I'm a day hiker. WV tourism department came out with a "WV Waterfall Trail" System last year that encouraged people to get outside and see things that they might have otherwise never seen. When you check in at three waterfalls you get a sticker, 10 you get a water bottle, 20 you get a T-shirt! It's the most expensive t shirt I own. 😂
It took me many weekends to get to them all because i typically explored the surrounding areas. Many of them are located in state parks, or state Forest. I don't know how long that program is going to continue as it was an experiment at the time. It received overwhelming success and i hope that they keep it up. It was very fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Something different to consider!

I was a backpacker in the 60s and early seventies, My Wife, Job, and family occupied me till 7 years ago. Now at 73, I'm an avid day hiker in Harriman State Park and surrounding areas. You have taught me a lot. Life has changed from Dunim boots, Kelty packs, and Sierra cups. I never filtered water, wore cotton, and carried 70 pounds for a 10-day hike. I am very fortunate that I found you. Thanks for all the tips and trips. (This past summer, ecause of you, I took a two day trip up to Greylock mt. It was a lovely two days of hiking.) Good luck with whatever you do. My G-d bless you with abundance. Yaakov

Yaakov: I’m also an older hiker (older than you actually). I remember the 60s and 70s with some fondness. What is truly amazing is when I hike with my grandkids on a trail that I hiked as a teen and in my 20s, including in one instance staying at the same shelter. I still have much of my old equipment, including my Kelty pack and my Sierra cup. Starting the AT in March. Perhaps we will cross paths on a trail some day.

I still love using my Sierra cups! Although I don't backpack with one anymore (but I did carry a Titanium Sierra cup last summer). I bought a Kelty external frame pack four years ago....but I also don't use it for backpacking these days. Thank goodness for modern, lightweight gear! My pack nowadays weighs less than 20 pounds, is easy to carry, and I actually enjoy the hiking part of backpacking now! 😂

By happenstance CZcams reminded me of your 2021 video of your entire through hike and I watch the first hour of it and realized why you were so appreciated in the Hikeing community and particularly in the CZcams post in community. Your videos are excellent. Your editing is superb the matter what you speak the matter in which you have yourself, you are a pro and quite understandably that you set the bar so high for other AT Thru Hikers to post vlogs. ❤😊

Hey Taylor, got a question and not sure there is an answer lol. After completing a thru hike like the AT, to me, it seems many kind of keep chasing that feeling again from that epic thru hike. Many do other thru hikes and such. How difficult has that been, having already done your first epic thru hike? Do you find yourself sort of chasing the blazes trying to get that feeling back? And then getting disappointed when you go out there, hike your ass off, but dont get the reward of that feeling again? Seems a memory like that first thru hike is chased a lot from former thru hikers. Your opinion?

It seems you have a lot of street smarts so that's in your favor. For 24 years I have hiked and literally lived less than 10 minutes from 3 different access points to the AT and within 25 minutes to 3 or 4 more. I never said it's not worth doing, and it makes me sad that you don't have a hiking partner. If you are near to this location WVA, MD, PA check out Harpers Ferry and Sheperdstown, WVA , the outdoor shops and river rafting and I'm pretty sure you'll meet some nice people to hike with year round.
