BeepBox.co. It is a place. A very GOOD place. It's a site that you've all been requesting I use for quite a long time now. The level of variety on BeepBox is honestly amazing for a free browser-based music maker. This was my first go after taking about 10 minutes to learn what I could beforehand, but I'd love to try something with it again in the future. Anyways, I went for another video game-style theme, because you know how much I love composing video game music! Anyways, join me and my terrible attention-span as I put something together in BeepBox. This is "I made a Video Game Theme in BeepBox.co" I hope you all enjoy!

"This sounds like going to a frog's house on a JRPG" has got to be one of my favorite Shady Cicada quotes.
It's so oddly specific but it's so right

This the type of song that plays when you lose one of your socks and start confusingly searching the house for it.
This is so oddly specific but it resonates within me so well
For real
Not relatable.
I just have more socks than I'll ever need. I usually buy two packs, which leaves me with an ability to lose a couple few pairs

I believe the instrument is actually a kalimba, (At least the beepbox version is) its a set of tuned metal rods or thin plates attached to a resonator box, you play by using your thumbs to pluck the rods. They come from Africa and they're really cool.
@@Faebiebot I accidentally downloaded a kalimba app on my phone several months ago. I get on it from time to time though.

This is literally all i use to make chiptune music, I love you. Although jummbox is a much better mod of this
I'll check it out then for sure! :)

It's like Beepbox but on steroids, there's things to make an instrument with a custom waveform or full-on automation

I think berd has made something like that.
"I don't even know what scale this is actually in"
It's (mostly) in locrian. Props for making something in locrian that doesn't sound like diminished nonsense lmao
Yeah, it sounds actually kinda chill.
Holy moly the redone version sounds incredible
I haven't been this excited to hear the full version of a Shady song since the _last_ one
Kirbybirb same!
Ahhh yes, my favorite instrument, the Angry Guy in Industrial Complex Beating up a Bucket. Very soothing.
This is so nostalgic for me. Beepbox was where I originally started composing music in the summer of 2016. It looks like a lot more features have been added since then though
it does, the recent (ish) 3.0 update added all kind of stuff. there's panning, new "harmonics" instruments, all kinds of presets, "spectrum" drums, you can select more than one pattern at a time (finally), there's more shortcuts, new stuff out the wazoo.
it's great.
So many cool features. When they added the instruments I went wild.
A LOT
jummbox is even crazier. join the server on discord. it's also on the Beepbox.co twitter
10:56 I hear that fighting spirit melody, Shady. I hear that
Today is the day. My prayers have been answered.

"I'm not even sure what scale this is"
This is the chromatic scale so basicaly all the keys.
You should try and make a remix of a song in one of the Legend of Zelda games. I think that would be funny
I've actually been considering this, funny enough :'D

underrated shady comment.
John Gun vs. Magnum Sword sounds like such a good indie action movie idea
Im actually doing this now

I really like seeing you make things in this kind of free stuff. It kinda shows how you can make something good in even open software
that second half reminds me of drawn to life, actually.
I see you're a man of culture as well..
In all seriousness I completely agree, literally exactly what I was thinking of before reading this comment :D
I got those exact vibes, glad to see someone else thought the same.
why do so many of shady cicada's songs sound like something out of drawn to life?
not complaining though, i love that game
edit: at 12:46 the xylophone part sounds like part of the boss theme in the second game
your videos have helped me find free music programs and realize that just because it’s free and sounds like crap doesn’t mean you can’t make something cool with it
10:50 That leitmotif was also in Fighting Spirit! Ayyyyy
Thank you for this birthday gift Shady :’)
Happy birthday :D

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another one of these where: 1. I slowly suffer inside. 2. I try to make a thing in time. 3. I try to make a (X) theme in 10 minutes. 4. I never give you up or let you down or say goodbye.

as someone who cant afford anything and therefore makes everything in beepbox this is a great video so far
Yes dude! Ive been making music in beepbox for about a year now. Im so happy you made some music in it!
The animated balloon guy always makes me think of the sub alert on streams so I half expected shady to say "you don't gotta do the thing" or whatever the saying is.
But damn this sounds great I kinda want to try to screw around on beepbox now
Welcome to my world, shady.
It reminds me of the SNES a lot, especially Earthbound-y. Great stuff!
Let's a go! - Super Shady Cicda - ( Mario ) 11:17 full version
few tips:
- you can drag up or down above notes to change velocity/volume idk which one but yes
- i suggest turning on everything from preferences menu
- you can change the ammount of instrument channels (6), instruments per channel (10), number of patterns (idk havent tested, probably just power of 2), and drum channels (3)
- you can click on a pattern and type in the number of pattern you wanna use (useful if you have over 10 patterns lol)
hopefully i didnt miss anything
Also:
- The entire song is stored in the URL, so you can save your song in a bookmark, or share them.
- There are some handy keyboard shortcuts. [C] copies the whole pattern and [V] pastes it into another one. You could use that in 4:05.
- There are very customisable 8-bit-style synths (square, sawtooth, sine, triangle, noise), which allow you to create NES- or GameBoy-like tunes.
I hope there will be a part 2! :)
@@tadeln yes, thank you, i completely forgot those even tho i use c and v a lot lol
This gives me HEAVY industrial/cave vibes, perhaps an abandoned mining facility? I love the chorus melody too, gives me INSANE goosebumps.
To make them continue playing over bars, you can take the left side of the second note (in the second bar) and pull it left till you see an arrow on it!
The leitmotif gave me some mad Drawn To Life vibes and I love it
I do love me some swoopy boys, sounds very similar to your weird area themes 👀
6:44 The theme of incoming doom. (Solid final product! Can’t wait for the full release of the revamped version! Keep the vibe going Shady Cicada!)
I really liked this song, it was calming yet almost nerve wreaking at the same time. I'd compare it to being in a haunted house, the place is beautiful and there is much to explore.. but you can't help but feel a chill on thr back of your neck
Please I need this as it’s own video so I can listen to it on loop without having to press the timestamp everytime I enjoy this so much it’s just a bop man please I’m begging you I’m going to DIE
Ooooh boy the segment starting at 12:35 is so good, I know you said it's an older leitmotiv but it works super well with these weird wail-y notes (and the xylophone chords in the background around 12:49 are so powerful, like I'd go to a war with these chords !!) Really really good :D
The song is called "Fighting Spirit". I recommend you give it a listen, it's awesome
Beepbox is like the first daw I've ever used
Used this website in school once. Don’t remember a lot of the stuff you used here though, it’s a lot better than I remember
Awhile back they added in new instruments I'm pretty sure
There've been SO many updates with so many different features, it's nuts! I never thought it would become what it is today
I think this is my favorite video of yours for a number of reasons. you've got the raw shady brainstream nonsense that I quote to this day (whenever I hear low cinematic drums I still think of john gun and magnum sword). the software being used is both accessible enough for a big dumbo like me to figure out but also powerful enough to allow for things to sound cool. but the biggest reason I think, and I don't mean this in a bad way, is that for most of the video, the song doesn't actually sound that good. I often tend to hyperfocus on making every part of a song sound perfect as I'm writing it, but this video serves as a reminder that it doesn't have to sound perfect in the moment, because in the video once the song is fully together, the song sounds great despite none of the individual bits sounding that great in a vaccum. reminds me that it's okay to just do things even if they don't sound great in the moment b/c they might later, and I can always change them later if I need to, but it's not going to sound like anything until it's actually a song and not just some disconnected melodies. I hope this doesn't sound like an insult because the song and it's final version are both really good and I like them. I also like this video because using beepbox after seeing you show it off is what got me to actually start writing music. also I just want to mention that beepbox is actually a surprisingly really powerful program, like the synthesizers are so cool, and you can customize every aspect of them if you enable it in the settings and you can get some really cool sounds by fiddling with the settings. also if you press shift+r it generates a random entirely new instrument. how cool is that. that's awesome. I love just pressing shift+r and finding the wackyest sounds I can and doing stuff with them. anyways after learning how to use beepbox, I've managed to make some things I'm actually proud of, one of which I uploaded to youtube and I don't know if you'll ever see this but it would absolutley make my forever if you saw it, b/c you are probably the biggest inspiration for my music. idk I feel kind of weird for saying that. this is probably the most inspiring video of yours to me (I suppose it is measurably the most inspiring, because it actually inspired me to do things). idk this video is cool. sorry for the whole essay of youtube comment. have a nice day :)
BeepBox is actually really nice for being a free browser experience and the instrument quantity and quality is actually amazing
Omfg when you turned light mode on i had a whole stroke😂
in the almost 4 years ive spent using this site, this video has probably taught me the most important lesson
**volume balance**
i thank you
John Gun is my favorite character in all of Shady's stuff, but Villain-Chan is a close second
The final version is out and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
Bumping for that sweet Algo Rhythm!
Was not expecting my favorite song ever fighting spirit by shady cicada ™ to be a light motifs
Got me pogging yo
The ending bit with the leitmotif gave me Isaac vibes for some reason. Was pretty spicy
Oh man, that remade version preview is amazing, can't wait!
This is very good, I sort of hear Star Wars' "The Force Theme" towards the beginning, just a bit.
11:37
May the force be with you !
Beepbox is actually how I make all my music (and I have been for a few years) and it has really evolved recently. I think it's only had proper instruments for about a year, before that they just had beeps and boops.
For the next April fools Shady should have his title be “Attempting to make a Video Game” and have it be an hour long rick roll.
YESSS
This is the kind of stuff that makes days. I'm really excited for the redone ver.!
6:55 - star wars
10:19 - astronomia
Edit: or at least, that's what I hear ._.
“Upon hearing this, I’m getting some kind of a cave vibe”
The last thing I heard before my WiFi cut out :/
@Sir62 *ROBLOX OOF, but incredibly slowed down*
You should try using flat.io. I use it to write my music.
That little animation at the beginning Was sick😁😁👍
all of these videos are genuinely inspiring, it's really neat to see your process
I use beepbox almost preferentially for my game, and it's so cool to see you composing with the same sounds I hear all the time.
6:55 that sounds like Rey’s theme from the force awakens (I think it’s Rey’s theme at least but I’m not 100% sure)
Oh wow you can edit when the decay starts and when it stops in the fourth track, that's soo cool... Took me a while to figure out the controls though: you drag up and down from outside the note, that changes the volume at that point. One note can go quieter and louder again within its duration.
Edit: it's the white triangle in the grey block, I don't think you even saw that
And WTF you can edit the instrument, completetly select what frequencies you want and stuff like that, this is too good for a free website
I never thought i'd be better than a professional at using a DAW!
I used to use this for music when all i had is a chromebook ;-;
Same bro. Same.
Your on fire shady making some cool tunes this month and glad to see you enjoying your self. And your music.
I’ve listen to the full song like 20+ times by now it’s sooooo good. Shady Cicada you did a wonderful job thank you!
This video introduced me to Beepbox in 2020. It's the reason I decided to make music! Im still going today! Thanks!
You make really good music! I love watching you make all these songs!!
Damn that's GOOD!!!!! I didn't expect a free-to-use website would be of such quality.
We need to flood nintendo to get them to make Shady’s game
ive literally wrote millions of comments on super mario maker 2 saying "make the shady cicada game, nintendo"
Nononono
ANYONE but Nintendo, we all know they hate anything their community makes
Now this is a song I'm excited to see! (...hear?... Eh...) Keep up the great work, love it all!
Thanks for introducing me to Beepbox! I've been using it for hours upon hours these last two days.
Nice song! Ive been composing music for my game using beepbox and its honestly awesome and really easy to use
Glad you made this, never heard of this program but it looks really fun. Looking forward to that full version.

It's cool to see that it can still be used to cool works like this!
Caught ya' live
Edit: Since I'm so early I guess I could recommend a challenge to you.
Make a videogame theme using warioware diy.
Dunno if you've already done it though.
I haven't done that! That actually sounds like a fantastic idea. Thank you very much for the suggestion!
I'm a sucker for songs that do this (12:34) sort of thing in the music. Just... The way it sounds is perfect.
this is actually so good, u earned a new sub
beepbox is surprisingly good. i use it for all of my music because i can't afford anything else.
Oooh, nice one! This inspired me to convert my recent Chrome Music Lab creations into something better than they could be on CML!
One Tip that I've found out over time about BeepBox.co. is that if you have Multiple Tabs on a Computer-like device that also allows you to hear sound from Multiple Tabs, it is possible to completely overlap two BeepBox.co. Tabs' music so that you can have access to more layers of Instruments. You can perfectly overlap the tabs by pausing the quicker one until they are both aligned. You can have keep a perfect loop if both beepbox Tabs have the same Tempo, the same Song Length, and Not Pausing the music After being Aligned. I just thought this fact was really cool.
