So what do you guys think? Would something like this meet your surround sound standards or would you prefer to go all in with super high end satellite speakers, sub, center channel, high end amp and all the wiring that goes along with it?
Coming from a heavy nose in the air home theater background I can say I'm pleasently impressed with my sonos beam and 2x sonos ones for rears. Super simple to setup and audio is fantastic. Does the jbl have the ability to charge those satellites without having to attach them back every time? That would be a big selling point and something to reference for the audience (unless I missed it haha)
Heck yes man I own set of these I love the sound that come out of these speakers. Worth the money for sure!!!!!

Use the optical out from your TV and use the TV's speakers as well as the soundbar now you have mids also.

Home theater setup doesn't necessarily mean it's surround. Any TV with a pair of speakers is technically a home theater setup (and we can all agree, that a pair of stereo speakers isn't really immersive). So he's completely right. This is a more immersive setup than his regular TV's sound system.
Even if he didn't have one before his statement would still hold true.

I have had exactly this sound bar for about 9 months and am absolutely thrilled with it. Definitely recommend!

@@hernandez5586 - I am sorry, but my only experience with Sonos has been in the business environment (wireless speakers for patient exam rooms). I really can't judge Sonos against this JBL setup.

I bought these from Amazon two days ago and on the first day I had interference or connectivity problems alike a handful of people. I was able to get rid of it though but switching my television over to use the 2.4 GHz instead of 5.4 GHz. I can keep my other devices on that 5.4 frequency but using that frequency to connect my TV seems to interfere with the wireless speaker signal and produces a crackle, or pop, intermittent connection. I hope this helps someone because I've seen a handful of people that had the same problem and either disabling 5.4 or using 2.4 or simply connecting the TV to the internet with an ethernet cable might fix this problem. I love how these speakers sound.
I tried this home theater.....its mind numbing audio is awesome. The downfiring subwoofer unit is of very high quality and its detachable speakers gives a truly surround sound effect in a big hall

Quick tip....when buying/looking for this system be sure to order the one with detachable satellite speakers. Cruchfield told me JBL has stop making these. If you find one priced below 400.00 USA try to call them to make sure. I did that last week. (Apr. 27th). I bought a 5.1 soundbar with wireless sub. so I lost that money. I just saw 5.1 soundbar, it was less then 400.00, new, open box. But this one has much more base then the Samsung sound bar and sub. It wasn't what I wanted but it's much better then the one I had.
After watching a dozen or two absolute garbage videos, I was quite grateful to hear a real person talking in a real way knowledgeably. Thank you.

I bought this yesterday, have no idea about setting up surround sound systems at all, and told the shop guy this, only really wanted a small sound bar as LG TV speakers were crap. It is amazing for what we want and can play music as well on BT. For an old guy, this was so easy considering the instruction were crap and didn't say to plug into HDMI out- the shop helped out. I'm happy

A friend of mine did such a setup except the bar was above the tv, the sub was too powerful that it vibrated the walls and the bar hit the tv and there went the tv.

hey dude, Im glad you enjoy it. my living room is not that big so I dont need no full surround system. I think a good soundbar is enough for me but I like the idea of having 2 separate speakers. so my question is: if you put the speakers behind you, do they give these "backround noises" or are they having the same sound as the main centerpiece but just louder? I hope this makes sense.. Im not english but I would like to know before buying because I would get them online. and how much did you pay?

Yes, if your tv supports multichannel (so 5.1) than they will give background noise, not just the same stereo sound as the soundbar itself. I paid 355 for them on black friday and with student discount haha. If you have any one question, let me know :)
@@jamdungdude Not at all! If you have a true 5.1 audio file (like for instance netflix), they really work like background speakers, not just stereo.The background speakers dont have low end sound, so make sure you place the subwoofer on a good spot :)

It's such a downer to hear that the mids are bad. It's the same with most budget systems. I wonder if there's any way to combine a single studio monitor speaker to replace the center speaker to get the perfect (almost) system on a budget.
I`m trying to do just that, with two studio monitors which will give good mids for the music. So in effect 7:1 system. But I`m having trouble working out how to route the music to the monitors and the 5:1 to the JBL. We`ll see

Those surround speakers looks very small, are they loud and clear enough ?
I don't think it doesn't provide any mids. It is very consistent across the spectrum.. Huge part of the sound is actually source!!! Ofcorse it will never have performance of complete package of receiver, amplifier and individual speakers but it sound very good ,the bass is really great, mids clear and highs are very crisp!!! I like this stuff a lot.. Bought it yesterday and out of the box the sound was really disappointing but I let it play all day and after I came back home the sound was amazing.. I'm more than satisfied with the buy!!!

You might get a call from the landlord but all you got to say is I don’t play my music past 9pm by law .you have your rights as a tentative. I have neighbors living in a 2 room condo/dupx with 4 adults and 5 kids , loud as hell especially with kids screaming and stomping cause of the parents lack of attention towards them .but they complain that your music is too loud ...... big haters

Do you know of any model of this coming with the input audio ports in the sub woofer instead of at the bar itself? It's key to having an as wireless set up as this when you're having a projector instead of a TV.
I'm having heat problem with my JBL 5.1, around the LED part..not just the front, even the top, bottom, and back side where the LED is located becomes heated after 1 to 2 hours of use...volume is set to 25 to 30 and bass volume is set to 22.... anyone having this kind of problem or it is normal?...I know becoming warm is normal for an electronics...but it is not warm...it's hot but it is still tolerable

Are you not straining your neck having your TV positioned so up high? The best position is where your line of sight is level with the first horizontal line of the thirds.

I have spent the last month or so comparing the BOSE Soundtouch system as well as the SONOS stuff. Both have their pros and cons and seem to be very nice. BOSE has great hardware but their software just plain sucks. SONOS seems to be pretty good all around but no bluetooth which is somewhat of a factor for me. But I just stumbled on this JBL system today and for a single room system, it looks very interesting, especially for the Pricepoint and JBL has always been a good brand to consider when looking at speakers. For me, the way my room is laid out the couch is up against a wall so permanent rear speakers is kind of awkward. But with those little speakers I can simply temporarily lay them on the back of my couch and likely be happy. I am going to speand a day or two looking at more reviews for this system but right now this is the #1 contender.
Any longterm users out there? Over a year or so?

I had my contractor fix some extra pipes in the walls and ceiling so I only had to pull the wires through from the front to the rear speakers. Easy peasy 😉 I’dd probably never go for the wireless battery powered setup because I’m lazy as f*ck and the surround speakers would probably always be clicked to the center speaker 😂

Sony's Z9F price is little higher but has the below features of a AV receiver. Does the JBL 5.1 sound bar have these features? Also does Sony Z9F sub sounds the same as JBL sub? Please advise as I am confused to decide between both.

Excellent system!!!! Love the sound and people are blown by the surround sound effects. >>>>>BUT after 6 months I started having issues. It would not power up. I had to unplug it and leaved it unplugged for 30 minutes to an hour before it would power up. I called JBL support and by the time we discovered how to power it up the warranty time had lapsed..so now I have to plan out when I will be using the system or just let the TV speakers take over.
So your sound in not working after 6 months? Warranty should be 2 years always no?

Went wireless picked up the jbl 5.1. Tell ya how it goes when it arrives! Update5/20/20 The removable speakers are extensions of the sound bar. I like it. I can hear people say words now. Even easier when I disconnect speakers. Everything came with bar except screws to put in wall when mounting. That’s fine just be ready for that when you get one.

Tbh i was thinking the same thing until i thought it through.. you would have to 1. Still run a power cord which is way more obtrusive than speaker wire, or 2. Keep charging them and putting them up and taking them down. Or run everything through the wall, which is easier done with speaker wire than powerlines...
@@Zoranurai13 Wireless charging is a thing for a while now. My phone needs about two hours to charge wirelessly. Speakers can turn on and off automatically and hold the charge for weeks. I'm going to wait till technology catches up with me. ; )

Uhm there are wireless modules for Avrs to connect the rear speakers to the receiver which is wirelessly connected to a transmitter that connects to the Avr.
It's funny how Surround Sound is still new to so many people. It's been around since the 80's, but only 5% of households (or something like that) actually have a surround sound set up...

ah got mine for more than a year now, just found out surround speakers have micro usb charging ports. You dont have to plug them in the soundbar all the time, in my scenerio i placed them on back of my corner couch and connected to two old usd charges from previous phones with longer metal cables. Great product, lacking mids thats true for an audiophile, but its awesome for 5.1 videos.
