- "Auld Lang Syne, Robert Burns at Celtic Connections 2009. Recorded last night at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, this concert features some of Scotland's finest performers singing many of Burns best loved songs."
- Hudba
Came here after the finale of Succession. Great scene with where Logan and Karl sing it at the dinner table. Perfect choice of verse featured:
"The war'ly race may riches chase, - An' riches still may fly them, O; An' tho' at last they catch them fast, Their hearts can ne'er enjoy them, O."
same!
Hah. High fives.
From Succession's final episode.
Tear jerker.
Best version of this song I've ever heard - bet Burns himself would have loved it.
What a great thing to say ! And I agree.
Nae a loss, fit a gift!
Now THAT's how to sing Burns. A great performance.
Mick Marra, one of the very best to come out of Dundee. Left us far too early. RIP
No words here, just floods of tears...
Beautiful, tumbling down the centuries and as wonderful now as ever. Marra sings it as though Burns wrote it for his voice.
What an anthem! This is something which has rocked my soul, a rich and beautiful tune performed by a legend of our time. Thank you Michael. Isn't it great to be Scottish.
One of my favourite Scottish voices - in every sense of the word.
If you listen to this and don't feel something inside, then there's something wrong with you. Nobody can sing this like Michael Marra - nobody. Bless his heart, what a loss.
so true
Enoch Kent can sing it just as well. It's too bad it got taken down. I first heard his version (from his album "For The Women") in 2005. My favorite Aunt Ruby had just died (we were estranged and there was no way to heal it) and I was alone in her house, feeling a pain in my heart but unable to cry. Kent's version of Green Grow The Rashes-o came on the radio and the dam broke. This song does that. Catch Kent's version if you can. It's just as powerful as Michael Marra's.
Celtic woman version is very good. He has that Scottish accent that is hard to understand. Toward the end it sounds like a completely different language.
@@johnreed9050 it is a different language, not accent
@@johnreed9050 It is Ayrshire dialect. Some of us still speak this way when amang friens
Never forgotten Mick, sings from the heart.
Best version ive heard,i cant think who could sing it better, well done Michael . hope its good up there...if heaven was Dundee...eh?
Saw this last week on Celtic Connections and was completely blown away - the best performance of the night from someone I have incredibly never heard before!
I had the pleasure of supporting Michael one time, it was the most enjoyable experience ever! Once he had a sound check I said that will do for me! He guided me. Thank you, never forget x
Now famous as rendered in the last episode of SUCCESSION.
Great show hope it gets this video 1 million more views
.....Ah such a sad loss of one of Scotland's sons! beautiful song! SAOR ALBA
If ever there was a haunting melody this is it. Top class performance
this song was written - according to date - in 1783. Burns was 24 years old. If that isn't genius I don't know what is.
Thats why hes the man right enough, Robert Fergusons very near he died then falling down the stairs drunk
Best version I've heard. RIP Michael. Gone but no forgotten.
I loved Michael singing this.
Will miss his great performances..
A fond farewell.
Waww!, just Waww! I keep coming back to this every few weeks. Hits me as hard as it did on first hearing it.
Michael was a friend of mine from days of yore! It great to see that he is still up there with the best of them in Scottish music. Well done Mick!
this song speaks to me on so many different levels. it makes me think bout everything that is important in life and makes me feel like such a fool for all the sins ive caused to both myself and other people. one of my favourite songs ever i think :)
R.I.P Robbie Burns
He was my mother's cousin and I only met him once, but he was one of the truest, funniest and kindest men I've ever had the honour of knowing.
:)
Michael Marra owned this song
Fucking superb all the very best Michael Marra Scottish legend.
I love his voice...so human and touching! I wish I could have heard him live. 💕
Yir right! It's great to be Scottish. Jist imagine whit it would be like if we
truly had a culture that was truly celebrated by our media...
The Scots language wouldn't be denegrated - it would be celebrated.
Michael Marra and the Proclaimers - and lots more - sing unashamedly in Scots
and why not? It's our language. Burns fought for our language 250 years ago - God Bless him and all who carry his torch.
Happy Burns Night up there Michael, and thanks
Great rendition of this timeless tune.
brilliant he is like a Scottish Tom Waits the Dundee boy!
Good comparison, one big difference though, Michael didn't deal in the self pity that Tom does.
Wonderful version. RIP, Mike.
I only got introduced to Michaels music recently after hearing Hue and Cry sing this and Mother Glasgow. Beautiful tracks. So sad that I never got to really hear his music until he's gone. RIP.
Michael was fucking amazing.
"A worldy race may riches chase, and richer still may fly them oh, but when at last they catch them fast their hearts can ne'er enjoy them oh" Lovely.
We were there - and with no abstentions this is and was the best version of a parcel rogues in a nation since Burns wrote the song ; Scotland has lost another bard . We must learn to love our treasures whilst they are with us ; love and peace Michael - my auld grey heid misses him
wonderful, sweet, moving rendition. Robert Burns was and wil always be my favorite.
I love so much his songs, works and life. Great, great, great man.
Aye. Just pauchled a half day off work to pay my last respects on Tuesday. I've not stopped crying since Michael met up with Frida...
Have one for me up there. Cheers Mick !
One of my favourite songs, by one of my favourite singers. I had the privilege of seeing Michael live in Tulloch Castle, Dingwall some years ago and he left a lasting impression. RIP a Scottish hero.
Dundee lost a very special man! Forever in my heart Michael xxx
That's the way it should be sung! Fantastic!

you gave me a great deal of pleasure over many years One of the truly great Scottish folk singers. You will be missed by many.
Was lucky enough to hear him play four times.
Man was a genius, and thoroughly entertaining to boot. Not many such people.
RIP Michael.
Legend Michael thanks mate great time that tour❤
The finest rendition of this song, bar none.
I first saw Michael in John McGrath's Border Warfare at the the Tramway in Glasgow in the 1980's where he performed Robert Burns "Sic a parcel o' rogues in a nation" from high above the audience, I will always remember it, RIP Michael.
Hopefully Michael is in a more hospitable inn with all the greats who have gone before. RIP Michael Marra.
I can't stop watching.
I love this very, very much.

Triththaus
so beautiful Mick, RIP xx
Fond memories of a man with a twinkle in his eye and earth in his boots, Stonehaven Folk Club night
awesome
A beautiful song performed by an outstanding artist. This song is the reason Europeans are referred to as Green Goes in Mexico. Scottish troops fighting in Mexico would sing this song as they marched. Hence the reference to Green Goes. Scotland little country Big Influence.
Sorry only a theory ,Gringo in Spanish means foreigner and is used all over Latin America
Love his songs,a singer he is not,but he puts in great feeling, that makes the difference.
A singer he most certainly is, and one of the best. Think Waits, Cohen, Dylan.
Quality stuff!
So sad that he's no longer with us xxx
Great performance.
farewell mm,may the rashes grow green ,always
great version , RIP :(
Ive been face to face with marra my head teacher is the brother of him how awesome :D
Really quite moving...
With open eyes
Its almost as if this song was meant for his voice.
Excellent.
My lord save my life , take away my conviction at appeal and let me see my beautiful babies ,
Green grow the rashes indeed. And if the invention of Penicillin had only come in Burns' time...
Aye, stands out like a "sore thumb"
then perhaps the Burns would've been less burning, and the rashes growing less green...
:-))) ....Scots is a very complex language, an obscure subset of "engerlanderich" and many other tongues supporting it.....even the correct word "rushes" has more meanings, inferences and intentent than any Google translator could fathom....
In the sense of his name burn does not mean fire...In Scots a Burn is a small river or stream!!!! viz Mesopatamia...as farmers they relied on the
At this point I must mention, Professor Marvel and The Wizard of Oz were the same person.
....on this point I must defer to your demonstrably superior erudition......down Toto.
Tintin, get that bloody Snowy on the lead.......
Muy bien!
We miss you Mike.
I sing 'Hookey' to remember you.
sad but sweet r.i.p
Just brilliant. 19 naysayers have no soul.
i'm sure Mick wold have voted yes...
I doubt it very much. His niece Jenny is a Labour MSP.
Fair number of Yes folk in the Labour camp. I reckon Michael would've voted yes. He was a socialist and a republican. Labour have strayed so far from where they should be, and I do feel Michael to be the type that would've have followed Labour blindly to where they are now
No bother Derek Acorah. Who are you to speak for the dead? Why not just enjoy a great performance, by a wonderfully talented Scot, rather than try to score a cheap political point?
+Fraser Gray absolutely right :)
Iam a yesser too but turn it up ffs
Mmmmmm Betty!
Succession brought me here :)
I first heard this by Enoch Kent 12 years ago, from his album "For The Women." That version was every bit as good as this one, but it's nowhere to be found on CZcams. Does anyone else know it?
