I Bought My 1st Tractor!!

- Planting corn and soybeans in a timely manner is one of the biggest variables in harvesting a high yielding crop. This past spring, we had a wet spring that caused us to plant half of our corn acres and all of our bean acres late. This late planting caused a massive yield loss. Due to seeing these differences, we were highly motivated to purchase a bigger planting for planting season 2020. The only issue with us buying a bigger planting is that we did not have a tractor big enough to pull a 24 row planter. Now we were on a mission to buy a 24 row planter and a bigger MFWD tractor.
Right away we jumped on an auction that had a 24 row planter and a 340 horsepower MFWD tractor. Once we got to the auction we were disappointed in the overall condition of the equipment. Dad and I go over a few things we looked at on the planter and tractor to determine we were not interested. Once we left the auction, we headed three hours away to purchase a 24 row planter we looked at a few days prior.
A few days later we had another auction come up that had a very clean 2014 Case IH Magnum 340 with 1,000 hours on it. I did not film the auction due to it being so cold, but I did film the tractor once we got it home. After giving a quick run down on it, Dad and I washed the 1991 Case IH 7140, the new Magnum 340, and the 2005 Bobcat T-190. After getting things all settled in the shop, I give a quick tour of the new tractor.
Thank you for watching!

@17:05 Daddy Cronstar "We're gonna kill two stones with one bird." Never change Daddy Cornstar, never change...
I know, that really cracked me up!
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that
Since Cole didn’t do it this time.....Hey everybody you’re watching Cole the Cornstar! If you’re even slightly interested in farming or just want to watch a 22 year old farmer get some stuff done you’re in the right place! Don’t forget to like the video!
I like when Cole does a fresh intro each video instead of reusing past intros, even though I know it saves him time, which I respect!
Thanks Aaron!
CuriousEarthMan I agree.
Thanks
That cold open was awesome though.
Warsh. Love that. That is exactly how my Dad used to say Wash. He grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. Passed away last January. 91 years old
My aunt was from Nova Scotia, Canada, and she use to tell me to "warsh up" before dinner.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Rick in Oakville my grandfather is from N.S. and he says the same
Same as my Papa. Upstate NY.
Warsh is one of those word pronunciations that doesn't seem so much to be geographic.
I'm an IT guy, I don't know shit about farming, but hearing dad say "Warsh" was worth the watch. Congrats on the new purchases!
Yep, I agree :)
bloomberg sez heekin teecha... XD!
Come warsh up fer supper! That's how my uncles said it. Mom's parents were from Minnesota, and homesteaded in Saskatchewan.
The wisdom of Daddy Cornstar is... endless.

They buried me.
They threw dirt... in my face.

DC, the relationship you have with your children shows what kind of man you are. You are an amazing man , a diamond in the rough!!! It also shows in the way you take care of all your vehicles. How you guys make sure that every little detail is taken care of. On every piece of equipment you have. This tractor is huge but beautiful. I respect how you take care of things. Keeping everything in top notch order especially after harvest. All equipment is washed, filters changed, everything greased and sometimes even polished!!!!. Your continuous care for your equipment keeps them running for years and years. My parents taught us that you keep care of what you have and you'll have it a long time. Pretty much how you have taught Summer, Cole and Cooper. Great job Daddy Cornstar!!! 💯😃👍🙏
never farmed, enjoy nearly all things mechanical. always amazed at prices of farm machines. never seen any farmers around here take such good care of their equipment. great job.
I LOVE when you walk us through the thinking process for your business! Thank you.
Pure joy on Coles face to see you smile makes us all smile
Cole your Father tickles me and puts a smile on my face and you too. God bless you guys.
Um ok?
I remember watching my father-in-law combine corn (Colorado) on a tiny, cab-less combine back in the '70s. He worked into his 90s, and your dad reminds me so much of him! And that's a high compliment.

@@slickcrag.... Hi Craig, thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if you misunderstood my reply to Mrs. Hudson, Or... If I am misreading your reply to me, so just to clarify what I said in my reply to her comment.... what I said was he is NO "fool" at all, in contrast to what sounded "like" in her comment that he "isn't a COMPLETE fool".... which "seemed" to imply exactly what she said that he was not a COMPLETE Fool... but is.... somewhat.

Daddy corn star, true story. So my Dad was real sick he needed a double lung transplant, he lived really far from the hospital where he would have the transplant, I lived about 30 mins from it, so he came to live with me while he was on the waiting list. I helped him with all his personal care, the first month he was with me I was shaving him and I said " Dad I'm just gonna clean up your eye brows too, ok? " he says " yup, if you reckon then need it", I said, "oh yeah...It's needed." So we get to talkin then all of a sudden I said " ought. Oh" .Dad says " well know, I reckon that's not a good "ought oh, now is it?" ...I said, "well, that all depends on how you look at it" ...He says , " well hand me that mirror, might as well see what we're dealin with "...so, I hand him a mirror. He looks everything all over and says " well...ya can't leave it like that, you best make the other one match"...I said " Dad! I'm NOT shaving half the other eyebrow off also! "...He said, " oh yes you are, now you created this mess, you're gonna fix it! Get ta shavin"...so I did. My very frail and very sick Dad looked mighty shocked, or in a perpetual state of "awe" with both eyebrows clean shaven off right to the mid point!. Every day I had to take him to his physio at the hospital, the first day he went with the new eye brows. , he was just chompin at the bit when I came to pick him up. I get his gear ready and I'm wheelin him down the hall and he starts telling me about what happened at " exercise class" ...He says " as soon as the nurses saw my new eyebrows they all came right over to ask me who did them ( I'm thinking oh Lord), then he says " yup...I was the talk of the group today.". We get all piled into the car, wheel chair, oxygen tank, Walker and backpack stowed away, we pull out of the hospital parking lot and he looks at me and says " you suppose there's anything else you can shave off tonight before we go to exercise class again?". I just about died. I responded emphatically " no"...I will not be shaving all your eye brows, or your head, or your arms or anything else off so that you can be the talk of the class!" ...we had a long 6 mo nth wait, and after his transplant we had some hard times also, but I'll tell ya, that eyebrow story made us both crack up, every single time.
Sorry for the long story, but when you talked about the shaven eye brow, I knew I had to share our story :)
makeuplover 68 😂 that's priceless!
Definately the good stuff! Memories + laugher = GOOD MEDICINE.
Blessings to you and your father ♡♡
@@delovelydeb1 , thank you Debra. He passed away about a year after his transplant, he's been gone 14 years now. I cherish the memories we made during that very difficult time. I am so thankful I lived close to the hospital and he came to live with me. His birthday is today, Dec. 18th, he would have been 78.
You and your family show such common sense and practicality. Take care of your equipment and it takes care of you. Congrats on the Magnum and look forward to seeing a speedy spring planting!
This video is worth watching again and again because of Cole's excitement and joy!
Cole, it costs money to make money. Investing in your farm when a deal comes along will show profits fast. If you're able to yield 40-50 bu per acre more by early planting and harvesting, it's a win-win.
While you've got the new Case IH 340 in the shop, rotate the tires. Normalize the tire wear. Since you estimate putting 300-350 hours a year on the tractor, purchase DEF by the case instead of the IBC tote. DEF goes bad, usually a 18 month shelf life.
Gunga Dinn good to know. Thank you!
And wash off any spilled DEF ASAP. Stuff is nasty.
@@joelmiller2504 Absolutely..I drove a 2015 Volvo with a D13...that Def can make a mess. If I had a spill(tere), I would go to Blue Beacon and get er washed asap.
Make 100% sure you don’t put Def in the diesel fuel. Have to purchase a new fuel system, well over a 10k bill. Def also freezes at 12* for a fun fact

Maybe daddy corn star is hitting the holiday sauce a bit early.
Daddy Cornstar said "Warsh!" My grandmother said that all her life!! She was born in St. Charles, so I felt very at home just now!. Thanks for sharing your lives with all of us.
So true! It's rare to hear a young farmer who speaks with so much experience. I especially enjoyed the presentation in which he explained the massive equity losses farmers have been suffering the past several consecutive years. I farm in SD, west of the border with Iowa, and am a first generation farmer. My area is in the third consecutive year of excessive rainfall that has been resulting in many fields not being planted, with the fields that were planted often not planted until late June. What Cole said about the benefits of early planting are spot on accurate. Real world economic conditions in farming do not allow non-multi-generation farmers the luxury of experimenting with latest-technology farm machinery. So it's a real treat to hear this young farmer lay it on the line.
Looks like the Cornstar family is having a "Red"Christmas this year. Congrats on your new equipment.
Time to get a bigger grain cart for the case 340
Yeah and a Iowa State Cyclones sweat shirt
Go clones
It may just be me, but listening to Cole renews my faith in the next generation. Now if the rest of them could be as smart, pragmatic, and disciplined.
The telling comment was when Cole said he doesn't play video games.
Head5959 thank you 😇
Head5959 he is definitely wise beyond his years:)
My grandfather was a farmer outside of Des Moines his whole life. I remember going to cattle auctions with him as a kid. I love the auctioneer chants as well! There is something both exciting and nostalgic at the same time. Haha!
Well, COle, You have yourself a new toy. Glad to see that you love to take care of your equipment and make good choices when purchasing used equipment. You have a good head for business. You are such a help toy our Dad and the farms.
Congratulations on the new equipment can't wait to see them out in the field
I was shocked daddy CS didn’t get one of those augers 😂 I’m lovin this video with daddy & Cole working together, I’m ready for planting season. Stay safe and keep those front teeth. Tornadoes 🌪 here tonight so prayers are welcome 🙏 i love you Cornstar family that includes Hneiva and Anna 🐶

Congratulations on your new purchase. Glad to see you don’t suffer from green fever.
I love how you include many of the details of what y'all do everyday. I watch your vids all the time.........yes I'm 51 and play farming sim....
I don't know what it is its just nice to see how normal my life is sometimes. Y'all have breakdowns like me and it just seems like I've known y'all forever by now. God bless you and yours man.
Just think, in 25 years, your kid could be standing there with his new tractor and pointing to the Case IH 340 saying their daddy bought that before they were born.

Congrats on your new ‘baby’ ... may he (or she) serve you well for many years... really great to see your family’s excitement over your new equipment... well done Cole...
You Cornstars have eagle eyes when it comes to assessing used equipment at auction. No sneaking stuff past you!
So daddy cornstar had me laughing right off the bat!! What a hoot...
I'm looking forward to corn plenting time to see the new equipment in action.
Just found and started watching your channel this week. Love your attitude towards farming. I will say I've gotten to see the first hand problems of DEF. It is very nice to see you have put enough thought into what you wanted before you bought it to at least be able to come to a decision about whether or not it would be more beneficial to keep or delete the DEF system. You are absolutely correct. Most places are not willing to work on something that has any emissions system deleted as it could potentially come back to them since they are a certified service center.
That “ I like it.” was the most perfect Christmas morning happy I’ve ever seen!
That's exactly what I was thinking🤓🤓
Omg your farther is so funny like you one love guys love what you do
Cole I am so proud for you and family. It seems that your love for God has helped these things happen. Thanks for sharing
Happy for y’all!! A well deserved tool for a very hard working family!
Love to listen to auctioneer’s also. One of my favorites was a Merlin Woodruff he’d have 2 guys bidding and be asking between them yes err yes.
Congrats on the new to you equipment
I really thought you guys would have brought an augor home!!🤣
Adam Nobbe we actually did.. 😂
Second auction!
WAS GONNA SAY YA! WTF? No auger! but then I seen ya did, I feel better now
Hey Cole you are really a smart guy to be so young. I love how you have the patience to look for problems that you don't want to deal with instead of looking at the things you love about it. Finding things that you love can overcome the bad things and get you in a lot of trouble. Hey..... Daddy Cornstar you have done a great job on rasing some smart boys and girl of course, she is a cut above but boys are usually not as easy to raise. You and Mama Cornstar did a fantastic job...........
I think his degree in college was economics A wise choice

So stoked for you guys. Anything to improve operations is a good thing. Wish you all the luck with them!
Congrats! It's very nice to see people be able to grow and keep doing better then they were before.
Daddy Cornstar is a farmer. Sounded just like my grandpas. I got Cole coming and going, grew up in IA City as a Hawkeye fan, and am an Ok State Alum.
As a retiree of CASE, I love you guys :)
Good to see you all take pride in your equipment/investment. We bought several peaces of equipment and tractors at action. One tractor had an injection pump go bad shortly after we brought it home. But we had payed a really low price for it so it wasn't too bad. Congrats CornStar family! Looking forward to seeing it in the Field in the spring!
I found myself binge-watching your videos. You are one hard working young man!
Cant wait till planting season now the winter just got that much longer 😂😂 I'm very excited for you all n can't wait to see everything working in the fields together
Happy to see y'all doung good and growing. So many farmers are having such a hard time now. Happy to see a red tractor. Love the case magnums. The leather seats are very comfortable and swivel to the right a good bit to help w the neck
Congratulations, Cole on your new tractor. I hope it serves you well for a long time.
Cole: was watching junkyard Diggs the other day and you were on Kevin's Channel he said check you out so I did. Man to my surprise not only is the channel extremely interesting but there's also beautiful women. I am completely in love with that oh house please do not damage any of the Millwork after all it takes 118 years to make 118 year old farmhouse hahaha but the most thing I like about this channel is a man stands up in front of the world and give praise to God the Father this is my new channel I'm hooked God bless brother
Spring is going to be exciting on Cornstar Farms!
I’m glad You got a red one
So happy for your family with the new equipment!! Can't wait to see it in the fields!
I'm fascinated by the way in which you describe in detail the functions and features of this highly specialized (and very pricey) equipment. Excellent video... Keep up the great work. Congratulations on the new tractor.
I also admire how you and your father take such good care of your equipment from the maintenance, cleanliness of the exterior and interior and appearance. I'm a firm believer if you take good care of your equipment, it'll take care of you.

I just love your videos. I think it is just so cool for the “CornStar” family to share their farming experience to the world!!!! Keep it up👌👍🏻😍

Don’t forget to like the video! 🥰
Congrats on the new tractor! SWEET!
Cole, I love your super positive energy. It's a breath of fresh air that's enjoyable to experience.
Tractors and combines are so cool. My father in law purchased a used Case quadtrac 550 for his birthday. That thing is insane. For all the non farmers reading this, if you ever get the chance to see a combine up close, they really are truly amazing works of engineering. My kids always have a blast looking at all the farm equipment when they visit the grandparents.

Very nice! Can't wait to see it out in the spring.
congrats on your new equipment cant wait to see it in action next season
Christmas came early. There really good tractors Cole. You’ll enjoy it
When I was a kid my dad and uncle had a machine shop in Kingman, Kansas. The farmers there would leave their plows and disc's and tractors out in the field where they last ran them. Then when they needed them the next season they would come in and demand dad come out immediatly and fix them up so they could plow or disc or whatever their fields.
Dad even had a disc roller that would latch two rollers onto the individual discs and roll them out instead of grinding them. I'm surprised any of those farmers managed to survive at all the way they operated.
I would love to drive that new tractor around. It ain't nothing like the old Deeres I drove back in the 60s.
Great videos Sir you should be very proud of that son of yours, I see grandpa and grandma did a good job with you too. Thank you for farming thanks to farmers like you we have food in our tables, every time I put a piece of corn in my mouth I will be happy knowing where is coming from.
