The flamethrower guy is the writer of the game.. He has also directed a movie called The Wendigo.. He died in the game because of Chris.. During the scene, Chris comes in between him and Hannah.. So he stops the flames allowing Hannah to get the upper hand..

Explaining step by step: Beth died in the fall.
Hannah survived about 30 days. Then she eats Beth body and turn on a Wendigo.
The flamethrower guys just tried to help the sisters. He was a "Wendigo hunter".
In the final, Hannah(Wendigo) takes Josh, but don't kill him, it's looks like she knows Josh.
When Sam runs to the door to escape from the explosion and trigger the switch, it looks like the Wendigo tries to help her, if you go to the start of the game, Sam don't approve the prank, she is the only who don't like the prank they made with Hannah. So, Hannah saves Sam from the Wendigo jumping on her. What show us, even as a Wendigo, Hannah remember of each one.

Hannah survived the fall and broke her leg. She had to dig up Beth after she buried her because she was starving. She ate her sister, since that is cannibalism she became a Wendigo. The other Wendigo's are the miners from the 50's. They ate some of their fellow miners because they were stuck in a cave in. Only 12 survived out of 30 something miners. You get the Wendigo curse by committing cannibalism.

What happened is:
When Beth chased Hannah in the snow, they encountered a Wendigo. The stranger was here that night, with a flamethrower. He was hunting the Wendigo. Which explains why you can see flames coming out of the woods. But the Wendigo started chasing the two sisters, and they were cornered up the hill. All they could do is fall down. While they're holding on, the stranger is fighting the Wendigo, which is why we see even more flames. As soon as the Wendigo gets killed, the stranger tries to pull the sisters back up, but he can't succeed. They both fall. Beth breaks her spine on a rock, and dies instantly. But we don't really know much about Hannah, she just rolls down pretty smoothly. Unlike Beth, she survives the fall, with a broken leg, and Beth's corpse.
Now, this is the interesting point: Hannah couldn't die from thirst, because there's water down there. So, she started starving a month after, like a normal human. At this point, her only way to survive was to eat, and the only meat she could reach, was Beth.
As the stranger says, cannibalism morphs people into Wendigos in these woods. That's what happened to all the miners down there 40 years ago. They couldn't escape, so they ate each other, becoming Wendigos. So did Hannah. Her transformation is quite obvious when looking at her diary. In the end, Emily finds all the clues about what happened. If she does, she will tell Josh about them. Then Josh, when he encounters Wendigo-Hannah, he'll recognize her, and she won't kill him. He'll just become a Wendigo as well, by eating the stranger. That's pretty much it. Don't know if I was clear.

Mattnetic That means tout didn't find enough clues about Hannah and Beth. There's a few clues you need to find: Beth's head and corpse, as well as Hannah's diary. You can find these as Emily, or as Sam with Mike.
Il you don't find enough clues, then noone will know about what happened. Josh will not recognize Wendigo-Hannah, and she won't recognize him either. In that case, she'll just crush his head, like if she didn't know him, which is what happened to you.
If you don't want that to happen, then you have to find more clues in the caves than you did last time. Then she will just take Josh alive with her other victims. (at least the stranger, you can't avoid his death). Then, he'll turn into a Wendigo by eating the stranger's head, as you can see at the end of the video.

Ok let me sum this story up from how i understand it:
1. Beth and Hannah fell but Hannah survived
2. The flame thrower dude tried to save them not "atack" them.
3. Their brother goes nuts from guilt because he thinks he killed them (wasnt there, left them alone, got drunk and passed out etc. etc.)
4. Hannah eats Beths body because well she is hungry but because of that she turn in to a wendigo ( thouse 2 other ones? are probably old models that were there for 50 years or so, they are just there to portrate that something has happend like that already).
5. We have this whole game.
6. Brother gets kidnaped by Hannah and left but since he got hungry (plus he was a bit mental) he eat the flamethrower dudes body and started turning.

Destiny c: it doesn't make sense that the outcome is the same, since the weight of someone else should change the trajectory of the fall versus being let go. For example, if you let go, Hannah should fall straight down, and break her leg. If both of them fall and they're holding hands, Beth should fall over Hannah and they'd both go sideways, which would splatter both of them. But that's just my opinion.

I feel so bad for Hannah, Beth and Josh, they had some screwed up friends. The only ones that weren't responsible was Chris and Sam, because Chris was passed out with Josh in the beginning.

I think there is a way to save Josh, kinda. ( I think Josh is the mechanic looking guy, right? ) When Sam and Mike are in the Mines and then Sam goes up the mountain Mike and Josh go back into the water and then the Wendigo, Hannah, picks up Josh but doesn't kill him right away ( Pewdiepie got that ) and takes him somewhere. If you get that you get an ending scene of Josh becoming a Wendigo cause he's eating somebody.

I honestly think Hannah did help Sam out in the end. As you see at 22:47 the other Wendigo jumps for Sam but Hannah grabs it making it so she couldn't get Sam. She knew it was Sam I think. Other's may think differently.
Yeah I think you're right, because a few seconds before that, when Sam was hiding next to the fireplace and Hannah came up behind her, it seemed like there was an expression of surprise on her face (22:22). To me it looked as though Hannah could see Sam, despite the fact that she wasn't moving, and so maybe when she saw her up close she recognized her and realized it was her best friend. And if that's true, then it would make sense that she is saving her from the other wendigo right before the big explosion at the end.
Then how do you explain that Hannah kills Sam if you make the wrong choice?

Initially, I didn't care for him, I thought he was kinda a creepy loner type of guy, then when it was revealed that he was the psycho, I cared for him even less and got pissed at him for what he did to his friends. Then in the end when he goes nuts, I grow to feel really sad for him and his illness. Very tragic character

This game is really interesting. None like I've ever seen before, at least. It revolves around the lore of a Native American cryptid that rarely many know the story behind. They're at least trying something new with horror survival monsters, unlike most games these days that are using zombies so excessively it's almost like getting milk out of a decade old, dried out cow teat. We need more games that aren't Left 4 Dead clones..
Second thing is the way the game continues to progress even when the character you're playing as dies. It definitely gives it some realism to survival like the Walking Dead tv series. Most games these days usually have you play as one character and force you to keep doing the same thing over and over until you complete it. It makes the game a little bit less lengthy, but I personally don't have much of a problem with it.

They are going to, Sam is mayor of this city then she remembers her friends and realized that she still didn't find enough clues about Beth so she goes back to that exact hill that Hannah and Beth fell,Then she found out that BETH DIED but not in the fall.The only way to find out how is to kill herself and go into the spirit world.

Some people don't seem to understand so I'll try to explain this, feel free to correct me or add info
50/60 years ago some miners got stuck in the mine. The tribe that lived there warned them about the curse and told them that if they opened that mines the Wendigo spirits would be free, but no one cared. Only 33 got out alive. They had eaten the miners that didn't make it. They were taken to the sanatorium were they turned slowly on Wendigo.
Years later a Wendigo is chasing Hannah and Beth. They run and after falling to their deaths the flamethrower guy kills the Wendigo and tries to help them. Hannah survives. She starves until she decides to eat her sister's corpse. So Hannah becomes a Wendigo.
The Wedigos that are in the lodge are Hannah and a couple miners.
Hannah takes Josh and he starves, until he eats the flamethrower guy. And he becomes a Wendigo.

I'm not trying to start shit but this is what it says in the game that everyone gets confused: There's a curse in the mountain that when someone commits an act of cannibalism, then the spirit of the wendigo enters them and they become one. Lots of people are saying the wendigo spirit possesses them into doing cannibalism, but the game said that doesn't happen until AFTER they do it. It may just be opinion, but according to the game no one gets possessed into doing cannibalism, they just get possessed into becoming a wendigo after deciding themselves to do cannibalism.

Everyone who got turned into wendigo, were only turned into them when they committed an act of cannibalism, and they commited that act due to severe starvation and having no other food. That's how Hannah got turned, she was suffering from starvation after quite some time of no food and had to eat from Beth's corpse in order to survive :'(

I think the spirits just hang around on the mountain waiting to possess any cannibals and remain in that body until it is killed, hence why you get those ghostly faces when the wendigos are killed and the spirits are released once again.
Fucking hell if Hannah wasn't such a drama queen, her a beth would probably still be alive so thanks Hannah.

+Clem's Yes.. yes there would. there were other Wendigos, and Josh in the beginning of the game says. "welcome the annual BlackWood winter getaway!" Going to the mountain is just something they do as friends, Hannah and Beth were just additions to the plot, to make it more interesting.
The game would kinda suck without them though, Josh would just be a boring ass creep and the other Wendigos would never have fucked with the others.

in case anybody is still a bit lost as to the true story, I'll tell you my interpretation of the wendigo. if you think I've left anything out or said something wrong, leave a reply. if you think it's true, please also reply, I wanna see if I got it right. So, when Beth runs into the woods after Hannah, you can see fire in the trees. this is the flamethrower guy trying to kill the wendigo. when Beth and Hannah are running and get to the edge of the cliff, they fall off because they back away from a wendigo. this wendigo is probably one of the miners who were trapped in the mine, went crazy, and turned into wendigo. I think that the people who found them and put them in the mental asylum must have found them in a halfway point between human and wendigo, and put them in the asylum. then they turned into wendigo and either killed all the asylum staff, or drove them out. they then escaped their cells somehow and started to terrorise the woods. for some reason the flamethrower guy takes on the responsibility to contain the wendigo and rid the mountain of the curse. some sort of sacred ground or native forefathers bullshit. he sees the wendigo on the cliff and either burns it to death or scares it off. he then goes over to the edge of the cliff and reaches down to try and help Hannah and Beth. no matter whether you pick the let Hannah go option or the let the branch go, you see the girls fall and you see Beth's back snap on a rock, resulting in certain death, but we do not see Hannah's death. in the end of the animation of them falling, I must admit, she looks very dead, but they probably just did that so that we don't predict that she might be alive. so after she falls, she doesn't die. she is starving in the mines for a while until she resorts to cannibalism and eats parts of beth in a desperate attempt to stay alive. but cannibalism is how the wendigo curse possesses you, so she turns into a wendigo. we know that she is the wendigo with the butterfly tattoo because we see pictures of Hannah with the tattoo. she then targets the kids at the lodge, but there is no evidence as to if she remembers or recognises them. the only kind of proof there might be is in the alternate ending where Wendigo Hannah takes Josh away. there is also a theory that when Sam runs out of the lodge and one of the miner wendigo lunges at her, and the Hannah wendigo attacks it, that she is saving Sam, as she was Sam's best friend and Sam tried to warn her about the prank and wasn't involved in it when it happened. but I think it's most likely that Hannah is just going about her wendigo shit doing wendigo stuff having wendigo banter and killing all those bitches. I'm not sure about the Josh, but before the Hannah wendigo takes Josh away, he says "Hannah?". maybe it's possible that instead of recognising him by sight, as they're apparently not supposed to be able to see anything unless it's moving anyway, that she recognised his voice or maybe her own name. I dunno, leave theories in the replies :3

I don't believe Hannah spirit is present in the wendigo it's probably just some evil force that is able to use the ablities of its victim.It was probably the same force that convinced Josh to lure everybody back to the area because it wanted to feast on more people

If you watch closely in the fade to black when Hannah and Beth falls, you can see that Hannah is slightly moving.

Hannah’s wendigo does NOT try to save Sam and isn’t takin revenge for the prank because the wendigo spirit takes over them and leaves a small shred of humanity left. The reason Hannah’s wendigo attacks the other wendigo is because it sees movement, and when it sees movement it attacks. But when josh recognizes Hannah she keeps him alive with the last shred of humanity
First off, the Wendigos don't attack each other--and not just because they don't hunt in packs, but also because they would be near each other--and second, then how do you explain Hannah never killing Mike? She had at least four opportunities to kill him, but never did?
Also, then how do you explain the fact that when Sam was hiding from Hannah as a Wendigo toward the end, Hannah looked at her and reacted as if she recognized her?

The way she reacts to things and her mannerisms seem more to me than just being naive. Upon a request to make out, she immediately starts stripping, her diary (both of them, but more the doll house one) reads like a pre-teen wrote it. She takes boy quiz's in teen magazines and does kid things like writing her and Mikes initials in little hearts, even Sam thought it was weird.
Her reaction to her friends (whom, to be honest I'm more inclined to believe they're more Sam and Beth's friends and she's the tag along) pranking her and barely seeing her bra (she undid, what, two buttons?) is to run off crying into a goddamned blizzard in the middle of the night!
Hannah reminds me a little bit of Sarah from The Walking Dead games, it'd be interesting if she was susceptible to the spirit of the Wendigo because she is different mentally, perhaps autistic?

There's a theory that Sarah had some kind of anxiety disorder and it seems Hannah might have had the same, since her reaction to the prank was to instantly do something rash and disappear from them (so running away) which is probably the same thing Sarah would have done. Why nobody speaks about Hannah being the Makkapitew?
When the twin sisters fall and Beth dies, the Flamethrower guy kills the AlphaWendigo aka Makkapitew, as seen in the full totem video. His spirit then haunts the next cannibal in the mountain whom turned out to be Hannah who dug up her sister after 30 days to survive. That also explains why at the end of the game HannahWendigo takes on all the other Wendigo and beats the f*ck out of them (and is taller than them).

But i might need to check it again. As for the tower cable being cut, i m pretty sure it wasn't an axe in the cutscene but the wendigo's arm slicing it. Also i can understand why it might have appeared to you as an axe in that really quick scene. You might want to check it again ^^.

Apparently, his grandfather had the past role of capturing the wendigos before him. He managed to do well but ONE wendigo was so difficult. They called it the "Makkapitew', it was more powerful than all the other Wendigos (the miners). Makkapitew was the one who was chasing Hannah and Beth and the one responsible for forcing them over the cliff. The stranger was there trying to help them but they died anyways. He set out to avenge their deaths which he was able to do, burning it. The Makkapitew spirit was UNLEASHED (it's why you can see the spirits screaming while whooshing in the air at 23:15 )
When Hannah and Beth fell, it was Beth who instantly died suggested by the 'Death Totem she finds in the beginning' and 'Hannah's Diary' which can be found by Sam and Mike while searching for Josh. It is shown that Hannah survived the fall only with a broken leg. She buries her dead sister (her cross can be found by Emily) and writes on paper as her journal. After 30 days, Hannah resorts to Cannibalism, burying her sister and eating her body (her head can be found by Emily). This is when the Makkapitew POSSESSED her. It is why she is seen as more dominant and stronger during the lodge scene.

a short explanation: basically it all started up by doing a hurtful prank to hannah sense she has a huge crush on mike. then she finds out tht whole thing was a prank so she ran off. beth went after her. soon they found themselves trapped and thought the dude with the flame thrower was gonna cause serious injury. then beth was the one who ended up dropping them both. hannah seemed to survive tht drop. she stood down there for rlly long and had no food to survive so she ate beth. then she became a windigo. so far... the strongest one.

I love how that at the end Wendihannah actually saved her friends, even though she was struggling to keep the Wendigo inside her. Like while the others were attacking them, Hannah was being the real MVP and defending them. But when she wasn't defending she was back in Wendigo mode.

I just realized that at the end, when Sam is running for the light switch and the Wendigo is chasing her, Hannah as a Wendigo pulls the other one back because Sam and Hannah were best friends and Sam didn't participate in the prank like the others. The same thing with Josh, since Josh recognized Hannah, Hannah didn't kill him. It shows that Hannah actually sort of had a conscience as the Wendigo, which I think is pretty interesting.
A lot of people here are very against cannibalism. Let me just say, if you're starving and you find my corpse, please go right ahead and eat it, my treat. Morality, in the most basic sense, is to not hurt others. You can't hurt what's already dead.

Either way, the good news is that just because you believe something, that doesn't mean it's true. Eating a corpse does not give you an urge to eat humans. If you decide to eat people alive, that's something you already wanted to do beforehand.
A wendigo transformation takes three days. So we can assume Josh wasn't found until later that evening or the next morning.
The search party woulden't have taken that long to search that area of the mine- seeing as a few of the characters would have immediately told them where Beth was buried. And judging from the fact that his eyes, partial mouth and fingernails were the only parts of him that tuned; he definitely wasn't there longer than a full day.
What flew out of the fire, was likely the curse that had infected Hannah. It probably went straight to Josh and (coupled with his mental illness) caused him to succumb to the curse quicker than most.

So at the start when Beth and Hannah were running, there was a wendigo after them, but the flamethrower guy saved them. That's why we see fire while we're running. He spit fire on the creature and reached out his hand to save Beth and Hannah, but they ended up falling unfortunately. It makes a lot of sense now.

The stranger had locked them up through the years, that's why most of them are in the asylum where Mike encounters them. The "real" alpha (Makkapitew??) was the one the stranger killed while Hannah and Beth were hanging over the edge, which then possessed Hannah. So she was at odds with the ones in lower rank, sure, but the main reason so many were alive was because they'd been safely locked away.

My favorite thing, is that Hannah's Windigo is the one responsible for grabbing that miner's Windigo just before he could catch Sam. Giving Sam a way out and a chance to flick the light switch and destroy the windigos. In a way, Hannah's actions saved them all.

Interesting fact: In the interrogation/interview when Ashley tells them that she heard Jessica's voice, Jessica wasn't lying when she said that wasn't her. When Ashley was down there a Wendigo mimicked Jessica's voice, and she of course mistook that for Jessica.

This game is so amazing. Tells such a great story that you the player are in control of! Everyone can die or everyone can live or some can die while some survive! Then the Wendigo twist with Hannah is just crazy. Just the thought of her starving so desperate that she ate her sister and turned! Also Josh is the prank master and he's insane! The scene with him and his sisters and the freaking pig was so shocking like we were in his head
One of the few times where it actually makes SENSE for someone to be marking off days. That usually drives me nuts in fiction, because it's clearly just a way for the audience to know how long someone's been there. But in this case, if you don't have any food, you'd want a rough idea of how long you have before you starve to death. So it actually makes sense that you'd be marking off how long you've been there.
Just stumbled upon these videos and got hooked onto the gameplay and story for Until Dawn, plus seeing Rami Malek and Peter Stormare in it. Pretty creepy game.

The hallucinations of Beth and Hannah are the scariest things I have ever seen in any horror game
I'm kind of angry at how upset Emily and the others suddenly get when they realize that Beth (specifically) died. Note 7:25 when Emily finds Beth's head and starts saying "Oh God Beth no!" Like, shouldn't you have been like that when Hannah ran away? Did it really take the proof of someone actually being *dead* for her to feel any remorse for what they did? I just think that the only person who is truly pure is Sam. I would say Josh but he took his prank a little too far.
I got the impression a lot of them knew deep down but had repressed their feelings, the fact Beth and Hannah were never found gave them a small shred of hope to hold onto that maybe somehow they were still alive but finally seeing concrete evidence was enough to shatter any illusions they might have had.
When you think about it. In the end when Sam was the last one running out of the house and getting chased by one the Wendigo, Hannah/Wendigo jumps in and grabs the other Wendigo as if trying to save Sam so she can escape. Just a thought.
My thought is that Hannah turned into a wendigo because of the wendigo that the flametorcher guy killed, releasing its spirit, if there wasn’t a wendigo spirit in the open, she probably wouldn’t have turned, but because of the wendigo (it was the most powerful, either in the diary/events in the past (can’t remember one of those of the flametorcher guy) so probably explains why it happened. Basically if there are wendigo spirits, they can possess/turn you to a wendigo, if there aren’t any, you can turn into a cannibal (human) at most
