    I loved this ! Paul and Brandon get really buzzed doing this flight !
    You can literally see and hear them get loftier and loftier as they go !
    Great job , very informative and funny. I will be starting my journey into scotch on Christmas. I am pretty sure my wife got me an Ardbeg 10 gift set with glasses.
    I like both of these guys, that usually doesn't happen. Very Impressive. 18 year also my pick.

    12 yo double cask is about $80 CAD in Canada and I recently got a 12 yo Sherry oak for $145 CAD. Even after considering the fx difference, it’s way more expensive here in Canada.

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays  Před 2 lety +2

      Wow. Definitely get the 12 double oak then. It is an objectively better whiskey (In my opinion) although slightly less 'Macallan-y' and the 12 sherry oak is in no world worth 145

    Super video guys - I'm sitting with a 12 and 15 Double Oak and wanting to buy either the 18 Sherry or the Rare Cask (can only find a 2019 batch 2 in my location). I'll keep an eye out for new releases etc from Macallan but its a hard choice between those two. For my money a Midleton Very Rare, Glenlivet 21, Balvenie 16 French Oak or a Glenfarclas 25 is better than both of the Macallans but theres something about having a Macallan...

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays  Před 2 lety +2

      Midleton Very Rare is an excellent bottle that I've had occasion to try several times, and I would highly recommend Yellow Spot to you as a more affordable and excellent alterantive which I would consider probably its closest competitor in terms of style. The closest to Macallan you mention is Glenfarclas 25 and even then, it is not nearly intense of a sherry experience.
      That said though, there's a very good reason I have 3 bottles of Glenfarclas 25 and 3 bottles of Glendronach 15 in my collection, and have only splurged for the Mac 18 once... Mac has a unique flavor you just can't get elsewhere. It isn't inherently better, but when you get the itch... well, they make you pay to scratch it 😅

      @chrismccannIRL Před 2 lety

      @@MaltMondays I had the pleasure of having a few drams of Yellow Spot in west Ireland a few months ago. Very smooth and tasty. You’re right … they do make you pay for the itch. Incredibly expensive but they seem to be able to command the price. Cheers

      I'd love to try the 18 double cask. The 12 double cask is a favorite of mine compared to the 12 sherry and 12 fine oak series.

  • @Zmann86
    @Zmann86 Před 3 měsíci

    interesting you consider the 21 to have that hint of peat to it because I experienced the same thing with Aberfeldy 21. The 12 and 16 and 18 were very tasty but the 21 (to me) definitely had a note of peat. It isn't a peated whisky but that flavor is pretty distinct and the Aberfeldy 21 Madeira cask had absolutely none of it.

    I've tried all the Macallan you've listed above minus the 21-Year-Old Fine Oak and my favorite was the Rare Cask. However, they are all ridiculously overpriced (145$ 12 year, 170$ Classic Cut, 600$ 18 year and 500$ Rare Cask). There is much better bang for your buck whiskeys for the same price.

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays  Před rokem +3

      I definitely agree it’s pricey but the 12 isn’t very expensive where I live. Premium but not more so than balvenie, or highland park or most other 12 yr malts. Everything beyond the 18 is crazy expensive though.

    10:38 Try $415 now. Just a year later. So in a year, it increased by $75...WTF?! If this thing is gonna increase $75 a year, they're gonna have a problem with people buying their products lol.

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays  Před 8 měsíci

      Sadly that's how it goes. When I first started drinking whisky in 2014, Mac 18 was only $200/bottle and at the time was considered VERY expensive. Unfortunately there is no shortage of people willing to spend this much on their products so they can keep raising the price more and more

      Macallan 15 was never really available around me so unfortunately not. I did review the 10 yr a long long time ago, and I found it to be the only macallan I would describe as ‘a little harsh’ which was unfortunate because I greatly enjoyed the flavors. Macallan is way overpriced no longer trying them because in Canada way to expensive... In reality most Scotch in Canada is nuts in price for the quality you get... In the past 15 years most scotch has become over priced for the so called quality... Much better buys in run and other whiskies within your nation.

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes Macallan is a luxury status symbol brand at this point before they are a whisky producer and are priced accordingly.
      Canada is very expensive, the US not so much and I don't know where it would be cheaper. But prices vary significantly just between cities and states here based on what each store wants to charge. When I was in Scotland there was no 'discount' once you considered the exchange rate of currencies.
