  • Back towards the end of 2017, Nick and I went out to Milpitas, CA to watch the roll out of the new IPL carts as part of the new Milpitas Sanitation contract, which Republic Services has held since way back since the BFI days (long before I was born). I was sad to see years of historical carts be removed and replaced with new carts, but it was only a matter of time as Republic Services did want to roll out the city at some point soon.

I used to be a garbage man in Milpitas. I used to drive a manual side loader and a front loader. I worked for BFI/Allied for 16 years! 1986-2002

Last time I was up in Milpitas, there was actually still some older carts, set out with the new carts at curbside, so I assume that those residents had those stored away as extra carts, ready to be used. That, or they just didn't do a very good job with pulling them out.

Residents most likely didn’t leave them out. The roll back crews were pretty good and cool from what I saw when I came to picking up old carts. Just ask Nick. M

    Why the splits

When this company took over, they decided it was better to have spilt recycling. Rather than send nearly half a dozen trucks to collect food waste, trash, containers, paper and yard waste, they decided to only send three and have the spilt carts. As for how well that work, I wouldn’t know.

Rip so many awesome cans :( I wonder how many compost buckets are gonna end up in the compost truck. Do you know if any of the carts will be reused

As far as I know Republic Services recycled all of the carts collected in the roll back.

  • @garbagetrucksoftheeastcoast

    Do they have recycle carts?

Yes they do. In layman’s terms, we failed to locate the recycling rollout crew.
