All three Wainwrights appear in The Aviator, playing singers from different eras: Louden's a singer from the 30's (sings "Happy Feet"), Rufus from the 20s with this song, and Martha from the 40s with "I'll Be Seeing You"
Great performance! Great song! Great movie! "The Aviator" has introduced me to these great sounds from the 20's, 30's and 40's. Now I'm gonna check out this great music for myself. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated!
because this is the way he felt the song. There should be freedom in singing. I wonder if you are a new vocal student... it never fails that when my new ones are learning the mechanics of singing and diction, etc., they are sensitve to what others do that break these "rules" that they are learning. Its good to hear that they are paying attention and years later when they've mastered the mechanics and are set free to interpret and make their own sounds I remind of the days they were so "smart"!
@TheBabyboomkidof53 I choose to believe that you know exactly what you talk about, and so i thank you for sharing that very interesting fact in relation to the song!! :) You gave me a piece of the musical-puzzle that i've never thought of and that fits exactly! Best comment so far! :)
This sounds almost exactly like the original 1922 Paul Whiteman version, minus the singing. I don't think I've ever heard a modern version of a 1920s song that sounds so authentic.
interesting, what apparently sounds like a tenor banjo, which would be the standart instrument for this type of 20's music, is actually a banjitar, a six stringed guitar banjo. -nice modern twist!
I like this song, but he does sound rushed. I also like the sound of the music from the 30s. I don't know the term I'm looking for its almost like as if you were to sing into a can.
Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks [the band playing on this track] are now at Iguana [240 W. 54th St NYC] every Monday and Tuesday night ! [212 765 5454] They just finished 5 years with Boardwalk Empire and about to release Volume 3 of Boardwalk Empire series CD ! I requested this tune...they played it !
First time ever seeing Rufus Wainwright o_o He's kind of handsome! Thoufht he'd be ugly... Don't know why though... xD Have been listening to his music for some years now, but never wondered what he'd look like... :P
Best Version IMHO is Georges Gueterary (I don't think I spelled that right) in the movie "An American In Paris". This version sounds hurried, nasal and dull.
i think you ask what has happened with the video since it used to work before & the short answer is that i don't know. I haven't touched it since i uploaded it. And then the sync was perfect. :( Greetings from Schweden anyway :)

That was so perfect... He looks amazing in a tux
I wish this played on the radio.
OMG!
He look like when he was young singing "I'm a runnin" !!
Look for this on youtube!
So proud he's from Quebec! (Mtl)
J'l'adore!
I just adore this man.
If he keeps up the good work he may be another Doodles Weaver !!
Rufus Wainright is just ONE STEP beyond totally adorable .. and he sings sweet too!! I LOVE Vince and the Nighthawks too.

I love it bring back the 20's and 30's
True he doesnt annunciate, but its part of his charm :) He is too delicious
FANTASTIC!!!

Superb, it's like the 1920-30's all over again :)
Very classy. Totally impressive.
Listen to Gershwin, Cole Porter and people like that.
this is lovely!
by far my fave rufus song
I prefer his "Whoopee Cushion Serenade" duet with Freddie Flatulence. It's a gas, daddy-o !
I wish he prounounced more! (But i'm a musical theatre junkie, so i think everyone needs to pronounce more lol)
love this song,,,,
Lindo lindo, Rufus, como sempre.
Canta muito e tem o maior bom gosto.
Raise the Rufus!
Nice ...
wow :P very good song ^^
genial!

It is the Paul Whiteman arrangement. Love it.
Rufus fell down the stairway, alas.
Gershwin brothers at their best.

Composed by George Gershwin
First time ever seeing Rufus Wainwright

Lisa Strong George’s Guétary was a natural cabaret singer. Rufus has a very good voice but Georges’ version was the best.

WHy doesn't he annunciate more? You can hardly understand him...
this song makes me wanna smoke some reefer and have agood ole time
I like how this video is slightly out of sync, because the violin looks as if it is producing the sound of a trumpet. Fantastic song though.
Al Gore on the drums.
Don't think I've ever seen CZcams get sound and picture so out of sync!
@howardrhughes Haha no, DiCaprio is great in that movie ;)
yeah he is very talented. but the band is amazing! totally an art we are losing.
Great job on this song - think Taco and Puttin' On The Ritz. Too bad the the music and words aren't in sync.
too fast
It's true to the original arrangement.
sounds rushed....
It's true to the original arrangement.
She sings through her nose
A bit to girlish....Georges Guetary's version is better
That was perfection
Where the hell is Jon-Erik??
i like his singing but when he sings, he sounds like a bee stung his tongue
Rap killed romance. Too bad for the youngsters.
GET THE HOOK! This guy would make Helen Keller cover her ears! Flat nasally and dull
