When my step dad (the best man in the world) passed away. My mum couldn't decide which song to have played at his funeral. I asked her 'what CD was in his player in his workshop!?' (His pride and joy) Turns out it was Dougie... this was the song we played at his funeral, id never heard it, or of him, before but now, I find it such a comfort! I assumed he had loved dougie for years.. turns out he saw him for the first and only time in 2017 (maybe 18) at Cornwall festival and fell for his music, apparently bought the cd there and then and listened all the time.. He paid for my wedding and then it was postponed (covid) . He passed away so unexpectedly, and just weeks after what would have been my wedding day, if it wasn't for covid he would have been there! 11 months later, our wedding went ahead. It was amazing but our special man was missing! My husband, mum and I will be spending our first wedding anniversary, where he first saw dougie, watching him! at Cornwall Festival 🥰 It will be bitter sweet but it will be amazing and I can't wait!! This song does and always will mean the world to me His love WILL carry me
How we are all so vulnerable & the gift of love is wonderful & nothing may last forever, but to be here surrounded with love for our children is simply priceless & no wealth could equal It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard & the sweet melody is haunting
So beautiful. I remember watching this when it was first broadcast. Still my favourite version of the song. Kathy is great and the musicians are great. And it’s a great song.
I was listening to this song in 1993 preparing a cot for my expected baby, the baby was still born shortly after, and I have always hope the baby heard the song before it died . Couldn't ask for a nicer or more meaningful one for him to have heard, and it always reminds me of him and moves me. Thanks for posting as I lost my copy and couldn't remember the name of it.
Music is such a beautiful thing , it brings back the pain while leaving its comfort to smooth over the sheer rawness of that chapter in your life. Its rare that pain can be sweet .
+Liz Johnstone Oh my dear, I can´t imagine what that must have been like..To carry him full term and lose him. Not your fault. And yes, the love will carry. Him and You. Love and Light
HogwashMcTurnip Thank you , I have a Christian faith and it has carried me through many a trail, we weren't promised an easy time but we were promised that He would carried our burdens and walk beside us. Love and Blessings.
Babies within learn the music that their mothers love. Perhaps when you hear it again you will send love along that invisible bond from heart to heart.
It's a thin line that leads us and keeps a man from shame And dark clouds quickly gather along the way he came There's fear out on the mountain and death out on the plain There's heartbreak and heart-ache in the shadow of the flame But this love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me The strongest web will tangle, the sweetest bloom will fall And somewhere in the distance we try and catch it all Success lasts for a moment and failure's always near And you look down at your blistered hands as turns another year This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me These days are golden, they must not waste away Our time is like that flower and soon it will decay And though by storms we're weakened, uncertainty is sure And like the coming of the dawn it's ours for evermore This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me Embed
I have the utmost respect for dougie and jenni we used to have a beer at the meickleour hotel and and when i burnt myself Dougie was great i,ll say no more but jenni and dougie x
I've recently discovered this song though my choir. It's wonderful as it enables to reflect on all the wonderful friends I have now and have had through all the six decades of my life. Thanks for posting.
Kathy Mattea sang this song last night at her Phoenix concert. It was so beautiful I had to find! Cannot wait to enjoy on her new album coming in September 2018
My partner and I saw Duggie Maclean perform at a small venue in Settle this year. Among the many beautiful songs he performed that magical evening was, 'This Love Will Carry.' It summed up all the things we have gone through over the past two years, which has made our love for each other stronger. Dougie, you have a magic gift in your song writing: the words stand alone as poetry. When put to your music they convey feelings and emotions few other song writers have managed to achieve. Peter R C
...Y aunque por las tormentas Estamos debilitados, la incertidumbre es seguro Y al igual que la llegada de la aurora es nuestro para siempre... Beautiful song!!!!!!!!!
I was watching a Kathey Mattea video of Cheryl Wheeler's Further and further away. Something about the expressions on one of the faces in the band caught my eye. Looked at the credits and, for the next several hours was absorbed with Doogie MacLean's music. Amazing and beautiful lyrics, music. I'm a straight guy, but there's something so compelling about him that's beautiful on so many levels.
Ken Norian Absolutely compelling and beautiful - his face, expressions, songs, lyrics, voice...saw him in concert recently for the first time and am totally in love with him!
+Ken Norian Excuse me? "I am a straight guy" Maybe I am missing something. Ãre you implying there is something weird about listening to Dougie? What a seriously odd remark. And I am so happy that you are "Straight|!" Actually I think you maybe need ro take a look at that? By the way Dougie is a happily married Ckristian man with a family . I am now going to send the song to all my trans and gay frieñds thanks to this weirdo! Because " My love will carry"
I just saw Kathy yesterday at Univ of Kansas and she sang this song. Got home today and was looking it up, which led me to this video and to Dougie who is completely new to me. So, I've spent the last couple of hours listening to song after song of his before coming back to this one. At 53, I don't find a whole lot of music that's unfamiliar to me that I want to listen to, so I'm really excited about finding him! Brilliant stuff!

+rodsreel I think his voice is so gentle, and such a gentle song, and hers is very powerful. Fantastic voice - but I just much prefer it when dougie sings it on his own.
Well, as much as I respect Dougie and his songwriting, I think this version is the best I've seen....in large part because of Kathy. The song is fuller and more beautiful with her harmonies. Also, the band here is wonderful. We can respectfully disagree though....there is room for all opinions.

As my mother used to say, have you ever heard anything so beautiful?
His wee concerts during this pandemic have been a great insperation. Well done Dougie.
Absolutely wonderful. Every week there's Dougie singing for us.
How we are all so vulnerable & the gift of love is wonderful & nothing may last forever, but to be here surrounded with love for our children is simply priceless & no wealth could equal

Dougie ended tonight's wee concert with this lovely song. He is a blooming treasure.
This was my first dance at my wedding last weekend. Magical. I had never heard it until my now-husband showed it to me shortly after he proposed.
Sometimes a song had to be written. It's a job that could take a lifetime of feeling and seeing but it crystalizes an eternal truth in 4 minutes.
Since I've found this music my life just feels better

I wonder how I lived this long not knowing this artist. I am an instant fan. What a lovely soul.

And dark clouds quickly gather along the way he came
There's fear out on the mountain and death out on the plain
There's heartbreak and heart-ache in the shadow of the flame

I know this love will carry me
The strongest web will tangle, the sweetest bloom will fall
And somewhere in the distance we try and catch it all
Success lasts for a moment and failure's always near
And you look down at your blistered hands as turns another year
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me
These days are golden, they must not waste away
Our time is like that flower and soon it will decay
And though by storms we're weakened, uncertainty is sure
And like the coming of the dawn it's ours for evermore
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me
This love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me

Only hear this recently. Another beautiful song from Dougie, and great accompaniment from Kathy, Ally and co. What a backing group. Sublime stuff.
Great stuff...and Ally Bain playing fiddle...that’s class....
I've recently discovered this song though my choir. It's wonderful as it enables to reflect on all the wonderful friends I have now and have had through all the six decades of my life. Thanks for posting.
Had the pleasure to hear his performance in Windsor NSW Australia some years back - soulful ❤️
I really love his music.
Song for my 50th Wedding Anniversary
That tune takes me home every time.
Thanks for posting - I've only just discovered this song through singing the chorus with my choir. Such a pleasure to hear the complete song.
Notice too my favorite Scots musician of all, Ali Bain. The humanity of his rich fiddle tone is uncanny.
Gorgeous

Ken, I know 'where you are coming from', and I agree. Have you listened to 'We Hide in the Wind'? If not, I think you will like it. 12/01/2014
Just took another look on how to most quickly access the song; put 'Hide In The Wind' in the search window. 12/01/2014
071949 Not until now - but when I like songs I listen to them over and over until they're imprinted into my mind. Just did that now. So... thanks!
Ken Norian Absolutely compelling and beautiful - his face, expressions, songs, lyrics, voice...saw him in concert recently for the first time and am totally in love with him!

Not a Dougie MacLean fan particularly , but this rendition of his composition , with the musicianship of the session band is stupendous .
This song is for you two!
DAMN ONIONS!😭🧅🧅🧅🧅
. . l o v e it !!
Didn't notice Aly Bain there too. A Shetlander.
Lovely song. You might want to think about the final few frames containing the bbc logo. That won't do you any favours. :)

Sorry all you Kathy Mattea fans - she's got a great voice but IMHO she just ruins this. He's perfect on his own.
+crypticcurls Why does she ruin this song?
+rodsreel I think his voice is so gentle, and such a gentle song, and hers is very powerful. Fantastic voice - but I just much prefer it when dougie sings it on his own.
Awwww now, it sounds like a couple in love singing together in celebration and heart!
