I had to match a show I played alto in it my move was to go in between the trombones at a angle Well long story short she missed her and my hat was gone
But honestly my first thought when the vid started was "HOLY HELL THAT'S A HUGE BAND" and then I saw the blindfolds and then it was "Oh god someone's gonna die"
I'm in marching band and they tried to start teaching us how to do this, it was hard and scary haha they have serious talent (we started without trombones and good thing, because I would have been whacked in the face a few times)
In case you can't see it in this video, they're juggling their sticks while the trombones do the suicides. From a more technical standpoint, it really is rather hard to play isolated notes cleanly, so even when you see an "easy line", the snares see a note that 7 people have to play within a hundredth of a second in order to not sound terrible. They aren't even dutting through this. I'm not saying that the trombones are not impressive, but you still shouldn't dismiss the other parts so easily.
Every band should have this many trombones. We only have 6. But yeah...trombones...a good way to kill someone. During the first 2 parts of our show I am either nearly killing people or nearly getting killed.
I'm sure there are many names for it but if you listen closely the announcer says it. It's called "Number Five." The drum tech for my old high school went to CSU and brought it over so our line could play it when our band did trombone suicides.
im from a small town and our band is really small and im sure our trombones couldnt do that. if we broke one we wouldnt have enough money to fix them and thats the sad part. but this is AWSOME (: i wish i could actually see that one day
@ItsAJersseyThing Maybe you were right. I just saw the girls at the bottom left of the screen. BUT they could be a dance team. My school has them and they work as cheerleaders and also perform with the band at all of our performances. And yes. We do have 2 auxiliary teams.
Just saying to all those people hating on football, I start on my highschool's varsity football team and am a trombone in band. I have done marching band for three years and my school is very competitive in it, but I would still say that football is much more difficult. Much, much more difficult. I am also in our All-State band so I'm no slacker in either
Imagine all of the trombonist who went to far in and busted there lip on there mouthpiece from hitting the ground, NOT THIS ONE BUT IN GENERAL ( Notice how i said trombonist not freaking tromboner, it got not funny after beginning band and every spams that joke to me )
The cadence is just called #5, following most of the other traditional names of CSU's pep tunes. For example, what is currently known as "Spell Yell" was once (and still occasionally is) known as #3.
@JamaicanBoy41 funny you mention that. I go to the university of Nebraska. you know, the one with the current record for consecutive sellouts and with a number of national championship titles. and funnily enough, not only does the band program predate the football program, they had to actually schedule football games around the band performances simply because the band drew so many more people than the games back in the day. so keep in mind what helped football get its start ;)
What is the name of this drum line cadence? and yeah we do these at my school and just a hint doing this with a bass trombone is freaking hard!!!!!!! the weight is all different
I think its a cadence i heard called Funk. University of Texas plays it as their kickoff cadence. The music was on their website but im not sure if it is anymore.
@JamaicanBoy41 you can't watch a marching band show from the away side. all the formations are meant to be seen from the home side, and you won't be able to hear the band well since they're playing in the opposite direction. i bet you the home side of those stands are completely packed.
We have been begging our director to let us do these, so we practiced and perfected them all of band camp. He asked us if he could see them, and we messed it up. We do them in the stands at football games now.
haahah looks fun. wish my tyngsboro high had this many trombinists. including me, there r 3 trombonists in the THS band, & i'm not even in high school yet (i play in the football games even though i'm in 8th grade lol). there's more ppl in the trombone section than there is enrolled in all 4 town bands combined(5th, 6th, 7th & 8th, high school)
Blindfolded. Because trombones weren't dangerous enough already.
Bone-Tone Lord This comment gives me life.
+Bone-Tone Lord These instruments are basically clotheslining devices, made to punch out teeth and launch mutes across orchestras.
Do you not see or hear the percussionists in the back? They were doing it by keeping a steady beat thus not hitting each other.
I had to match a show I played alto in it my move was to go in between the trombones at a angle
Well long story short she missed her and my hat was gone
I yearn to do blindfold but I know we can't
But honestly my first thought when the vid started was "HOLY HELL THAT'S A HUGE BAND" and then I saw the blindfolds and then it was "Oh god someone's gonna die"
Sadly. Nobody did
Sage teh Dog
the way you worded that sounded extremely concerning
Imagine having more than 5 trombones
The trombones are one of the biggest sections next to clarinets
Ha- my marching band doesn’t have trombones, nor a clarinet section. We just have baritones and saxes
Bruh there is 9 in my school out of like 200
peepee
I’m like the only trombonist in my band
Imagine if someone’s slide was unlocked
Cormorant Colors lol that’s so me
Mines always unlocked
i always forgit
There's gonna need to be some funerals arranged
oh no. Imagine you swung too fast and it just slid out
I was in the CSU band when they started this in the 90s. It was such a blast. I wish I knew if they still did it.
99% sure they do!
they no longer do :( it stopped in 2016 after someone got hurt
That's a looooot of trombones...
Sure beats my band! We only have 1 trombone... me!
Ive always loved trombone suicides, but Ive never seen them blindfolded! Thats crazy!
If people didn’t know what you were talking about that sentence would be concerning
that would make one heck of an ab workout...
That was some great precision and a visual thrill! Must of been fun practicing that routine.Great job!
That's a big band to need 5 tenors and 7 snares
Yeah
Being a trombone player, that was pretty damn awesome!
0:38 I love how hyped everyone is ahhhh
I'm in marching band and they tried to start teaching us how to do this, it was hard and scary haha they have serious talent (we started without trombones and good thing, because I would have been whacked in the face a few times)

to see all those trombones lined up in a row is a beautiful sight to see
Every band should have this many trombones. We only have 6.

lol we have 2
Jinky Games same lol, next year we'll have three, and the next four so we're slowly growing😂
LightningFast Rc our high school is one of the biggest here so we have ALOT
LightningFast Rc we have 3
LightningFast Rc If they're played right, you only need two in any band.
For our senior night this year we had the trombones do it blindfolded and it was epic.
When the fast tempo wasn't enough
I don't know why, but every single time I watch this, my heart skips a beat.
I'm sure there are many names for it but if you listen closely the announcer says it. It's called "Number Five." The drum tech for my old high school went to CSU and brought it over so our line could play it when our band did trombone suicides.
Wow. That is AMAZING! -student from UW-La Crosse
lol id love to see the first day they practiced it
i love playing trombone
Nicely done.. Looks awesome.
this is so awsome!
TROMBONES ROCK!
i love the bass
This is awesome I am a trombone player also it is easy to do once you get the hang of it
Heck yeah! That was slickkkkk. nice pop
This is why trombones are so awesome.
im from a small town and our band is really small and im sure our trombones couldnt do that. if we broke one we wouldnt have enough money to fix them and thats the sad part. but this is AWSOME (: i wish i could actually see that one day
That is an ENORMOUS trombone section. Holy...
@ItsAJersseyThing Maybe you were right. I just saw the girls at the bottom left of the screen. BUT they could be a dance team. My school has them and they work as cheerleaders and also perform with the band at all of our performances. And yes. We do have 2 auxiliary teams.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible.
I play Trumpet and I still think this is AWESOME!!
There is a proud mom of that trombone dare-devil on the 50th Yard Line -- and I can see why!
All I can say is ... WOW!
First of all that's the biggest trombone section I've ever seen and second best suicide video I've seen all all day
@ItsAJersseyThing The Girls at the back are the auxiliary. they are running to the back of the field with flags at the beginning of the video.
Blew my mind!
I sooo wish I could do this.... but our section only has 3 trombones!!
Just saying to all those people hating on football, I start on my highschool's varsity football team and am a trombone in band. Our teacher calls us the bones.... we're allowed to make fun of the boners dude, it's funny.
Lol Maybe in like 6th grade...
+LordDiddyDot my friends still make that joke tho..... But it's 7th grade so...
+Haley & Saria same
Nicshuffin' Dude beginning band ALWAYS says that at my school. I feel you

My school stopped doing this when they had to replace three 900 dollar trombones and sent several people to the nurse to bandage their heads xD
YEAH TROMBONES!!!!
Sehr gut
blindfolded?! dude!! thats damn awesome!!!
my section does suicides to gerban. Which is this cadence but with a breakdown. We also have more then just down over.
Nice to see a celebration of the trombone
Probably the main reason why I would want to be in a marching band right here.
They are so funn to do I never get tired of trombone suicides :)
I did this last year for my high school band... i still have some of the bruises
The fact that they're blindfolded
our school does the whole band, theres about 200 of us:) but props for the blind folds!!
gave me the chills and i play contra
Super Trombone
Instead of moving to Germany I should've gone to school at CSU on a band scholarship. :( Seriously now, that made me smile.
1! 2! 3! 4! "wait were starting!?! O SHIT"
@JamaicanBoy41 you can't watch a marching band show from the away side. all the formations are meant to be seen from the home side, and you won't be able to hear the band well since they're playing in the opposite direction. i bet you the home side of those stands are completely packed.
pov: their trombone section is bigger than your school's entire band
Yeah!! Im going to college there!!
That is one BIG trombone section o.O
while im watching this i see peter griffin playing the trombone, pretty epic
@wchstuba thats because the football team is there to fill in time when the band is warming up. ^^
@ramenlovesme it's kinda hard to play while they're doing that
We have been begging our director to let us do these, so we practiced and perfected them all of band camp. He asked us if he could see them, and we messed it up. We do them in the stands at football games now.
@JndBStudios In my opinion, they are equally hard, but for different reasons.
holy crap! :) my brother plays trombone i wish he could do that!
Love it. Go CSU.
is there a song name
@ProfKibble finally someone understands
Are they playing during this?
Niiiiiiice!
🤩
so many trombones...
haahah looks fun. wish my tyngsboro high had this many trombinists. including me, there r 3 trombonists in the THS band, & i'm not even in high school yet (i play in the football games even though i'm in 8th grade lol). there's more ppl in the trombone section than there is enrolled in all 4 town bands combined(5th, 6th, 7th & 8th, high school)
Love this vid! Did party rock and trombone suicides last year. Love it so much. On CZcams. "party rock trombone suicides"
Does anybody know the name of this cadence? im trying to find it to use for suicides at our high school but i just cant find it
Just listen to it... learn what you can and make up the rest
We just call it number 5. (I am a CSU trombone player)
Parker Haskell That cadence is funky as hell dude
Erich14 Yah it is my favorite one
