Illegal 3000W 72V E-Bike Build Conversion Kit

  • Putting together a 3000W rear hub drive electric bike. 16AH 72V battery. It is illegal to use on public roads in most countries. This one will be used off road only. The most important part of this build is the custom torque arms. With this much power, the small torque arms can snap the dropouts on this frame that was never designed to have power put through it like this at 11:17. From stop, if you twist it to 1/4 throttle or more, the bike will pop the front wheel up and flip you over. It is very unsafe, I wouldn't recommend doing this build to anyone, it just doesn't make sense.

    I put basically the same motor on a stealth type frame in 2021 (3000w) and I love it. It's my daily driver...weather permitting. The frame is quite heavy of course but I decided to go for something that absolutely wouldn't fatigue over time. I wish more people could experience how much fun these big motors are, thanks for posting.

    Nice video! I used UPP cell batteries on my ebike and atv, and they are extremely well built as seen in tear-downs. Highlighy recommended. They make universal tq arms I show in my bike video. Yours are gnarly, and in a good way- should have room to grow with that setup; thank you!

UPP , in my experience, uses better BMCs, double solder points on cells, and they're internal wiring further showcases their workmanship. Others I've purchased have came w wrong power supply, have shody wiring or BMC failed. And even more I've purchased were actually UPP batteries rebranded. I have a 1500W/52V kit (does about 1750W fully charged), you're gonna need at least 1 torque arm, or it might spin out of the fork at full power...perhaps not directly, but certainly over the months. I haven't removed my wheel in 2 years since I built it
      If you're gonna use regen braking, you might even need two torque arms, as the force applied reverses when braking.

    Yes friendly advice you can't stick pieces of metal on top of weak metal and claim that is strengthened it because it won't what you've done without sounding rude is you bogged it what you should really do is cut the whole part out and put in stronger metal you're basically Dublin the speed of the bike but you're not doubling the strength of the frame to carry that and you will pay the consequences because you'll start cracking Worlds stability at high speeds my device is cut the whole back part out and easy peasy to world of fresh bit in you can weld it wider to fit the wheel in and you can weld it stronger which will last and will be a solid piece of metal always always uses less metal as possible because that's where your strength comes not by putting one piece on top of another piece unless it runs down the whole length of the frame good luck don't gamble your life on I'm sure that'll be alright

    Why do people use disc brakes on bikes?? Doesnt the v-brake have way more stopping force because it is farthest from the center of the rotation? This is just basic physics. Or do people get discs for vanity?

    • @porkercon
      @porkercon  Před 5 měsíci

      Rim brakes are good yes, discs allow you to have a more predictable braking surface, better modulation, better pad material that you can't use on rim brakes. Way to many reasons to go disc when the only reason to go with rim is the distance from centre of rotation.

    • @miket.220
      @miket.220 Před 3 měsíci

      Biggest advantage would be if he installed hydraulic brakes. Mech disk brakes are about the same stopping power as good v-brakes, but the disks do work a little better under certain conditions, like if the rim gets wet.

      @JamesBiggar Před 29 dny

      V brakes are fine for pedal bikes. Leverage isn't the only factor to consider. Pad surface area and cooling play as much if not more of a role in terms of stopping power. That's why you don't see v brakes on motorcycles. You won't even see them on manufactured e-bikes unless they're cheap or underpowered. That little thin strip of rubber operated by cables is not sufficient enough when you add a 30lb+ motor serving as an unsprung flywheel outputting 10 times as much power as your legs can do. V brakes are designed for leg power, pedal bike weight and speed. Disc brakes are designed for high speed performance on a motorcycle or downhill racing mtb. A good set of hydraulic disc brakes vs v brakes is like the difference between night and day on an e-bike this size.

      It's rated for the motor. 120A = >8500 watts. That motor might handle it in very short bursts, but otherwise pointless for a pedal assist e-bike, if not stupid. His legs would never keep up. Nor would his tires. Mtb tires and rims aren't built for that kind of power and speed. I twisted the sidewalls out of my Maxxis with a 3kW hub motor in less than 100km. They're not DOT certified for motorcycle power/speed for a reason.

    I never understand why people say things like “1000w , 3000w, 5000w ebike” as if that’s what type of power they are pushing.
    These numbers are the potential power if you have that type of power to send to it.
    Yes 72v at 24ah could produce 1728w. But that controller and the thin gauge wire would never push higher than 200w. And if your battery has a BMS, it is definitively limiting you to around 10a max All this before it hits the controller.
    That controller is limiting your actual power. Without a doubt.
    A real 1000w to the hub motor light bike frame wouldn’t be able to lock a tire on the pavement.
    At 200w you should be able to pull 70. At 1000w you should be over a hundred.

    • @porkercon
      @porkercon  Před 10 měsíci

      Blame the people selling them as that. 350w motors are garbage and go slow. A "1500w" motor we have on a bike gets really really hot when using it, I wouldn't want to imagine what it would do if it was truly getting 1500w.

    • @JohnDoe-ht5vq
      @JohnDoe-ht5vq Před 10 měsíci

      Companies mark these Hub motors as 1500w or what ever wattage because they are "capable" of reaching that threshhold. But the question is always, for how long? 5-10 seconds at max? and then they need to cool down.
      I mean, I doubt people are going full throttle to the wall every second they drive but still...@@porkercon

    • @speedsterh
      @speedsterh Před 10 měsíci

      "72v at 24ah could produce 1728w"
      Nope this means the battery has a capacity of 1728 Wh. It has to do with range not power.
      The amperage of that FAT battery is much more than 24 amps (probably at least 80 amps).
      I think the battery and this motor are a good match.

    • @JohnDoe-ht5vq
      @JohnDoe-ht5vq Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@speedsterh If we are assuming this is a real 3000w motor, then it would need 42a to reach its potential energy.
      Looking at the bike, wiring, even from the motor to the controller, its way too thin guaged to handle that power. It would over heat, short, melt in moments....
      My theory is that yes, the motor "could" be 3000w, but that controller is severely limiting its power to the motor.
      This is also assuming that battery is capable of discharging 42a without over heating or having some sort of thermal disaster. There would need to be a BMS system to deal with these issues. But this bike has a "dumb" battery.
      Therefore, my grief is when companies put inferior parts on a bike, but then say "oh its 3000w because the motor is 3000w" but then battery, wiring, controller are only capable of lets say 1000w...
      It's a scam. super scummy.
