Oh, Ruby, I remember my last day at University and mine was many years ago. I remember feeling a bit lost. I expect similar to how you feel now. I hate saying, "Things will work out." but, you are a very bright young woman and very driven and something interesting and wonderful is in store for you, I'm pretty sure. :)
When I graduated I was not sure what I was going to do. I assumed I was going to grad school, but the money wasn't there. My parents had recently divorced and, well....
I was engaged to the man I am still married to but I wanted to continue my education.
My last exam as an undergrad was in *Psycho-Biology, the Psychology of Perception* (how the senses work and how they tie in with psychology.) It was one of my most difficult classes, but one I enjoyed the most. The prof was a teacher's assistant from University of Chicago but he was one of the best teachers I had. I remember walking out of the science building after my last exam and screaming with joy because I was "Done!" But, quickly was a bit anxious as I wasn't sure what was in store for me next. I'd been in school since I was four, it felt very strange to not have a new semester to look forward to immediately.
I had plans to either go to graduate school to become a clinical psychologist or go to medical school to become a physician. Neither actually happened. My career and my interests curved slightly. I actually didn't go to graduate studies until years later, when I already had 2 children with my husband and was studying to become a Board Certified Lactation Consultant. This is a career choice that didn't even exist when I graduated Uni! But, I love my career and I love what I do. It was worth the wait and worth having half my family before I finished my studies. (Although I do feel we are never finished with our studies. Study should be part of our entire lives from my POV.) My job works with having a family and I'm doing work that I am passionate about, and which blends science and health care with caring for one's patients emotionally as well.
    Things work out.
I am looking forward to a new book from you! Congratulations on your graduation! Keep up the good work in whatever direction and path your life takes you.

@@twaybabousboula8690 Try to see how many years you will need to study to be able to use a Psychology degree. I found my Psychology degree needed at least 2 to 4 more years of Post Graduate work to be useful for a career. When I found Lactation Consulting, my degree was useful in applying for an IBCLC program.
Post Graduate work is essential to becoming a therapist or clinical psychologist, at least here in the USA. It was impossible for me to get grants after I graduated and there was no money from my parents. I carried on, got married, had a few children and eventually found my degree could be used to help me become an IBCLC.
      Good luck to you!

this was so nice to read! I am now in my last semester of uni too, I'm so happy to leave though as my lecturers and supervisors at this uni are horrible people and don't give a crap about the students. They are so rude and unhelpful. I wanted to apply for a research masters but needed a reference from my supervisor, which she said she won't give me a proper one, just one stating the dates, I asked why, because I missed some supervisions (despite at the time explaining it was due to my mental health condition, I have ocd and anxiety) to which she replied it was my own fault and own choice. They have no respect at all for mental health issues. They don't care if you are struggling, never asked if I was okay if I was absent for a while just sent nasty emails saying it was my own fault if I failed because I didn't want to put the work in. completely disregarding my mental health struggles.
I asked her what she was going to put in the reference, If it was going to be really bad, to which she replied ''you can't tell me what to write sorry'. Then I said I thought you could include something good maybe, such as the fact I attended all of my lecturers, to which she said 'I will write the truth'. Nasty people, awful university, its no wonder its at the bottom of the league tables in every aspect. I have never been made feel so bad about myself and inadequate. I can't wait to get out of here.

Stay put! It never has to end! You can most certainly build a fulfilling life for yourself in academia! I am 55 years old and still at university. Of course, I teach there now, but I am also finishing up a Ph.D. One of my favorite mentors has three doctoral degrees, and I also plan to earn three. Plus, you have a well-established "side hustle" as an academic influencer through your CZcams channel and stationery shop. Transitions between degrees and teaching assignments can be strange, but the cadence of the academic space and the academic year remains.

I agree being in my Senior year here at college in the states it's such an odd feeling to finally be wrapping things up and I took a semi-gap semester because I was only taking one class. I am slightly feeling freaked out like I have to know my next move right away. Even though I know that's irrational. I will most likely be taking a break from being a student for a while before I jump back into it if I ever decide that I want to study more. It's definitely an odd sensation when reality sets in that your leaving a place you've been at for so long!

It was a magical moment because now I get paid for working rather than getting no pay to do the same thing at uni, can afford to treat myself, live by myself, travel, study at my own time and get better at what I do but also practice hobbies. What I recommend is that you don't see this as the "end". Because it's not. Your life will look however you want it to look Ruby, don't feel like you're losing anything by graduating. Interesting point on always being in the academic setting - I recently went into the world of work for a year long placement as an Engineer (After 3rd year of uni) and I won't lie I was bricking it for whether I'd fit in, with all the what ifs flying around. What if I wasn't good enough, what if I would make mistakes - major imposter syndrome - all these things which in the academic world are classed as shortcomings and failures, yet in reality I have loved it for the last 8 months - you realise that you can relax on weekends but likewise the structure of Monday-Friday feels like that of secondary school. In at one time and out the same every day. It's a great opportunity if anyone has the chance to do a placeemnt and find if what you've been doing for the last however many years is the field for you. I personally have loved it and the people I've met - altho I do miss the longer holidays! 25 days choice a year really isnt enough!

I graduated high school last year and I felt quite lost as well, so I can kind of relate to you. I took the summer trying to figure out what I wanna do with my life. Everyone wanted me to go to university, cause I was pretty good at school, especially maths and electronics. But I hated studying and going to school in general so I figured It’d be better to get a job instead. I finally started as an electric lineman apprentice in October and I love it. I know my father is pretty disappointed in me, but I also know I wouldn’t be nearly as happy at any university. So just do what makes you happiest, regardless what other people say and don’t worry, no matter how lost you’re feeling right now, I’m sure you will find the right thing for you.đŸ„°

I haven’t watched your videos in a while and it’s crazy how much time has passed!
I finished Highschool last year and I’m taking a gap year now. My last days of school were almost one year ago which is crazy!!! It felt similar as you’re describing and it actually still does. I‘m going to start Uni in September and I’m really excited but also nervous about it. I want to go into environmental engineering, but I’m quite sure that it’s not gonna be easy haha. Thanks for your videos though. You‘ve always helped me to be more productive and to look forward to university :)

This feels so weird. The feeling you explain were my feelings before I started. I knew things in my life would change as in not seeing my sisters as often and living in another environment then I was used to. Knowing I would move away, that's a weird feeling. At the same time, you make friends pretty easily and now I can't think of a life where I don't go to uni... Well actually I can, but for now it's really just a dream and uni is a step closer for it to become a reality.
Also, I cannot stop to be so impressed by how much you really inspire me to do better and not procrastinate too much. It really is a problem for me but I've done better at uni than I have... with any work really. You really are my study role model.

It was nice to see your campus again, though I wish you had shown it more over the past 4 years. I will miss university vlogs. When I graduated from college I was partially sad to leave it behind, apprehensive of the future, ready to be back in my own room for privacy and extremely glad I already had a job lined up, which started 3 days later. My year still, after all this time, revolves around the school year; summer is vacation time, fall is starting new projects, studies and reading, holidays stay the same, and so it goes round! The hardest thing was realizing that you are in a sort of limbo state when thrust out into the world. I wasn't seriously dating anyone at the time, so not married, no kids, lived at home for a bit before moving out and then eventually fell in love, marrying, owning our own home. I felt like I didn't belong anywhere except at work, where I did make a lot of friends as many were close to my age or a few years older. Co-workers became best friends and we did a lot together beyond the workplace. My college days will always be precious to me, but moving forward and embracing adulting was so much fun too! One of my favourite things was being able to read whatever I wanted without any deadlines, as I also majored in English Lit. So liberating!

For me personally, school has always been my worst nightmare. I was „the stupid kid“ since kindergarten. I’m over with school in summer. I love learning and reading but school itself is just pure anxiety and hatred. So I basically can’t wait until I’m over with all of it.

The end of one's degree is certainly a momentous time. Familiar routines persist amid a growing sensation that various things are happening for the last time; the realisation dawns that you will soon no longer have the routines to do, and no longer see all the faces of those you have known for three or four years. It is important to cherish each moment, because such moments will never come again. Even if you remain for postgraduate studies, the routines and places and people will not be the same; if you stay for long enough, you may even be haunted by the sight of familiar places or the undertaking of familiar activities without the familiar people to share in it with you. I remember that on my very last day of university, which was a month into having started a new job elsewhere in the country, I drove away from campus having made my final submission, taking the briefest of glimpses through the rear window at the place before it disappeared from sight. Hardly anybody was left there that I had spent most of my time with, so I left with a glad and grateful heart, determined to fully embrace the career upon which I had just embarked.
That isn't intended to dissuade anyone from pursuing further studies, I hasten to add - for, as much as it can be argued that staying in the same place until completing a PhD isn't good for one, it can also be noted that if a beneficial and self-enriching thing feels like the right thing to do, one should do it unless or until it is finished, or something else comes up. We each live our own life, after all.
Since leaving university myself (four years in total, pursuing MA after BA), I have worked a number of jobs, all of them requiring academic duties, thus all have had patterns of work aligned to school and university terms. That is one way to preserve the rhythm of the academic year in your life without remaining in academia yourself; if that matters to you, it would be worth looking into career options accordingly. Equally, you may surprise yourself by enjoying the novelty of taking time off at different times of year - for one thing, travel and holidaymaking can be less expensive when school terms are on, and any opportunity to recharge in peace whilst exploring somewhere new to yourself is well worth taking.
One door closes, yet others may open. However comfortable the cradle, we cannot remain in it as we grow up. Whether you stay in touch with your friends or drift apart into new friendships beyond university (just as you might already have done when leaving school for university), they will always be a part of you, having been with you in these formative times.

Dear Ruby , this Video made me kind of emotional. The whole „The Last Time-„ thing really get®s to me. Im from Germany and I had my last school day last week. Im only gonna go back to take my finals. It was 13 years of school and nine years at my current school and it was the last time I really went there. It makes me kind of sad but also excited for what is coming. Im probably gonna start studying at my dream University in October and im nervous of that but also so excited to start this new academic path of mine.

I remember my last day at university
although it wasn’t actually my last! It was just forced. I am from Chile and I was supposed to finish around December 2019, but the social protests that took place in October lasted until December and so I couldn’t have my “last day”. My only hope was graduation (to be held in 2020), but then then the pandemic happened and that also wasn’t possible. I ended up having a very unorganized online graduation. I was (and still am) sad about that, as I am the first person in my family to graduate from university. I hope to study a master’s degree so I can graduate (even if it sounds stupid). This was a lovely video Ruby, congratulations on fulfilling 4 years at university! 💗

HI Ruby, I almost never comment on your videos but this time I had to..somehow it just made me really emotional, maybe because it is my last year as an undergraduate as well or maybe because I've been able to watch your video in a long time. But today I went to therapy for the first time and I can see myself going there and becoming better person and making my life more meaningful and not feeling guilty after watching your videos, because I really like them and I like the peacefulness in your life. But it's important to enjoy the end of something just as much as we might mourn it a little because after that we have a new beautiful beginning of something else and it's definitely something to celebrate just as much as we find the beauty in the closing a chapter in our lives.

I was absolutely terrified to leave school and university, I didn’t know what would happen and I still don’t really as I don’t have a job. But as long as you know what your plan is, just treat it as another big adventure and make the most out of what comes your way. There will be hiccups or times you think “What on Earth am I doing?” But taking a step back and time to relax to get your head back in the game, you’ll be good to go. And remember, you will never stop learning. You can do this.

Ah Ruby, I’ve been watching you for about 5 years and I’m finishing uni this year too. I did a 4yr undergrad and this year was my masters year which I did at the same university; that makes 5 years at my uni and I’ve loved it all! Friends, acquaintances, lecturers, the campus, the city
it’s all been great! I agree with what you said about being ready to finish but having mixed emotions. 5 years of my life I’ve given my all to my studies, especially these last 2 years have been intense with it being my final year and my MA, so I really do feel like I’ve given all that I ever had to give to my studies, and when asked if I wanted to do a second masters or PhD, I said that it wasn’t for me. But
. If you said, let’s go back to 2017 and live the experience all over again, I would hop in that time machine and do it 100%.
Im so glad that you’re a CZcamsr I relate to so much! Please never change and always continue to be authentic with your followers
