Hi Helene! There’s absolutely no problem with taking a step away from CZcams. As you’ve described before, this is a hobby for you and hobbies should be fun. If it was no longer fun and the pressure became too much, it was important that you step away for a while! I’m sure I can speak for many of us when I say that we understand. I am feeling strangely sad. 😢. Sitting on my shelves are heaps of lovely books that you’ve recommended over the years. Without you, I may never have stumbled upon them at all. Many have become my absolute favorite books and ones I’ll never part with. In addition, not one single time have I read a book that you recommended that I didn’t enjoy. You and I have such similar tastes in books so I knew I could trust your thoughts and that my money would be well spent. Selfishly, I hope you never leave fully and that you’ll come back from time to time to share with us what you feel like sharing. Thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful books these last few years. Be well, my friend!
So funny to watch this video now. I have experienced something similar to you with Instagram and a little bit with Booktube. I have been an avid reader for many years now but somehow this summer I felt a bit off with my reading. I decided to rearrange my bookshelves just to spice things up a little just to realize that I have got about 200 unread books in my house. I was shocked. Books that I don’t even know if I want to read anymore. Books I bought because they were so hyped and praised on social media, that I felt I didn’t want to miss out on them and bought them… I also realized that I don’t know how it feels like to browse books in libraries or bookshops anymore, to chose to read a book not because I have heard about it on social media, but simply because its title, blurb, or cover intrigued me and convinced me to buy it. Today, for me, buying or reading books is almost an obligation because I saw someone talking about it and now I feel like I have got to do the same thing… No longer. I have decided to unsubscribe to a lot of reading channels that I was no longer watching anyway, and substantially reduce my time on Instagram. Oh, yes, and stop buying books, of course. My goal is not to buy a single one next year to see how it goes. Just trying to claim my personal reading life back. Sorry for disturb you with all of this, but I thought the coincidence was kind of funny. All the luck to you and happy reading!

It's so good to see you again ❤️ It's so easy to get swept up in buying books and then not reading them, but still buying more. I desperately need to downgrade my collection as well, I just haven't had the guts to do it yet. You do what's best for You.
Great to see you, Helene!---Absolutely: "...reading for the sake of reading". The most important part is that you're enjoying your reading.---I'm also moving toward minimalism (watched your video during a break from housekeeping, rearranging and putting aside for donation) going through and donating books again and this time more so than before. I realized that when I give up a book unread I'm also giving up the experience I would have had but the reduction in stress as more space opens up is more important than the book and what goes with it. I live in walking distance of a public library so I don't need to be concerned about a shortage of books!

Hi Helene i see you from Portugal. I have subscribed your channel for 3 years now and i appreciate not only your book reviews but your approach to everyday life that i saw on your reading vlogs.
I also have a booktube channel - much smaller - and havr bren doing it for more than 2 years and i have reached the sane point as you. Reading fast to have content. Reading. Reading. Watching fellow booktubers and having to coment. And i have stepped away from that carroussel just a few weeks. I still post my weekly video, but i have no desire to do much more.
Take care of yourself. Not everyone has the guts to change when they have to. I will follow you on IG and GR. Have a nice Easter.

Really good to see you here and thank you Helene ! It is kind of you to make a video to explain. I had a major declutter recently, which involved paring down all my media and unwanted clothing ( donated ) and so I can understand the relief it brings - there is so much pressure to keep with others ( even Minimalism can be competitive! ). Like other commenters I already miss your distinctive approach to video making, have gained many new favourite reads from watching your channel - and Zeus , but wish you the very best in life . Will be here to watch if you ever decide to post! : )

I think there's a lot of pressure, I only watch the booktube videos and feel like I should be reading more, and have lists of books to read and books ready to read.
I completely get just wanting to read for you when you want and just feel it for you and not everyone else. It's strange reading is so personal and you can read a book and love it and not really have an answer as to why.
Stay happy and do whatever makes you happy!

It’s so nice seeing a video from you. I’m glad to follow you on Instagram and be friends on Goodreads. You and I hit a slump of us enjoying books around the same time, and like you I’ve stepped back some from reading everyday and thoughts on books I read. It’s been quite nice really giving myself a choice on what I do and don’t read. You’ve helped me with that decision and I thank you for that. I hope you and Zeus continue to be happy.

I love a good bookshelf clearout! So glad to hear that slowing down and taking time away is working for you. What you were saying was part of the reason I stepped away from CZcams last July, and to be honest I'm still really happy with the decision because you're right, the pressure to read is off and the joy of reading has returned! Will still follow along with you on Instagram though of course :)
Way to do what you need to do to preserve your reading joy
I think it's not a weird reading mood, but a normal one. Doing booktube we forget that reading is an interest and hobby, not a job, and just like every other interest and hobby, sometimes we want more and others less. I find, though I read every day, I rarely feel inclined to read all day. Currently trying to push through Wolves of Calla (770) this weekend by targeting 100p/day and it's a struggle as that's 5h/day for me and I usually read in 1-2h sessions max. I rarely push myself like this as it does take away from the joy. So not seeing myself hit the goal, but yeah. It's okay and that is the important thing to remember. That it's okay to take time off, or read less and not talk about every book in detail. Have a wonderful weekend and only joyful moments with books in the future.

Thank you for explaining why we have not heard from you. I totally understand stand where you are coming from. Sometimes book tubes will brag about how many books they have read in a month. Some claiming 30+ I often wonder how they can get all the books read and straight in there head. I also wonder if in there rush the my miss the subtleties that book might have. I hope you enjoy your reading more now. Please share with us from time to time. Glad to hear your doing well.
I get what you mean about not always having something to say about the books you've read. I feel the same. Sometimes, I just enjoyed or did not enjoy a book, but I don't have any specific reasons as to why or I just don't feel like talking in depth about every book I've read. One thing I don't do on my channel is stick to a regular schedule. I've even eliminated Friday Reads because I wasn't necessarily finishing a book by the time the next Friday rolled around. I switched to Reading Updates, and I film one after I've finished a couple of books and then just give my brief thoughts on them. It's less pressure not having a set schedule. I've enjoyed watching your channel. I hope your love of reading returns and maybe one day we will see you back here, even if it's just to pop in and say hello! Take care.

Good for you! Social Media has helped more people become readers but it also encourages unnatural large amounts of reading. Reading is meant to be an experience and remembered. Many booktubers struggle to remember details of a book they read in their monthly wrap ups! I’m not bashing it, I’m subscribed to many, it’s just a downside. Best wishes!!

I completely understand this! I’m a librarian so it comes with the territory that sometimes even I get sick of reading, the pressure to read, to review and recommend new reads. Lol. I also initially set up my bookstagram as a place to record what I am reading for fun but even there the pressure can sometimes slip in to read more and buy more (which as a fellow minimalist I try and refuse to do). We all need breaks!!!! Take your time and step away from the books. They will be there when your ready to come back to them on your terms, not anyone else’s. xx

These are the reasons why I stopped my book blog. I wanted to enjoy reading and not feel the pressure to read.

Glad to know you're ok. Been missing your videos, but I totally understand your reasons.
I was in a similar situation a few years back. Had 8 massive bookcases full of books and between organizing them and trying to keep up with my reading list became a huge drain. I switched to digital books so everything is on my kindle with the only physical books I own are my all-time favorites but that's more for decoration.

Aww I think you should absolutely do what's best for you - we'll still be here whenever you decide to post. I've often watched your reading vlogs and thought 'wow they're a lot of work!'so I can definitely see how easy it is to feel a little burned out :/ I think the key thing is to design content just for you rather than an audience as you'll always have an audience that will evolve with you.
