Staying in a Monastery

  • I am no stranger to staying in a Monastery. Before I went to seminary, I lived with the Carthusian Monks in Parkminster Monastery for one week and I have also visited a Cistercian Monastery.
    In this video I am living with the Benedictine monks of Pluscarden, Scotland. Their monastery is in North of Scotland, near Elgin. It is a great way to live their monastic way of life in silence with day to day work for the upkeep of the monastery as well as communal prayer, Gregorian chant, silence and solitude. It is an austere way of living. It is very spiritual and a great way for anyone to refresh themselves spiritually and mentally.
    I did not want to impose on the monks daily life and therefore I filmed what I did in my own time around the monastery. I was hoping to return and ask permission to film more when the monks are in communal prayer, chanting and also to film more of the hidden parts of the Monastery

    Wow, it looks so peaceful and tranquil, the complete opposite of today’s modern, fast paced, loud and busy lifestyle.
    Definitely looks like a great pace to re-charge your batteries and gather your thoughts.

      It’s amazing. All the more amazing when the monks chant. Life is a lot quieter in our society right now. We can use this time to bring good out of it. Get some silent reflection on life. Sometime out and relax. I will be doing this as I now work from home and self isolate

    Are there any books you would recommend for understanding in and believing in Catholicism?

    • @ProphecyPrepper
      @ProphecyPrepper  Před 3 lety

      The bible was the first thing that came to mind. Before the reformation there only was one church of Christ. Go back to the roots - which will be found in the bible.
      If you go to the bible start looking at those who can help with that.
      No.1 - Scott Hahn. He himself a biblical scholar who converted to the catholic faith. Books include: Rome sweet home and then lamb’s supper.
      Look up the catechism of the Catholic Church. It’s the fundamental truth of the faith.

    • @DualFrodo
      @DualFrodo Před 3 lety

      @@ProphecyPrepper I definitely need to read the Bible more. I have "The Creed", "Angels and Saints" and "Ordinary Work, Extraordinary Grace" from Scott Hahn, but have yet to read them as well! I'll tell you a brilliant Catechism that I've come across though, it's called "My Catholic Faith" printed by Sarto House. I'm working through it just now, and cannot recommend it enough.
      If you don't mind me asking, is there a point you can identify in your life where you definitely started to have faith? And if so, what exactly led you to that?

      @@ProphecyPrepper Just watching your testimony a second time and I have to say, it's some compelling stuff. I think I may try finding a Eucharistic adoration somewhere based on what you said about it (but obviously that may be a bit difficult at the moment). The silent, sincere prayer seems to be something I'm overlooking or not understanding very well. I've been thinking about religious life like the Friars, Benedictines or Parish life but that's jumping the gun when I still have to experience genuine prayer, especially when you explain that such commitments are more complicated and fraught than they appear at first.

    I love Nature in All its Glory. How does that fit with silence and religious man-made dogma’s?

    • @ProphecyPrepper
      @ProphecyPrepper  Před 3 lety +1

      Such ignorance. Nature in itself is silent. Every blade of grass that grows to the slow blossoming of new flowers every year. It doesn’t fit with silence, I’d say it is part of silence.
      Religious man made dogmas? Taking into account the ancient Greeks such as Aristotle who looked at nature to help him discern ‘the one’ and Plato who took nature as a reflection of the heavens above, it’s clear man has in his being, a longing for the one whom we call God who created all. Then finally God came to us. Do you know what it takes before a dogmas is given by the church?

      "Religion has done more harm than good to men". Lol. Never heard of atheists starting the University System. The Catholic Church did. Atheists never preserved the knowledge and wisdom of the classical world after the fall of Rome. The Catholic Church did. Atheists did no start the hospital system. The Catholic Church did. Atheists did not spend their lives bent over copying manuscripts to spread knowledge. The Catholic Church did. Many of the greatest scientists were Catholic. A lot of the craters of the Moon were named after Jesuits. Religious wars were only 8% of all documented conflicts on earth, more wars were fought because of politics. That silence and peace in the monastery was due to nature AND the life of the men that lived there. Replace those monks with atheists and theyd probably tear the place down and build a mall.
