*sobs* great great scene
Succession finale brought me here. What a song.
Me too.
Anyone here after watching the Sucession series finale? So glad i found this song and this amazing singer.
As Scot’s, we must protect this national treasure at all costs. Dougie you are truly amazing. Your voice has never aged. So majestic and strong. ❤️ 🏴
🏴❤
Some Succession Fan Came After Last Episode 😢😢
Facts🤞🏾
here from succession finale , this is epic ❤❤
Masterful storytelling for the Succession team to work this into the last episode. Brian Cox got a legendary (and uniquely Scots) send-off.
Listened to you in the cargill hall bridge of weir, must be 16 years ago, a tiny gig that everyone loved , beautiful voice , god bless you dougie
You’re murdering it Karl!
Even though my paternal grandparents were born and raised in Scotland I've never heard this beautiful song and have never seen or heard this brilliant performer before. A new fan!!!!
Did you know the term 'gringo' comes from Mexican soldoers at the Alamo on hearing the Scots volunteers sing Burn's 'Green grow the rashes O'.
Try his song Caledonia . It's wonderful. You'll be glad to have Scots heritage!
Just gorgeous; Dougie MacLean is a world treasure, of course. Pure, musical, avoids affectations -- and so solidly touches the heart.
Because of this song i fell in love with my Country
Who is listening to this amazing song after the final episode of Succession?
Me😢
wouldn't have found this without Succession! :D
I love how somehow at every place Dougie plays ever the audience can sing really well
If you had been paying attention... Dougie has done concerts every week and we are the Global Choir.
By far my favourite modern artists rendition of this wonderful old song. Dougie does it justice.
Such beautiful vocal ornaments, such a lovely treatment of the melody. My heart melts every time I hear another fantastic rendition of this utterly unique song
Thank you, Dougie. Beautiful and wonderful music, as always.
youre murdering it karl
Great song Dougie, thanks for sharing, best wishes
Usual performance by Dougie. Brilliant as always :).
Oh yes ! soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.
This is the 10th time I've listened to this in a row, nowhere near tired of it
So it's not just me. :-)
Here after that heartbreaking scene in the Succession finale
Your voice is as deep and compelling as ever. I look forward to many more years of this pleasure. Thank you!
I love how this video is oh so folk music sweet, causes my heart and soul to feel blessed to hear good music.
Thank u Rabbie Burns and Dougie
He is so very good. This song makes me cry.
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.
This is a wonderful performance of a song I only just heard for the first time in the movie "Wonder Woman". Ewen Bremner sings it in the film. What a beautiful song!
My absolutely favourite version of this gorgeous song!
" Auld Nature swears , the lovely dears , her highest work she classes O , Her prenticed hands , she tried on man ,and then she made the lasses O " many a true word , one of the greatest dedications to the female of our species ever written . .............strange he didn't sing this very moving verse ?????
What a great version....so many are over-sung or just a bit over done....but this is so much about the song than anything else.
Stunning version, and given me some work to do now learning it. :-)
Never tire of this. Beautiful.
Another brilliant song by Dougie (Rabbie Burns)
absolute Magic.
Here's tae Rabbie Burns , the worlds foremost poet of the emotions.
Celebrated world wide. The BBC Scotland on line did all of Burns poems and songs by well known names , into a library. Give it a visit.
One of my favourites.
Robert Burns would be proud.
In Deed He is of his worthy Bard.
My college professor explained the song/poem to the class. Robert Burns says the sweetest days he ever had were spend with Lasses(women). Some men find happiness in money but those men are Asses. Lol. This was/is an awesome song.
Beautiful.
beautiful. thank you. you made me cry. but in a good way.
your so loved .my favorite voice in music❤❤❤❤💋💋💋💋
Dougie is the best. No contest.
Thank you Dougie
so funny how true love doesnt get commented on much and is left in peace ahhh :)
I think the song is more about lust than love.Great version but I dont think it bawdy enough, me thinks Mr Burns meant the dirty scots devil...
...
Love this one ...
Brilliant..🎶🎶🎶
Liam O'Flynn, Andy Irvine and Christy Moore would love to play alongside I'm sure:::))) reallly lovely::)) Welcome to Australia
Superb 🎉
I’ve always wondered about the connections between this and the American Civil War song, Green Grow the lilacs, and the Christmas song, Green Grow the Rushes.
Why isn't Dougie a UK Legend . Just found him after a Caledonia cover by the wonderful Amy Macdoneld. Wales love our celtic cousins
Oh, he is :-)
Succesion season finale
all the girls love you douglas
i wish i had a guitar like your's
THE ALAMO'S MUSICAL DUEL - February 28, 1836 - Susannah Dickinson's eyewitness accounts of the Alamo siege are the most heavily relied upon source of information regarding the last days of the Alamo defenders. Although most of her stories were tragically somber, she did have a joyful tale to tell from Day 6 of the siege. According to Dickinson, Davy Crockett took it upon himself to raise the morale of the men and he decided that the best way to do so was by challenging John McGregor to a musical duel of instruments. McGregor, a Scotsman by birth, took up his bagpipes while Crockett took up his fiddle. They played back and forth, loudly enough for the Mexican soldiers to hear - and they created one of the most legendary moments in Texas history. It is said that McGregor won the duel because he was able to play the loudest and the longest. And Texas urban legend claims that the Mexican soldiers coined the term "gringo" after hearing the men singing "Green Grow the Rushes Oh". While these stories have undoubtedly grown and been embellished throughout the years, the heart of the tale is based in fact and it was undoubtedly one of the few happy moments for the beleaguered Alamo defenders during their ordeal.
So lovely that I can listen and watch on a loop. Being French I can just try and guess the meaning of the Scottish words, so I should be very grateful if anyone could give me the English translation of these words.
The words were writren by the Scottish poet Robbie Burns. The songs words explain how almost every good thing in this world has come from the hands of women. He tries to convey that mother nature practiced creating a human on man and perfected it with a woman and that of all the time he spent on earth, the best of those times was when he was in the company of women.
@@martinrobson9770 Thanks a lot, Martin for your accurate and useful explanations
Happy Birthday Robert Burns!!!
Logan Roy and Karl brought me here
Mesmerising
it truly is
Logan Roy sent me 🤍
all is missing is a smile
💙
I’ll sing you one oh
Or the laddie's oh, of course.
good grief. I just tried to post this on Facebook and 'they' blocked it, saying that someone deemed this 'offensive'?!?!?! Can anyone tell me WHY? I am SOOOOO sick of censorship.
i'd sing too
MacLean's voice was made for Burns. He should know that and maybe stay a little more in the tradition that we are so thirsty for... Very pleasant.
I knew nothing about this song/poem until yesterday when i was looking for Green Grow the Rushes O, a different much older song/poem. Did Robert Burns write this or was it his version of something traditional? Its not the tune I imagined going with it, which is not faulting Dougie's performance in any way, I just imagined it differently. Did Robert Burns imagine it as a tune or just a poem?
Robert burns it is said picked up this song in a tavern ìn Kilmarnock ,he rewrote some of the lines as it was rather vulgar
Succession brought me here
please teach me the meanings of the title. Green means nature? What is the meaning of rash. I also see the title of "Green grow the rushes". rash or rush?
This is a very profound statement and a long essay could be written about it. I think 'rashes' is the Scottish pronunciation of 'rushes' (like grasses). The line implies the passage of time and the song has the feeling of an old man at the end of his life looking back on his achievements and reflecting on what is important. In this respect, it is a very sad moment. However, life goes on, the grass will contine to grow and there is hope for the future if one remains optimistic and focuses on the good things in life. That to me is the starting point. It is also, of course, a tribute to women who are, among many other things, the miracle through which life does go on from one generation to the next. To say this in such a simple song with a great sing-along chorus is the work of true genius and Robert Burns is rightly regarded as one of the greatest poets of all time.
I'm pretty sure that he's saying "Rushes" his accent is making it sound like "Rashes" I've never seen a green rash....🤔🤔
This is the song they sung at the Alamo , GRINGO
Русские тут?
wonder woman brought me here
Gringo?
Michael Marra is so much better. Sorry, Dougie. Your guitar picking is great, but Marra trumps you. Just my opinion. Still a great rendition.
Just your opinion
Very much your opinion. I'm neither Scots nor irish but I love this song. I listened to Marra's version - a boring, off-key dirge. Just my opinion of course.
sorry but this really didn't do robbie justice
Beautiful.
