This was actually performed live and streamed to the Tokyo Jazz Festival, it was initially released with different video footage being much more close up and focused purely on Dimash's face. I watched the original feed. Later on the video was changed to be a combination of the two cameras but with the original audio.
So everyone is sort of right, the audio is what was performed live, but the video is an edited version.

@@DrDanRobinson the video was edited, the audio was not, it was Dimash singing live to a backing track of the music.
You may find it interesting to read the interview given by composer Nathan Wang, he has worked with renowned artists across the world and worked with Dimash on the OST for the latest Jackie Chan movie, he said that even without any editing, production or auto tune Dimash's natural voice is close to perfect. That he knows instinctively how a song should be performed and he will add or subtract elements from the song as he sees fit.

Debbie is absolutely right, as always 😊. I watched all of this festival and the released footage on this day was different. As I remember the performance needed to be live, but because of the pandemic, they could not invite them anymore. There are 2 other songs from Dimash on the jazz festival a year before. Samaltau and SOS, he casually sits on a chair, while performing. Both are one of my favorite ❤.

If memory serves, as this had to be recorded in studio because of the pandemic, for the Tokyo Jazz Fesival, two people from the Festval were sent to this studio in China (where Dimash was when the pandemic started and he couldn't leave) to make the recording according to the rules. It, therefore had to be done live in one take. Having multiple cameras is quite obvious. I hope others, more intimately aware of the story behind it, will comment and verify anything of error I may have stated.
Thank you Dr. Dan; it has been a pleasure. 😊❤

Dimash's vocal technique is so perfect that I understand when there is doubt! However, this does not mean that Dimash does not sing when necessary, all singers do! But in this video he is singing live, despite being in the studio due to the pandemic. There was editing in the video recording, not the audio. If you look carefully you will see that the posture and imposition of the body and voice is not common when singing with recording. Thanks for the reaction!

This is one of my favorites. I agree that there are aspects to it that make you wonder if the video is of the actual live performance, but it is so compelling and he is so totally invested in the performance both from the visual and vocal perspective, that I find myself concluding that it is what it is not a lip-sync but an actual performance. Perhaps there are certain camera angles that were recorded separately, but the bulk of it looks genuine and this performance is astonishingly good. I have tears in my eyes even now despite hearing it dozens of times. It is just that good. I should add: Thank you for commenting on this song. This was a very enjoyable reaction and vocal analysis. "Ikanaide" is one if not the favorite Dimash performance, and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" does. I believe this actually was a live performance, in that Dimash sang "Ikanaide" live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival Live stream in January 2021 as it was being recorded. Someone else pointed out that this was performed from Dimash’s studio in Beijing, where he was going through a month of quarantine before taking part in the “Shine Super Brothers” TV show.
Another very enjoyable reaction. This has become one of my favorite Dimash performances, and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. I believe this actually was a live performance, in that Dimash sang "Ikanaide" live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival Live stream in January 2021 as it was being recorded. As someone else pointed out, he performed Ikanaide from his studio in Beijing, where he was going through a month of quarantine before participating in the “Shine Super Brothers” TV show.
According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash's pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is "expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese" and that he does not only perfectly pronounce Japanese but "expresses Japanese…with Japanese emotion." Goro Matsui, who wrote the lyrics to "Ikanaide," posted on his Twitter account that he had never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way.
Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series "Farewell, Li Xianglan," filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer during World War II who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends, she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched.
She resettled in Japan, where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she moved her acting career to Hollywood and Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years.
In 1990, "Ikanaide" was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title "Late Autumn." In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn," with lyrics written by Daryl Yao.
Dimash chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics for his performance at the 2017 "I Am A Singer" competition but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong." This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong.

I miss those days back in 2019 (right before the pandemic got going) when there were quite a few Dear fan-cams on YT so we could watch Dimash singing at various concerts. The reason those fan-cams were so important was that they showed people like me that Dimash CAN and DOES sing live, even some of his more difficult songs. You could tell because in many fan cams, Dimash's phrasing, or the notes he sang, would be somewhat different from the "official" recording. (And maybe in some fan cam clips, he would interrupt a song with another sound or exclamation on the spur of the moment.) So, while we know that D does lipsync performances for various reasons, we also know that he is able to sing live, he does sing live, and he has a phenomenal voice.

👉As a professional, like the other vocal coaches, you should be able to do a spontaneous vocal analysis without hearing the song first. This is also much more interesting for us Dears, as Dimash always surprises.
By the way, the video is a 100% live recording checked by experts from the Japanese organizer. Otherwise it would not have been approved.
Of course, Dimash also has to sing lipsync. But this is rare because it goes against his attitude that his viewers deserve honest work from him. But since you always have doubts about Dimash's live performances, you should watch recordings of his concerts in Prague and Budapest. I was there and every note is live!!

This version "Ikanaide" (行かないで) ) is the original, from 1989, composed by Koji Tamaki (famous Japanese singer, born in 1958) with lyrics by Goro Matsui. The version "Autumn Strong" (Late Autumn), sung in Chinese, uses the same song, but has another lyrics (Yaqui Cheung, from 1993) and another theme: It talks about the Japanese actress Yoshiko Yamagushi, very dear to the Chinese, who was deported when they discovered her Japanese origin (his real name was Li Xiang Lan and we're talking about World War II, where Japan was China's enemy) and never returned to China. In the original version, the lyrics are more intimate, sentimental and more recognized worldwide. It means: "Please don't go!". Another reactor (several years back) mentioned that certain camera shots would have caught glimpses of the other camera/cameraman if done in one take... but I'm not convinced either way. If the audio was NOT performed in one take, it is some amazing editing. The visual camera work and editing it just amazing. While this is one of my favorite songs (despite it's repetitive "ikanaide") it has to be my all time favorite studio video. This performance is the most perfect musical feat I have seen on YT. I really enjoyed your analysis: you know about voice quality but you also have a sense of humor. After what you said, I tried to use that breathy quality voice to sing (but of course, it's so difficult to maintain the tone, it's all about air management technique). In some songs I came to think that this guy has more than three lungs! I've rarely heard him sing in a studio, but the sound quality is so good, I loved it, you can even hear when he breathes. It was a pleasure to listen to him with you, you help us perceive many nuances and techniques, greetings from Argentina!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the analysis and found it both informative and entertaining. Breath management is indeed key to maintaining that breathy quality, and it can be quite challenging. It's always fascinating to hear such control and nuance in a singer's performance.

Dimash sings this in Chinese when singing in China (Autumn strong) and now singing it in Japanese to the Japanese for His entry into their Jazz festival. (Ikanaide) Amazing. (recorded in His pristine studio)

I believe that some other reactors who are well versed in audio engineering have pointed out that this is a pre-recorded session. That being said, Dimash is such a great performer that it matters not that this isn't purely live. Most viewers and listeners would not notice and couldn't care less. His vocals are stunning, and his physical performance is perfect.

Unlike your misguided assumption, my eyes are wide open, and I couldn't care less how this performance was created---which makes your response completely inappropriate and irrelevant. I simply responded to an inquiry of the reactor with information I have heard from reactors who know more than you or I do about what goes on in recording studios. I indicated it was their opinion, not mine. And since I have seen every single youtube reaction to this performance since the day it was released, I thought the information was pertinent to his inquiry. Apology?

👉 Dimash sang Ikanaide (live and for the first time in Japanese) on the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2021(in his studio). Because of the pandemic, the annual Tokyo Jazz Festival took place online again. Filmmakers verify that the videos have not been edited and manipulated, so the singer sings live.
In 2020 Dimash also participated in the famous annual Tokyo Online Festival with 2 songs:
    * S.O.S. - czcams.com/video/WdKYDoqKLP8/video.html
    * Samaltau - czcams.com/video/cEyLyKW-gWY/video.html
The original song Ikanaide was composed in 1989 by Koji Tamaki (*1958) singer and songwriter, the lyrics come from one of his lyricists Goro Matsui.
In the same year, the song was used as the theme song for a Chinese-Japanese television series Farewell, Lixianglan, about the Japanese woman Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920 - † 2014) a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. The song is a metaphor as the lyrics speak of how a person should hide what they are feeling.
Koji Tamaki sent a wonderful message to Dimash, thanking him, and praising him for singing his song in Japanese.
Vbloggers, they reacted to the original by Koji Tamaki, they are mesmerized and can't stop listening to Koji Tamaki. He wrote many wonderful melodies - you should check it out:
    Koji Tamaki 2021, Ikanaide - czcams.com/video/OpgnM2MccCQ/video.html
Dimash's Japan Fan Club asked the famous Japanese author of lyrics of 'Ikanaide' Goro Matsui about his emotions at Dimash performance. It's one of his favorite songs:
"… I heard Dimash singing "Ikanaide" by accident. The first thing that impressed me was his crystal clear tone and expressive voice. I heard other Asian artists perform the song many times, but despite their magnificent vocal skills, none seemed to capture the true meaning of the original lyrics. In the chorus of the song, the line "Ah, Ikanaide" is repeated several times. And although these are the same words, each line has a different meaning. And it seems to me that Dimash felt it. "
In 1993, Jacky Cheung (*1961, singer and actor in Hongkong) adapted the song into Chinese Mandarin, calling it Late Autumn: czcams.com/video/dtM2EsgHD3M/video.html
The Chinese (Autuumn Strong) and Japanese (Ikanaide/ Please, Don’t Go) versions have completely different lyrics and meanings… and of course Dimash sings both very differently:
    - The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for the passage of time, a farewell and change...sad but inevitable and irrevocable
    - The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss of a loved one, is full of pain, begs, suffers... heartbreaking.
I'm totally mesmerized by how sensitively Dimash differentiates and conveys to the listener the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version. Even his whispers and his breath are music... it breaks my heart and the tears flow... and at the end everyone suddenly holds their breath, we hear Dimash breathing, then a deep and comforting hum.
I've never heard anything like that from other singers in my entire life. Only Dimash can do that. This is true mastery.
    * The most famous interpretation In China (first performance at the Singer 2017) was that of Dimash Qudaibergen and it was his first time to sing in Chinese mandarin: Autuumn Strong - czcams.com/video/Kmi2cVijdMo/video.html
This song brought Dimash the 'Best Foreign Singer' award at the Golden Melody Award 2017 (equivalent to the Grammy) in Hong Kong.
    * Great performance (Chinese version) of Dimash from Kiev 11.03.2020, the last concert before Corona paralyzed everything: Autumn Strong - czcams.com/video/437IEsDIZfE/video.html
    * Other version by Dimash: In Moscow on March, 2019 - Autumn Strong - czcams.com/video/-ewR8Boc21I/video.html
