  • The JBL Bar 5.1 features two battery-powered rear surround speakers that you can position behind your listening position in your home theater, giving you true 5.1 movie sound.
    JBL Bar 5.1: www.crutchfield.com/i-rYTVc2A...
What's extremely cool about those rear surrounds is that they run on battery power, so you can place them anywhere you like without needing to grab power from the wall. Once in place, you can run the automatic calibration built into the bar, which sets level and timing based upon their position.
After you're done watching for the night, just pop the satellite speakers on the ends of the bar to recharge. On a full charge, you'll get up to 10 hours of playback before needing to charge again.
A 10-inch subwoofer provides the deep bass you crave from your movie sound, while 9 drivers in the main bar provide a rich front soundstage. The bar is slim enough to place under most TVs on a stand, and can also be mounted to the wall.

The way my living room is set up, the room is longer than it is wide. How far away can you place the rear satellite speakers from the bar and still get consistent quality sound? Will they still work well 25 feet from the sound bar?

I can help out! I 1st purchased the JBL 5.1 Surround Bar "Newer 2019 Model" and it was a huge disappointment when it came to the actual max power/loudness of the actual soundbar itself, tops off at # 33 for the Max Volume. It has 5x50 watts speakers plus 2 side firing tweeters. When i play music or movies and put it in the Max Volume setting, it lacked power. I returned it and Purchased the JBL 5.1 Bar with Removable Speakers, and it sound way louder! Max Volume tops off at #48! Plus the removal speakers is a nice bonus! Both systems have outstanding bass as they share the same subwoofer. Stay away from the newer model and get this one instead! Its definitely louder at its highest setting and offers the removal speakers for real surround sound experience.

Hi. I can help with this. So I initially had the 5.1 deep bass and it was not giving me what I needed. I then exchanged it for the 5.1 surround and it was better. The soundstage was much better and warmer, it also filled the room much better. I then returned it and bought the bar 5.1 which I now have. Bass and Treble are crisp and the power it has is much stronger and bass is definitely deeper. I'd say if you want something for music and a homely feel in a fairly smaller room the get the 5.1 surround but if you want something loud and strong with deep rich heavy bass then go for the bar 5.1. Hope this helps others out there

If you find it at a very good price, I would say "yes", otherwise, I would go for the newer JBL Bar 500, 700 or 800, these are almost at the same price but they also offer Atmos. If money is not an issue, then go for the 1000 or 1300. These two give you more channels and also have 3 HDMI inputs.

I've had the unit for about 2 years. The left satellite is no longer working remotely, although it will work if I leave it attached to the sound bar. Since it's out of warranty, my options are repair by a JBL service center, buy a replacement speaker or a buy brand new sound bar. Having the speaker repaired by the service center will cost more than a replacement speaker. I'd buy the replacement speaker, but JBL doesn't have any in stock, and none are expected until February 2022 (that's not a typo). I'm pretty unhappy that the unit has only lasted this long until failing. It was great until then, but given the poor quality and inability to get replacements, I recommend staying away from this item

Don't like the charging idea. I'd rather they plugged in. Most people will forget to charge them and it's too much trouble to charge them. They should provide a charging adapter for each one. Also blue tooth devices have a tendency to cut out at low volume. They must have a separate volume control . You must increase the main volume to stop the cutting out.

Don't hope for a firmware update. This bar is already being discontinued because of newer releases that do have Wifi and Google assistant. I have this bar as well and I am not really satisfied.
This is a comment I left on another video about this setup:
I have this setup, I must admit, the sound is great. But there are very big downsides to this setup. For one, the software that JBL puts out is still below par. Let me explain, if you have a PS4, or a smart tv, when you play feedback sounds, get ready to be annoyed endlessly. JBL still has the audio-lock on built in their software. This means that the bar 'should' pick up sounds very quickly, but it doesn't. So whenever you hear feedback sounds, the bar will try to play them, but will mostly fail unless you quickly go through your menus. Also, after your feedback sounds, the bar will crackle and the sub will make this weird 'plop' sound.
In my opinion, just steer clear of JBL when it comes to hifi setups. Yes their BT speakers are the best, but their hifi sucks big time. I have issued a second repair for this soundbar and the question will be wether my service center is able to remove the audio-lock on, because if not, then I will demand a refund. This has to do with the DSP section on the motherboard. If you don't know what this is, do a little bit of research. This is not what you expect from an expensive surround sound system. In this price range, just go with Philips, sony or LG. If you have more to spend, go for Bose or Sonos.
