If you had said that she reads, studies, articulates, speaks eloquently, beautiful use of grammar and words that are so endearing to ears I would say definitely, but you said she looks like an English major. Would you have said that if she was of a different race, a different body size, etc? Quick tip all English Majors come in all different sizes not just the one you perceive them to be.

She seems like a swallower of all kinds. I've surely said no to too much, but I've read over 2000 books by the time I was 30. Getting overexcited can turn you yourself off from the matter, don't lose your sense of what truly delivers. That's only three pages per 500 for me, even after carefully choosing the right reads.
This is exactly the type of person I like to be friends with.

Me as an Indian English literate student, has covered entire syllabus which has been listed above
I'm an Architect, I never wanted to study literature, I love reading books and discussing them in a superficial level (because I don't know enough as a lit academic, of course) but sure as hell I enjoy listening people being so enthusiastic about it, the love you people show for words just like I do with architecture. We love nature and humanity and just, i'm so glad people love and work with art.

@@michellequiroga4008 Is hard, but is so worth it, normally is a 5 year carreer. Deppends a lot on your school program and your country, of course. Is a lot of theory but mostly is practice. Generally we learn about history, engineering, sociology , law, and art, the thecnicities of all of them, focusing in the architectural view. We have to be problem solvers and normally creative ones. If you find yourself wondering about constructions and how and why are made I think you would enjoy the career. Also you can apply to a loooot of jobs, from interior design to construction :)
I actually just transferred halfway through an architecture degree to English! They definitely share interests and thought processes

I graduated with an English Lit degree two years ago at age 51. I had no idea what to expect in my first year. I took a sci-fi class thinking the literature would reflect a Star Trek type narrative. I was so wrong lol same with Science, etc. I learned so much. You are absolutely right every professor is different.

I have done freelance editing as well and helped a good friend create her memoir. After a career in stock brokerage it feels good to do something I enjoy. Always thought I would do journalism but that field has changed so much.

My first choice as a computer scientist (best languages are computer languages in a strong sense) was grand studies of nutrition.
you don't understand how much i relate to you. i was an engineering student last year but since it was freshman year we mostly had science classes as an introduction to engineering. i failed miserably and felt like a waste of space in my classes and it affected me mentally and physically so much...but then the decision to switch to English Literature was the best decision I've ever taken. what i really want anyone to take away from this is that you're definitely not a failure, you just might be in the wrong place and time and you haven't found yourself yet. and it's also never late to follow what you're truly passionate about.

This was so comforting. I'm finishing my Honours degree in English (in New Zealand we snap the fourth year off the BA and bump it up to postgrad, a bridge between the BA and Masters - so that people can just do three years and get a job. It's more or less equivalent to the final year of the American BA) and I've been peeling away from my studies which has excited and distressed me. I used to dedicate my whole life to class and essays but now I find myself staring out the window or spending hours on facebook when I sit down to write. I've felt like WTF DO I DO NOW?? This is who I am. I feel like there's a life sitting *over there*, a garden of pleasure nourishing otherworldly flowers, ripe for me to stumble into by mistake. Interests change, I suppose. I've just never been a flip-flopper, I move slowly and when I commit I commit. I feel like I'm discovering myself and I have no idea what to expect, which makes it hard to make decisions about what jobs to apply for, if I even decide to start applying now. What's a baby gonna do in an office anyway? In the meantime, I'll spend my days volunteering at Vincent's Art Workshop with a woman whose mentorship might help me get my self-belief swole.
How inspiring:) everytime you fail, you should just switch to something dumber and more useless, where failing becomes less probable:)
@@crowekirstin1 it's been 3 years since I graduated with an eng lit and sociology double major and I still feel the same way. Not knowing who I really am bc I spent so long just following the whole system....I'm using this time to rediscover myself again. I loved english in high school but studying it in uni took my interest away and an after effect was me reading even less for pleasure after. I switched to more non fiction books post grad and slowly getting my groove back.

As someone who just graduated with an English (and Women and Gender Studies) degree this is just what I needed! You have no idea how much I miss this kind of conversation and love for books. I'm lucky enough that all my friends are equally as nerdy about our love for literature, but there's something about classes and passionate professors that I is hard to replicate. I've studied English lit in two continents and I'm also hearing some of the names for the first or the second time :D the syllabus is a bit peculiar. I would say that some of the works are not the best representatives of the authors or the eras.

wasn't expecting this video to make me cry, but here i am, crying in my kitchen over your summary of Black Daisies for the Bride...."poetry's often the last thing you remember" made me think of my grandpa. he just turned 90 in March and has been having trouble recognising some of his children/grandchildren, but can still recite all of his favourite poems.

I'm an English Major too! Concentration in Literary Studies with a Minor in History and am about to graduate in the spring. Some books I recommend: "The Cancer Journals" by Audre Lorde, "The Milagro Beanfield War" by John Nichols, "The Line of the Sun" by Judith Ortiz Cofer, "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor (short story), The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey.

My high school years in a nutshell. Nostalgia hit me really hard while watching this. I always loved writing essays on poetry, it seemd more fun to find all the different meanings and layers in them because they were shorter and the fact that you could discover so much in such a small and restrictive space just made it so much beautiful. Those were the years i learned how much I love reading about existential spleen, analysing an existential or erotic elegy or an ars poetica or just how insufferable and yet interesting I found dadaist poetry. The different types of eras in literature and how they changed over time was also something that i found intresting, and I really loved when we read novels where you could find multiple literary movements seamlessly combined. Ever since I got into university I hadn't been able too do that kind of stuff so watching your video hit home really hard and I loved every second of it.

Read faster. Speed reading only. You can read some 200 pages of Hemingway easily in ten minutes and answer questions about the plot, you'll even LUV many details. Basically just scan the page visually vertically while losing some gluers ofc, but necessarily with your inner voice off.

If you like themes of memory in literature, I highly recommend Patrick Modiano, especially Cafe of Lost Youth. Out of the Dark and Villa Triste are great as well
I'm currently in my final year of high school in Australia and I am studying English Literature as one of my subjects. I was actually super excited to study Heart of Darkness for our 'Post Colonial Literary Perspectives' outcome but instead our school changed the curriculum. Now we have to study a 900 page novel that has never been studied at our school before, in online learning, for the most challenging assessment of the year woooooo

As a fellow English Major (my first year was 1983-84) this was fascinating. Some of your authors were in our syllabus of course -we are all assigned the Norton Bookstop of English Lit- but you definitely got more poetry and more modern authors.
I have always adored literature and writing, and plan to study in an english major in college. This video was amazing, and very informing. I loved it, and have even more excitement for starting those classes in the future.

I love this video. I am doing my PhD in English Literature and some of these I haven't read. I will though, thanks to you. And Antique Greek and Latin Literature are so beautiful also (Catullus, one of my favorites). I must say: I like âHearth of Darknessâ. It is not the most beautifully written work and it shows some of the worst parts of Imperialism, but it also includes very shocking imagery that I find compelling. In any case, I really like how composed and, at the same time, passionate you are while talking about books.

Hey! To be honest, I didn't feel that this was a lengthy video at all. Im in the final year of english literature degree myself and this video was really interesting and fascinating. I didn't get bored at all like I usually do with lengthy videos. I can see that there is a huge difference in our syllabus(as I am studying in India) and therefore, this video really helped give an insight into a lot of works I haven't studied.

Thank you for making this a topic for this channel, I do think more people need to be aware of the experience of higher education without the usual "day in the life" self promotional videos. This is also very useful for those who have not sought higher education.

Well, we don't even know for the fact if shakespeare was one single author but yes I agree, it's very good literature. From poetry William Wordsworth is often underestimated yet very good. I can recommend.
