The thing that draws me to tensura is that in many anime, monsters are used as evil beings for the sake of being evil to humans, Tensura confronts this by showing the struggles, ambitions, emotions the monsters go through themselves, showing that they are quite similar to humans but with a different culture.
I've noticed that this is becoming a more and more popular topic these days. Shows like tensura, overlord and kumo desu, as well as many others, are focusing more on monsters and making them more sympathetic. It's a really interesting departure from classic fantasy.
It's weird going from watch goblin slayer killing goblins to loving goblin and root the Rimuru when he slaughtered over 20k of people.

Just a minor correction, not all skills are born from the soul even Unique skills can be etched onto the body. A good example of this would be with Shogos unique skill berserk, which was etched into his body and this is why Razen was able to use Berserk. Rimuru discussed this in one of the later volumes of the LN, skills can be acquired through hardwork and effort which will be etched into the body, but those skills are inferior to the ones etched into the soul
OHHHHHHHHH so that's why survival didnt work when his soul was damaged.

Also just to clarify for 9:26, most Other Worlders have not been reincarnated. They traveled to this new world in their own bodies. Rimuru reincarnated and was born in this new world. His soul traveled over by itself. That’s one of the reasons his soul is so strong.

As far as I know there are a few methods for monsters to evolve:
1. When given a name by someone;
2. By meeting certain conditions;
3. By having a link with someone who has evolved.
If I’m not mistaken, Ranga actually did all of these at different times. Of course, in the anime we never got to know what skills the other monsters acquired when they evolved.
the 3 is wrong,don't work for every evolution,only the demon lord one were the one under you are gifted
or if you become a demon lord, not many souls are required for that however you need to have a demon lord seed within you which only monsters can possess so unfortunately for humans, they are only left with a hero evolution and then a demi god evolution, that is as far as they go.

The skill system in this anime is really interesting. Skills combing with each other to form greater skills is a good concept, and skills can get very very op (see Ciel and Void god Azathoth.) All very cool, hope the anime continues to be this great, as I enjoyed the web novel and light novel very much, so here's to hoping the anime can match up.
Edit: Also there are like a hundred unique skills we know of compared to very few skills in the common category and the few dozen in the extra, which is ironic.
i guess the logic is that since multiple people can have the same common or extra ones at the same time, there isn't a need for so many distinc ones

As skills get stronger they get closer to the soul, for example weak unique skills are attached to the body, like Shogo’s unique skills were only part of his body, which is why Razen was able to obtain his despite destroying his soul, where stronger skills will be part of the outer parts of the soul, and ultimate skills are connected directly to what is basically the ego, which is why they in most cases can’t be taken directly.

Unrelated but this comment brought back a memory I have of when I was pursuing a novice career in makeup. The instructor who was very good at what he does gave a demonstration on a technique and told us that at some time one would have to "Sell his soul" to achieve certain opportunities, skills or social status in this world. I interrupted the demonstration and said "But your Soul isn't for sale" to which the whole class plus the instructor stopped to look at me. I can't remember the exact next words but I maintained that skills can be earned they don't have to involve selling or stealing souls to acquire them instead just earn it. Well nobody in my group was buying that and it was at this point I knew I was in the wrong environment but this rant applies to this comment 😮💨

It's so great when authors develop systems like these. It comes from a desire to give the consumer more substance. You can slowly
build on a system that exists in the real world and put your fantasy
twist on it, it makes every system like this so special even if they are
flawed. It's that specialness, attention to detail, and desire to keep the consumer immersed that make fantasy systems an art form.

Ultimate Skills and Unique Skills can be somewhat classified into two: the reincarnated and the evolutionary. reincarnated means that it has is previous user that died, and evolutionary one is the one that is entirely new in the system. Examples of reincarnated one are Wisdom King Raphael and the evolutionary one is the King of Gluttony Belzeebub.

Tensura definitely has my favorite power system, and I can’t wait for more videos about slime.
The power system is just meh. Since everybody is connected to Rimuru they eventually get more OP like no consequences or training required.

@kono Dio da!!!, you're clearly an anime-only, if you've read the light novel you'd know that even when they got their power-ups, they still need to train to improve their new abilities, they aren't automatically masters right after getting more power.
Think of it this way, imagine if someone gave you a gun, and you don't know how to use it, so you have to practice to use it properly to avoid making a lethal mistake. That's pretty much the way it works for Tensura, although the extra power and abilities makes them stronger, they still need to practice to get a better handle on it.

Clearly you can't tell if this guy is strong since he has many titles but when faced with rimurus grunt they all became invalid. No explanation on power scaling since whenever rimuru upgrades they all get bunch of powers. I appreciate the power system in "So I'm a Spider So What?" more than this. Also they don't need to train coz Ciel is the one who manages their growth after he bacame a true demon lord the story became hollow tbh.

There's also the fact that he failed to achieve Rafael like 1000 times before he finally got it. I wonder if that was just supposed to show how rare and hard the skill is to get or if it regarded his soul status in some way.
Spoilers warning! Actually as far as I know it wasnt supposed to evolve at all, great sage gained a very small amount of sentience and basically went rogue to fulfill their master's desires continuously trying to evolve eventually only managing it by sacrificing another skill same thing for gluttony raphael needed gluttony evolved for its plan to work so it evolved gluttony sacrificing another skill in the LN this was stated as being a rogue like way to evolve and Diablo questions if the one reviving his friends is actually rimuru but pays it no mind since a skill isn't supposed to have a small amount of sentience at all
In the LN, it's described as Nigh Infinity rather than a thousand.
It's probably a safeguard to prevent the evolution and creation of sentient skills, since apart from Raphael herself, sentient and semi-sentient skills tend to be malevolent or at least unhinged.
@@dani007a Sentient Skills are fucked up, they'll do everything for their master. That's why it's scary if Rimuru died and Beelzebuth started rampaging. Beelzebuth's Stomach or Imaginary Space is infinite, meaning it can swallow the whole world if not stopped.

I think its funny that you don't mention Manas, as they can evolve from an ultimate skill, and is basically just a sentient skill with emotions thats inside someone, and is typically more powerful than their ultimate counterpart
thats because manas arent skills at all. They are an ego that doesnt have soul (one example is chronoa wich was born from chloe negative emotions and not from an ultimate skill).
@@AKturtle I had actually forgotten that was how Chronoa had been born, I thought that manas came from one of Chloe’s time related skills, and that it just happened to take on her negative emotions. But the fact is that a Manas can still be born from a skill, so does that imply that some manas are skills but the majority arent? Since Ciel was born from wisdom king Raphael and still maintained much of the skills ability as an inherent ability she had once born

I don’t think you touched on this, but naming gives monsters access to skills possessed by the master. The type of name they get also affects their evolution. Ranga’s name was based on the family name tempest which evolved the dire wolves into tempest wolves. That’s why he evolved skills based on the storm dragon.
