"You can do the whole swap from the junkyard for less than $1000 but not if you're going to be a wiener about using parts from the junkyard." I love this sentiment. Thanks JR for the laugh and info as always.
Mods! Somebody ban this JR guy. The driveway Engineer said no LS content in August....😂
Very impressive, as always… Every setback I have had on my LS project has been because I did something that you cautioned against lol.. But the end result will still be an inexpensive truck because of you and your advice. Thanks for all the great content!
Big fan and have been using you as the beacon for this game. Some truths I have learned from this channel:
1-"If it spins, it wins". Don't rebuild engines or swap cams or do intakes unless that is your desired hobby.
2-4l60 gearboxes are great for as long as they last. Lotta them with a lotta miles, so just buy and roll
3-OEM ECM for the win. Holley puts you in no-man's land if you don't know what you are doing and if you knew what you were doing already, you would not be watching this channel. Stock tune on a stock engine is the way to do the first swap.
4-If you want a "sloppy cam" do it AFTER the engine is in and running. Probably decide to save the $$$.
5-Get a wideband O2 sensor plugged into the OEM ECM on the EGR input. Game changer. ( not sure if I learned this here ?)
Thanks for taking the time to make these vids for us.
Pin 55 on the blue connector if im not mistaken for the 5v AFR input. Then just log the EGR position PID right?
I wouldnt use a 4l60 if it was free. Sell that shit and get a turbo400 or 80e.
If you can't figure out the Holley, you sure as hell aren't figuring out a factory ecu. Terminator x is simple and just works. Factory is definitely cheaper though.
Doing a cam out of the car is a hell of a lot better than in it. Especially if it needs springs. Then you're pulling heads IN THE VEHICLE, or pulling the motor back out. If it's a truck, not so bad. Still not fun.
Do as you please, but I'm happy to save up money BEFORE starting the project and do some things right the first time.
@ShadowsOfGames you don't have to pull the heads to do springs. Pressurize the cylinders with an air compressor or stuff a shit ton of paracord into the spark plug hole and you'll stop the valve from opening. Then just get a valve spring tool on it and swap springs, get the keepers and retainer on and move on to the next one. Tedious but beats pulling heads.
FanBoi...
I started watching videos on CZcams on ls swaps did lots of research ram into this channel, went and bought a running doner for $500 did my swap in a weekend and been doing burnouts since last August 😂😂😂 ! Thank you JR
I'm so glad to hear that, this is my favorite kind of story, congratulations!
For The Win!
@@dtpoirot It really was easy after watching JR’s videos. I got me a 2002 Flex fuel Yukon with a 4L60 RWD, took it off and planted on my 2001 S10 followed JR’s video on the harness and like I said! Been doing burnouts for a year now. Next project is adding a 4L80 that I got and a turbo.
Your videos are awesome. Don’t worry about boredom with LS. You will always get views from me and many other fans.
Can we get a T-shirt with “if it spins it wins” and “go do burnouts” on it? You’ve pretty much convinced me to drop one of these engines in my 68 Mustang. Would fit better than anything Ford has out there.
I love your video, and love your commentary. Down to earth with no BS! Keep it up and thanks!
Love these videos JR. I watch all of these, repeatedly.
Great video! I love the simplicity!
Agree completely. Just finished a '88 S10 with a '04 LM7 and a Turbo 700r4. Got just the long block for a "C" note, a rough Edelbrock carb manifold off Ebay for $200, mounted a rebuilt Holley 650 TA I had, and a MSD 6LS box. One of the few new pieces I bought. Installed a pressure regulator with return to the stock lines and cut off the factory exhaust manifold outlets, tucked, reclocked and welded them back in place. Fabbed up a 2.25" into 3" wye pipe with a single welded Summit 3" muffler ($40). F Body fan and radiator from the yard and was rolling for just over $1200. The stock rear is holding up just fine with a Yukon cover and the fun factor is off the scale. Marketplace is great for wheels and tires cheap and I sold the complete V6 engine and trans for $500. I know I had more fun doing that then my LS1 swapped and chopped '68 C10 with long tubes, cam and a complete Fitech Ultimate LS kit on it. I did the whole S10 for much less than the price of the Fitech kit alone.
Update: 10/18/23. Just picked up a Gen 4 LY2 4.8 out of a 2009 Silverado, 110k and clean inside from a guy that bought it to take it apart to learn. Lost interest and I traded an old MSD 6A ignition box for it I had sitting around off a old project. (Marketplace again) Nice part besides being basically free was not only that it was perfect inside but it didn't have AFM so the valley was open, no delete kit needed and it had a TBSS intake with it. I'll sell that for $250 easy. Cheap LS's are out there and yes, you don't need all the goodies, just a long block. I put a BW T5 (World Class) trans behind it I had sitting around with a cheap flywheel and a hydraulic throwout bearing from Powertrain Products. I will run a carb on this one also. Now just to find a cheap Mazda Miata to swap it into.
Thank you for sharing JR as always good content. My c10 ls swap been running/driving for a year thanks to your videos 👍🏼👍🏼💯
Great to hear!
GREATNESS!! Followed most of your tips to get our swap done. Merch purchased and worn in support of. Stay COOL up there. 🏁
I love and appreciate the content but the music makes it extremely difficult to hear you.
I can understand that the LS content is getting tiresome for you, on the same hand, that's what brought me here. I enjoy all your content. Especially now your diesel content. I really love your low buck approach
This is such a great video. Thanks for the content.
Ya vids helped me do my swap and I got a rowdy setup now I gotta finish the wiring now
Your a legend brother thanks for keeping it simple dont let other peoples stupidity stress ya out
Hey man I know it probably gets boring but remember how much you have saved and helped people. To he' ll with the keyboard mechanics that say all the crap and steer people wrong. I can thank you for my progress and choices. 80 elco 06 5.3/4l80e.
Once again, JR is off the chain. GREAT video. Super helpful. 10/10
...but I can't see any good doners from the sofa!!!
Have a 5.3 and a Tx going in a 1990 z71 chevy with a turbski. A 4.8 going in a 91 stepside with stock ECU. love your vids.
Huge thanks to you man. My 6.0 4l80e monte has been running smoothly. Looking at improving the swap now. Maybe make it a little faster. or Learn how to flash tune for a cam.
JR! Love your channel and ALL the content.. The music in this video was killin me! I had to mute sound and put the captions on. My suggestion is music is either not necessary, or if you MUST- put it waaaay in the background. I like hearing YOU. Keep doing what you do with the content, channel. Rock n’ ROLL!!!
I got my ls swapped fairlane running a couple months ago did it cheap. It’s not fast or quick but runs which is way more fun than something that doesn’t run.
JR youre just the best bud.
Love the straight forward no bullshit
Here in the U.P. I just buy the entire rusty truck for $500 or less, then I get everything with it. My C10s are getting 6.0s, I won't mess with an sbc in my truck at this point. Not much for junkyards here, I get them before they go in the yard.
Yep! Thanks!
Hey JR been listening to and watching your videos for a while should have been subscribed also thanks for the knowledge that you are sharing helped me out a lot I do have a question. Using a stage 1 cam and springs will it need a Tune or can I just put it in and go Motor cam out of 2000 Tahoe 5.3 DBC
Really inspired by your content to go get a LQ4/LQ9 and put it in my 89 K5 Blazer. My one question is: "Do I need to get new motor mounts or can I use the same ones that mounted my 350?"
Thanks for keeping this stuff simple!
Dont even bother looking for an lq9. Youll drive yourself crazy. They get pulled right away lol
The Karate kid sound track. I love it!!!!! Your the best around!!!
@@thomasbedford1692 thanks friend. I just didn't know if I could stay with the stock mounts or required new ones. I looked up the cheap ebay mounts and will probably go with that. Appreciate it!
Jr,I have one vortec 5.7 with 165 on the clock, and one with 306 on the clock,I would drive either one through hell ,and out the other side.
There are definitely some buy once cry once things
i spent alot more for extras, but my result is pretty good.
U the man... Jr
keep it up
“So fuckin’ what. Send that shit.”
Need a monthly “JR roasts LS forum comments” video series
I'm not even in one LS group or forum anymore.
Much happier life for me
@@TheDrivewayEngineer I feels, do you big dog
im at the point where if i need a part for a ls engine i go to the junk yard just sourced a couple piston rod assemblies and rockers for an engine i needed a couple things for
Right, just walk around, you'll find it lol
What’s the low Buck high stall converter option for a 4l60e. Can I do something new for under 4-500 bucks ?
Morning, newer subscriber here. I've almost watched all your videos over the past 2 days and have learned a lot, thanks. I do have 1 question about bypassing VATS. Is there any truth to the keeping the accessories on for 10 min 3 times and than unplugging the body control module to bypass VATS? Thanks
Yes, I've seen people successfully bypass it that way.
I been learning to tune and needless to say my suburban is rowdy I wish it had a 4l80
I subscribed because I can't find a ford engine for my truck.i wanna know how you hook up an ls..I can drop in any engine but I have no idea about wiring
Here in cali they charge you every part on the motor
I never know about the trucks I see at the junkyard with no body damage I immediately think the engine or trans is blown
Thanks!
Wow, thank you!
@@TheDrivewayEngineer really enjoy your videos. Your way of doing things has changed my whole perspective. And generally hilarious.
All engines I bought (3 6.0, 3 5.3, and 1 4.8 all for less than $500 off of buttfacebook market place. One of the 6.0's I paid $700 but its the whole 2003 denalit, trans is fubar but I always swap to El Manuel.
I have so many questions I’m in Michigan I’m doing a swap into a 2nd gen dodge
I wanna LS swap a s10 but man the clearance issues suck
I wanna put a 5.3 in a 1986 c30 dually
Luckys is awesome.
👍💪
Will stock rods hold up, or should they be upgraded? Machine shop told me they are the weak link
Brother JR said stay out of the machine shop!
You are going to go blind!
While they technically are the weak link, stock rods will still survive pushing 4 digits-Holdener had to push 28 psi of boost on his big bang motor to lose one. You'll be just fine as long as the bearings are not blown out to begin with
Hey when swapping a 72 Chevelle with original harness and ls swap do you know what wires I need for the starter? I can’t find anything that has it specially laid out lol thanks in advance
Every GM from the beginning of time uses a purple wire from the firewall to trigger the starter
How far are you from Bay City? I'm about a mile and a half off 75 on Wilder rd,I'm building a 93 S10 2wd ext cab, hmu sometime
Im doing a low buck ls swap in my fox
I think I've been posting some good shit to that group.
You should do a video where you show step by step on how to pull a motor. Then people will have no excuses why they can't run a junkyard motor😂
I've done that.
The comments section is full of excuses
Dude im driving north from indy to your state. They want 300 for an engine no wiring no accessories no trans at the yards here
2:58 😂😂😂😂
Also i heard you went into buisness for yourself? Hows that going and what do you do
How is mpg compared to 5.7? I currently get 10.7 consistently 96 C2500 tbi 4L80
Never had a 5.7 in this truck.
Mpg is hard to track and I haven't really tried very hard to, but I did check one trip to and from work last summer and it was about 16.
For me, if mileage is a real concern, I'll just drive a car and get 30+
Good info but I can hardly hear you over the music.
ummm you dont need a tune with most stage one cams ? srry for the herpal type question
Need? No
Just send it lol…ya buddy…
they will come out of the wood work
If ya got your 6.0 for under 200 $ hat off too ya , Florida a little stingy everyone swears they know what they have haha
Here's a video of me in Florida in a yard full of LS engines for the taking. Including 6.0's
czcams.com/video/E3yAo3Jfolc/video.html
Great video but I found myself listening to halestorm and not you lol
I dunno what's up with the background music but it's too loud and distracting.
Those idiots buy once and never stop crying
Why did you feel the need to add music to the second half of the video? Can’t hear shit you’re saying so that’s when I stopped watching.
I'll miss you!
