  • The Most Important Artistic Coloring Trick That Exists. If you make lighting mistakes in your picture the entire picture will look weird. Even small lighting mistakes will confuse your mind. If you forget which direction your highlights should go or even question it this lighting trick will work everytime.

    Your a brilliant teacher. I have learned so much from your tutorials. I started from brain dead and can now color pretty pages so thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a cancer survivor and chronic pain sufferer and also a recovering addict to pain killers. I’m a year clean and coloring was part of saving me.

    Lori, as an educator in different classroom venues for over 20 years this lesson to me is the most profound. Never, never apologize for repeating yourself! I began each class from the military setting to the college setting by writing one quote on the board....THE MOTHER OF ALL EDUCATION IS REPETITION !!! Repetition is necessary when learning any new concept. That's how our brain works. We are literally laying down tracks for our memory to follow like an old LP record. The deeper the track, the deeper the memory. Repetition is vital in this aspect! Like others, I needed to re-hear this concept again. I still struggle with lighting. The light at times in my picture doesn't look like it's coming from one source, in one direction. I feel I often have strobe light or a big crystal ball reflecting the light all over the place. In the end -- to use your favorite word -- my picture comes out looking "Wonky." Thanks for the re-edification!

    This was brilliant. I've never taken an art class. Most of the time I color everything flat because I don't know what I'm doing. I would love for you to copy a section of a coloring page and color one the wrong way and one the right way so we could see the difference between right and wrong. Thanks for caring about us.

    Loved this, the translucent shadow concept was new to me. Thanks. Enjoy your videos. 69 years old, never too old to learn. Thinking of taking a college art class but there is so much to learn from home with benefit of internet. Fun pursuing the art I excelled at in my teens.

    I just took up coloring and I am obsessed and retired so I have time to learn. You are just what I needed. I watched you lesson on coloring a tree. i looked at a tree I colored a week ago and it had all the right colors but no texture. I tried your lesson on a wooden step in another picture and it was so real. Please keep these lessons coming. I am trying to binge watch everything you've done. Love you're style...

    CreamintheCoffee just said everything perfectly what I wanted to say. I'm even a military brat and agree 100% AND I love lots of extra cream in my coffee!!!! lol Seriously, Lori, I just bought your PDF color blending system. I'm going to make sure my printer has new ink or just get a new printer as cheap as they are these days and start learning from you. I love your style. I'm hoping you will teach what contour is and things like that I hear you speak about. That's just how much of a beginner I am lol. Don't pull your hair out just yet. I'll make you laugh ;) I recently sent you an email asking you a question and you were very kind to answer quickly. Thank you for that. See ya on the flip side.

    Lori if you see this .. first thank you . I'm pretty new here ... What about mirrors in a room which you are featuring in a color book.. or a mirrored disco ball! My disco ball in the room I'm in right now has a bright segment just across from the ceiling fan light ... One little square is bright. Thank you so much. I found this video on your green raindrop leaf video .. you said here's some info for beginners. So I'm studying your videos, and thanks again. I hope your man is recovering well. Unless there is a reflection from another object bouncing up onto the cylinder. Looking at my travel mug that does have a vertical highlight only down to where it meets a horizontal highlight which is reflecting off a white object(tube of hand lotion) that is next to the coaster the mug is on. So yes a highlight going across can occur unless it’s the only object in the picture. There is the reflected light to consider. Also perhaps to explain the theory of the objects light line is to perhaps say an ode to is in a tub and you fill the tub with water up until the object is nearly immersed. That part that would remain above water is where a highlight would be. A ball, only a round shape, box, only the top, a glass, the rim, etc. however that isn’t the only highlights. Just as your foil example showed, there are several other highlights along the cylinder as well as the reflected highlight on the table. Perhaps those are the highlights people are asking about rather than the more obvious standard highlight.

    Lori, thanks for your teachings and the clarity of your explanations. My question is if the light source is closer to the horizon (say early evening light), does the light line move closer to the ground plane instead of being in the center of the object? I.e. would it (the light line) be closer to the edge if it is side-lit?

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 5 lety +1
