  • Attempting to replace the driveshaft steady bearing but we found that it was a bit more than that. The drive shaft u-joint was pooched too...

Just be careful as has been mentioned here in the comments, there are 2 styles of drive shaft, one you can take apart like mine and replace the steady bearing, and another that is NOT possible to take apart.
U-joints on either style are non servicable.

Yup...as I found out after importing a centre support bearing from the UK...... The shaft on some Volvo's/Some years....is not "serviceable"...It's a one-piece unit.
Mine does not split as yours did at that centre support...... But has the "staked" UJ's as yours. (2009 Xc90 V8) FFS Volvo!

Yeah, I found out that same exact thi g. I found one in the bone yard, but the slip yoke was friction welded together, so it was impossible to take apart. So for now I'm still rockin Fwd. Sad Panda.

did you ever come up with a solution?

As of right now no. I did find another V70R at the junk yard and I snagged the driveshaft but like the above post said, it was a different shaft. Technically a 2 piece shaft, but the slip yoke was friction welded together, so it is non serviceable, so I couldn't take it apart to replace the steady bearing. So still rockin the Fwd because I don't wanna spend $1000 on a drive shaft. I may try building my own, I don't know, well see.
