    UK owner, had one of these and it has a very nice interior, steering felt sharp and the ride was indeed comfortable but if you push it, and I mean at all, like setting off from junction or overtaking the engine screams at you and forget living anywhere with hills because that's what you will hear all day. If you live on the geographical equivalent of a pool table where the speed limit is 40mph, it will suit you just fine...

    Interesting that he commented on braking. We've driven Toyota/Lexus hybrids for over 15 years and find the braking system amazing. It uses regenerative braking unless you demand heavy braking and also transfers from regenerative to disk braking as you glide to a stop. The transfer is almost imperceptible, which we find impressive.

    My parents have a 2011 Prius that I've driven a few times, and I recently test drove a 2012 CT 200h, and to me it felt way better than a Prius, even though they're essentially the same type of car. Lots of similarities, but way different. I've also driven a 2014 LS 460 and I gotta say, besides the obviously big difference in ride smoothness, the CT 200h is extremely similar to even the high end Lexus models. And I love that. So I think I'm gonna get one.

I've also got the Yaris Hybrid which is fantastic, had Toyota for 16 years, all faultless & IF there is any problem you can rely on Lexus/Toyota to put it right ( unlike other manufacturers ), I think I can comment like this working on cars for the last 30 years, 90% of cars are terrible now, European & mainly German cars are doggy do, terrible unreliable high maintenance expensive cars to run. 3:16 that's a quality door sound. Also I hear everybody talk about the CVT drone when you accelerate, is it really that bad? I have a diesel Audi and when I accelerate hard it sounds like a tractor so is that any better? Anyway great review thumbs up from me.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah, those CT 200s do have good door seals, Adam Perkins. While many diesels do sound like tractors under load, the drone from a CVT is different because it never shifts gears. Typically, it sounds like you're running the 4-cylinder engine too hard at a steady 4,000 rpm without ever shifting. Thankfully, many manufacturers are programming artificial shift points in their CVTs to appease those of us who don't care for it. We appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!

    I was really considering going for this, but i bought an Audi A6 instead 2.0 tdi. Out of town I get 5.1 to 6.3 fuel consumption, a little higher if I really push it or high speed highway which will go to about 7.5. My average for 10k km is 8.6 given that in a very crowded city I get from 9 to 14 L/100km, which can be a little on the high side for some people. I am a big fan of the lexus CT, but having so little power was something i really had to consider. 170 hp on a 1.7 ton car is not fast, but it's decent over the CT which is lacking in the performance department. The Is with the 2.5 hybrid is much nicer to drive, but a lot more expensive on the second hand market. I like how they put more power with the new Prius and I expect Lexus to come with higher power as well and even better design, cause the quality it's surely there. In some regards, the interior is better quality than the A6 of 2005-2011 generation, not with the same generation, but pretty damn close. I like it how it also drives very similar to an Audi in terms of overall feeling, like a smaller/low power version of an Audi. Overall nice car for mostly city driving and very reliable in doing so.

    I notice you had a baby car seat in the back , but didn't mention it. We are currently in the market for a hatchback commuter car , that can safely and easily transport a young child. We test drove the ct200h today and for the most part were happy with it. Although , in Sport mode , I expected more power than it gave us. What are your thoughts about this car being a daily driver for a Mom and her baby?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi, Travels & Chases. Yes, Chris' (our presenter) kids are still in car/booster seats so you'll see them in the videos from time to time. That front facing seat worked fine in the back of the CT 200h. We wouldn't call it spacious, since the seat did have to be moved slightly closer than an average-sized front passenger might like, but it wasn't terrible. Depending upon the size of your car seat, the contour of the rear seats might require a little adjustment during installation and Chris did have to remove the headrest, too, but it wasn't out of the ordinary what for what we've done with other test vehicles. So with all that being said, the car worked fine with the car seats, but if you're looking for something with more power, this is still a traditional hybrid powertrain that focuses on fuel efficiency over all else. The CT 200h handles decently, but the Sport button primarily keeps the car from going into electric mode only. Overall, it would be a fine car for Mom and her baby, so long as she doesn't like to engage in stoplight to stoplight drag races. We appreciate your comments and we hope we were able to help. Thanks for watching!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 8 lety

      +Neal Jalal As far as we are aware, the CT200h is a reliable vehicle, Neal Jalal. Its powertrain is based on the Prius, vehicles that have seen very high mileages over the years with minimal issues. You will probably have to contend with some minor wear and tear on interior trim pieces, eventually, but overall the car should be fairly durable. Looks like a nice car. Appears to me to be a repackaged Prius where the focus on economy has been shifted to luxury and sporty feel for a chunk more money. I just bought a used Prius, and have a 98 ES300. The Prius is not a Lexus but it doubles the mpg. If One were to compare the tire width of a Prius to the CT 200H, there is a huge difference.

    I've commented on this video before saying that I want this car, and I just got it almost a month ago. I got the 2014 ct200h fsport, and I love it, but there are some downsides to it. The one thing I don't like the most is how loud it is when going uphill. It's really loud and kind of awkward when someone's sitting in your car and the only sound is your car trying to chug up the hill. I also do not like the ports for the USB and cigarette plug. The little door on it is awkward especially if you want to use the cigarette plug because it has to stay open. I personally don't like it because it makes the console look messy and unorganized. There's also only one cigarette plug, which sucks because I wanted to install a dash cam but having the port door open all the time will bug me. I do love driving this car, though. It's so beautiful inside and out (especially with the fsport grille)
