    I've been watching and trying tutorials for a month now as a very beginner and giving up 5 minutes. No matter how I tried my paint was not looking anything like the video. Then I found your how to load your brushes video and suddenly I could paint a normal looking "swipe". In this desert sunset tutorial you not just say pick up this color paint here, but you explain how much paint, why and how much pressure on the brush. This is "life changing"!!! I can do this! Now that I know what i'm supposed to be doing. Your is the only video out of literally hundreds I've watched on youtube that does this. Thank you so so much!!! I am self taught in many types of art and I didn't want give up on acrylics!

    This reminds me of a sunset I took a picture of the other day. At the tree line it was a really bright blue (maybe a really bright turquoise), the brightest sky blue I've ever seen. The many photographs I took didn't do it justice. Maybe it wasn't as bright as I thought, but wow It was gorgeous with the sun hitting the streaks of clouds above the blue. It was similar to your painting, but no yellow at the tree line. The sun wasn't over the tree tops anymore, so the blue of the sky stood out the most. I dunno, to me it was special lol

My question is this: when you put paint down, you seem to use very little paint but it goes on so smoothly and seems to go a long way. Do you add Flow-Aid or anything to the paint or do you prep the canvas with anything? My attempts to copy your techniques are so frustrating because my paint doesn't go far at all. I LOVE your Desert Sky, such beautiful colors.Your using a canvas pad, do you remove the canvas from the pad, or do you keep it attached. The canvas is so flimsy that I imagine it would be hard to paint on it. Or can the canvas sheet be attached to something else? I have one and don't know how to use it.

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  Před 4 lety

      I usually leave it attached. The canvas pad's backing board is quite thick and strong. If I need a little extra strength, I just place a regular canvas on my easel behind it :)

      @PaintingwithJane  Před 4 lety

      Thank you so much, Joyce! No, not usually. In a painting like this, I'm not worried about blending or not. If it does, it does. If it doesn't, it doesn't :)

  • @walterpaquette7613
    @walterpaquette7613 Před 4 lety

    I love the painting, however I am on a limited budget for this hobby and find that "heavy body" paints (like Indanthrene Blue) are 4 times more than what I've been paying for paints that work fine for me. I've been using Liquitex Basics for a long time and the paintings come out nice.

  • @kathleentownsend1404
    @kathleentownsend1404 Před 3 lety

    Thank you for this lovely painting! I started working on it but realize I covered up too much of the blue in the sky, now I feel like I need to add some back but everything’s dry and I’m concerned about the blending issue. Would you suggest I just paint the sky over completely and redo the first layer of dark clouds?

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  Před 3 lety +1

      The wonderful thing about acrylic paint is that you can always paint over something you don't like just be patient and work in layers. Don't try to obliterate things in one thick layer, because it will be really hard to blend that transition. Just a little bit at a time. You'll probably find that you needed to cover up less than you think! Thank you 💛

    Indathrene blue Dont have have it. It looks like a purplish blue. Have other blues and dioxazine. Any suggestions on what to mix to look like it?

      Indanthrene is a very dark, warm, highly pigmented blue. As far as I know, you can't mix it. But it really doesn't matter. Use any colors you have and like! There are no required colors in a sunset :)

    I am using this Fredrix canvas pad for first time. It is causing me much grief as it is warping as I am painting my picture. When it dries completely, it remains warped. Is there a secret to using these pads? Are you priming the canvas BEFORE you actually paint on it? I use sennelier abstract acrylic. Thanks for any advice

      It's warping?! I've never had it warp and I don't do anything to it before I start. Did you get the back wet? That would make it warp for sure.

      @@PaintingwithJane I have since tried priming the canvas sheets with either gesso or Goldens “GAC 100” and that seems to help with the warping and curling. Also, the back did not get water or wet. Maybe I will try to contact Fredrix customer service and see what they advise. Thank you for all the wonderful videos. Oh also, I previously used canvas pads from Arteza and did not have the problem at all.
