"They're all used flies" 😂🤣 That closing made for a good laugh. Great insight on this, excited to use some of those follow-up retrieves and techniques the next time I turn a big one but don't get the eat. Thanks again Kelly!

What’s the point of tube flys? Are there any pros over tying on a hook?

Buddy how much time do you have because I have about sixty reasons to explain why they have their benefits

I am new to fly fishing, I used to be a dreaded spin fisherman, with age comes wisdom. I think that I have watched almost every one of your video, and all are very informative. I have gone from fishing small farm streams in the Midwest(MN) to fishing medium size tail waters I have a #7 wt. with wt. fwd floating line. I have been fishing bead head nymphs and wooly buggers. not much dry flies. I have also started to tie some. I bought a Renzetti rotary that seems to work pretty good. been doing a few buggers and easy zebra midges. I want to expand and tie some pheasant tails and princes and maybe even some soft hackle flies. Oh and yes I seen your Drop shotting method that I plan on trying if I don't get to tangled up with it. SO Question is would you but couple pheasant tails. like the full rump or would you go with a whole pheasant skin. I guess I should buy a couple chicken saddles also. I do all my fishing wading right now. Not too sure how good streamers would work with the all purpose wt forward floating line. I have seen wire leaders on ebay. are they work thile or would they just be a headache?

In case Kelly doesn't make it to this I could help, although clearly I'm no Kelly Galloup, I have been around the block so to speak. For the phesant tails just start out with a couple tail feathers instead of the whole hide. If you need dry hackle maybe start with a bronze rated grizzly half cape, and a bronze rated brown half cape; you'll be able to tie like 90% of dry fly patterns with these two colors. Even the bronze rated hackles from whiting are excellent quality with excellent barb density. For soft hackles i would recommend getting a full Hungarian partridge cape; you will use these feathers for so many patterns it'll make your head spin. I got one for 24 dollars at the fly fishing show and I may have feathers for the rest of my life, and believe me, I tie a LOT of flies, more than ill ever come close to using. A weight forward floating line on your 7 wt rod is excellent for streamer fishing, probably too heavy for dry fly fishing and too heavy for finesse nymphing but I guarantee you can still pull it off, you just won't get delicate presentations. They make a sink tip leader, which I believe is tungsten-coated monofilament, they come in different lengths and sink rates, try a 7 foot medium sink rate first id say, tie maybe 3 feet of strong mono to the end of this to your fly as your leader and it will help sibk your streamer and keep it in the strike zone longer. Floating line will always pull your streamer up in the water column as you strip it or as your line straightens out at the end of a drift so mends after a cast will help keep the fly down as well. The sink tip strramer leader is very affordable and essentially transforms your floating line into a sink tip.
"Hoped you learned something, hope this helps ya out."

do you use a journal to target big fish or just your knowledge of the river when you fish?

I used a journal for decades but now it is more memory, however I always have a note pad with me, more for fly ideas but always helps with locations too. KG
