This video just saved my life, I couldn't find a good video explaining it for a desktop computer and instead kept finding videos for laptops until I stumbled across this masterpiece right here! Thank you so much for making this detailed and easy to understand video!
How did u do it im confused? Which cables do I need to plug into the ssd
@@justinkupper318 small on on the right side bit and long one on left
Why didn’t you just type in pc after typing everything else

Great tutorial, leaving a comment so the mighty algorithm makes this video easier to find for our new PC Master-race members.

Thank you
Lol I just joined a few days ago and now I see the hype. I’ve been missing out
This has to be one of the best tutorials on anything I've seen - clear steps, showing the types of mobo and installation methods, addressing common mistakes and potential concerns. It's like a tutorial and FAQ in one.
What can I say but THANK YOU! Amazing video. So intelligently done. Professional, precise, amazing production, and so much more. Just so good. Appreciated!!!
The fact that you covered every little step on the way was immensely helpful. You have a great day sir
You were the only one explaining the prebuilt in sheilds, thank you so much
So useful. Very clear and simple. Didn't jump back and forth between too much info and not enough. And your very easy to understand and listen to. Love your work!
Thank you for the information. I've been struggling with the building of my new PC for 2 days. I've built PCS before but not with this new type of memory. There was no mounting screw for the m2 memory and nothing in the case would fit the mounting hole. It wasn't till I saw your video that I realized the cover over the m2 socket was actually a heat sink. So I followed your instructions once I realized that, and everything finally came into place. Whoosh
This is Detailed.
Great Job. 👍
Added my first SSD today this tutorial was awesome thanks!
very informative, and Adam explains it in an easy to understand way. Thanks a lot. I have just increased RAM to my pc, the next thing is trying to get an SDD.
This dudes awesome. I couldn’t find a video that said it was safe to install the ssd to a prebuilt pc and I just had to make sure yk. And he’s smiling tellin me it’s safe
This is also important, so your 2.5 inch SATA SSD is recognized in BIOS. On a lot of motherboards, SSD ports can share PCI lanes. Check your manual so that you install the SSD data cable in an open port (not already in use) PCI lane.
@@pcworld I mentioned this, Adam, because if they have a previously installed M.2, the 2.5 SDD install could force the M.2 to no longer be recognized as an installed drive. It's very important to mention this, even if it is just a basic 'how to' video...
@@pcworld I don't have a manual, what should I do?
@@stephen3260 Find it online?
@@rjjeffreys could it have that effect on an SATA III HDD? because i installed a new m.2 last night and my HDD stopped showing up in my devices and drives, though my other SSD still appears
@@CourtesyoftheD Absolutey, it could be an issue for you. But, also be sure to check that your HDD SATA power and data cables are tightly secured, and then check if that drive is being recognized again in your BIOS after. Good luck!
This is an outstanding tutorial. All useful information and zero fluff. You should teach a course on how to videos.
Why are the explanations for PC Hardware so simple, yet when I actually look at it and start to do something I feel so dumb and just lost on what to do? I just want to add a 2nd SSD for more memory but I am terrified of breaking something or buying something that isn't compatible.
That's a you problem.
That's because these people are experts in their field who had a lot of practice. That's all you need to become comfortable with PC stuff. I once was very newbie to this too.
Great video, Adam.
This was clear and very helpful, thank you!
Thanks! Nothing like learning on the fly!
3:28 there's no need to use pliers, it's got a cross indentation to accept phillips screwdrivers. Pliers can damage the screw standoff and void your warranty if you're heavy-handed and rush things.
This guy needs pliers to open his Soylent too, so it's ok.
Thank you for a great video. I have an old desktop PC, could you please tell me how to choose between a M.2 SSD and a 2.5 " SATA SSD ? Thank you .
Thank you so much, I called ASUS support for my ROG Strix and they were unhelpful. This was straightforward and clear, much appreciated
Thanks this helped me a lot 👏
What a great explanation video!! Thanks!😊
I really love how you are usung the exact same motherboard as my pc 😀 also really good video
clear and simple. Good video
Sweet, I'm fully prepared now, thanks
Thank you so much very descriptive helped me get my new ssd in
I feel like I’m going into battle trying to do this assignment 😂
Awesome super helpful tutorial! I just installed a new nvme ssd into my computer into a slot i didn't even know i had! (Because it was behind a heat shield) AWESOME!!!!!
Thank you for a great tutorial
I am mad that this dude wasn't my computer science teacher , this guy really gives the students favorite teacher vibes
Great video! I am looking up parts for a new PC since I built this when Ryzen first came out. I'm running a Ryzen 5 1600.....I sorely need to upgrade. I didn't know M.2 drives dropped drastically in price, I will definitely do that instead of another Sata SSD.
great video ! thanks a lot !
Excellent. Thank You!
Best how to...easy... all bases covered
Thank you, great job
Excellent video !
This video feels like a flight crews guidance on fastening seat belts and prepare for takeoff.
Excellent guide
im trying to upgrade to 1tb but i havent bought anything yet because in the manual there isnt anything about storage slots and if i for example have a 500gb ssd can i put a second 1tb so i get 1.5tb storage? and last question is buying SATA or an M.2 better?
Should i take out my old ssd hard drive when installing the new one?
Question, what brands are the best for these SSDs? I want one that is at a cheap price
Thank you brother!
What if I don't see the ssd when I do this? Everything is secure and in place
I sure wish my manual was as helpful as yours
Leaving a comment bc this is a very detailed video may algorith the algorithm god bless u
Thank you for the video
Great tutorial
i have a question, if u have your ssd holder on the left, can u flip it upside down, and will it still work, because thats how it is with my pc
Lawllllll I've had my 2.5 ssd in my pc for about 4 years and I thought it just didn't work. I was about to order a new ssd for more space and while reaserching I found this video. Guess you just saved me $100 haha I've just been using my M.2 ssd
My pc don’t show signal once the SSD is in when I take it out it works, am I doing something wrong
hey what is the motherboard serial number you used? it looks good for gaming
❤️ thank you thank you !!!!
In my motherboard manual it says ,,. Please note that an M.2 PCIe SSD cannot be used to create a RAID set either with an M.2 SATA
SSD or a SATA hard drive. To create a RAID array with an M.2 PCIe SSD, you must set up the configuration in
UEFI BIOS mode''. What does it mean exactly ?
Thanks for the video, I am going to have to change out my SSD since there are corrupt files.
So if I add a SSD to my pc, will my maps in game servers load a lot faster having this and a HDD?
incredible how easy it is to understand. You deserve Millions of subscribers.
very helpful
I built my pc several years ago with a small 2.5 inch ssd and a hard drive. The hard drive is failing so i need to put in a new one so i am upgrading that drive to a 4tb 2.5 ssd but i am unsure of the steps.
Why does it have to lay flat? I don’t have the screws to keep my ssd down.
Thank you so much
Thank you
Hi I’ve bought pc already m.2 SSD installed with windows 10 on it but it doesn’t show my own SSD that’s attached with sata cable ? It shows in disk management but as Disk 0 but it doesn’t show as unallocated or hidden, might be mine SSD is windows 11, any guide or help ?
If I install an m.2 SSD do I need to install any software or will I instantly have access to the storage after booting the PC up?
I used to have a subscription to PC World and loved it! One of these days I would hope I could subscribe again, I been out of the loop for too long, not knowing the new computer technology that has come out and information on the newer operating systems after Windows 8.1, I hope one day I could get up to date again! Have A Great Day and Night Everyone! 🤔🤔🤔
@@pcworld That is alright! I need to get back into the know again!
Ty so much.
This scenario would have been better if you showed how to an SSD into a PC with a Hard Drive & portray the Software Download & File Transfer.
Definitely need to open the pc panel first haha
When I install the drive do I have to install windows cuz I had a hardrive failure n I got the Samsung 870 evo
Thank You!
im just asking if i have already a 2.5inch SATA ssd(500gb) installed on my pc but i want to add an m.2 ssd (5OOgb too) on my 1 m2 slot motherboard what am i supposed to do? just install the m.2 and format it???
So uh, what do you do if neither the case or box has the screw?
What is the size of the standoff screw? I need a replacement.
I have a corsair rm 850 that seems to not have a power supply for my ssd. I have tried looking online for a adapter but with no luck can anyone help please?
Does this apply to all ssd’s?
Hi, I wanted to ask what the dimensions of the screws and standoffs are? I have to get at least one of each, but I can't find those exact looking ones, but I figure if they have the same dimensions it should work...?
I had this question too. Hope someone answers it someday
thank you
Would I able to use my western digital SSD in my PS5 and put it in my PC?
Hmmm.. My Motherboard definitely had a shield, but I still screwed my SSD in and I never thought to look for a sticker. Did I do something bad? This will have been a couple of years ago now
Question with m.2 ssds, do they need to be formated?
Ummm where do I get the screw from? Mine screws in but the entire thing comes out as one piece. So it doesn’t sit straight
Thanks 💪👍
thanks man
Thank yew Dr. PCworld
I have an m.2_2 slot available, what ssd's are compatible with it
Should you take your motherboard out to install the m.2?
I know nothing about computers but I think maybe my SSD ded, doesnt do anything but have a date and time screen, never advances from there, and no I didnt do back up, so if I buy a new SSD and just stick it in there should it work? I guess I make a boot disk with Windows 11
I’m not a tech person but is that all the steps, just plugging it in? Do you have to do anything to the software like installing it for it to work correctly.
Solid tutorial still🤗
So I built my pc without an ssd. Then I added one later. Do I have to redownload windows onto the ssd?
So happy it works for yall but my screw just ain't unscrewin...
Thanks very much! lol Even better, just so happens I bought this SATA SSD hehe, very helpful video. I'll let you know how it goes, only thing I've ever done is adding RAM heh
The screw in my shield isn't long enough to get to the screw hole when the ssd is in the slot
Perfect video
Didn’t work I get a blue screen with error telling me there’s no drive connected or can’t access even though in bios it shows up
It's Also available the P31 slot in laptops?
What if i dont have one of those shield things, am i just good?
You forgot to mention where to plug in the sata power cable! where does it go?
Do I need both drives for the installation to work? I only have the 2.5 inch SATA SSD drive. Do I need the M.2 as well?
no
The m2 is a separate drive.
Does the SSD drive faster to video edit? Or is it just fast for pulling storaged data?
BOTH!
