  • The Best Add On Controller For Your DJ Setup? Remix Decks - Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol F1
    In my opinion, yes it is! I'll be showing you everything you need to know on this small but powerful controller. This beast has 5 different functions and I will show you all of them and hopefully it will open up something new for you to explore and add to your DJ performance.
    In part 1 I will take you through the primary function of the F1 and Remix decks as a whole.
    To download the NI remix decks then follow this link - www.native-instruments.com/en...
    Thanks for watching and happy creating :-)

    FYI - There is a few pops and clicks around the 6 minute mark as there was an issue with the recording, but I hope that doesn't put you off. I'll make sure it doesn't happen on the next one. :-)

      Hi David, Glad you like the videos. Yes the Z1 will work in conjunction you just need to change the z1 in controller manager to work with decks C D. Be careful as if i remember rightly, it will then change fx 3 and 4

      I think you’re right. It’s awesome but can hinder if used unwisely, but that’s the same with over mixing, over effects etc. The best thing is, you can use it in so many ways that you will find a use for it even if it’s just to play your DJ ident.

    Hey, thanks for the cool, informative video. I was wondering if anybody on the comments could help here. I have a Traktor Audio 6. Using Scratch Pro 2 Timecode Vinyl. Turn tables in to Audio 6 - Out to my Denon prime 4 inputs. With a Traktor X1 connected so i do not have to touch the laptop with Traktor Pro 3 installed. All works 100%. However, i would like to connect my Z1 to be used as the primary mixer instead of the Prime 4. Would like to eliminate the Prime 4 all in all. Any advice how to do this as the Z1 only has outputs and no inputs for the Audio 6...

There's a single yellow pad and whatever others I selected in blue, but when I hit Browse nothing happens. I tried switching modes, hitting Browse a few times and Shift+Browse - no dice. Help! Does it matter that I have two decks (original S4/Pro 3/PC) in Step Sequencer mode?

  • @karoliske
    @karoliske Před 3 lety +3

    Thanks for the content DAVE! Any real experience using F1 together with S2? That's my setup at the moment, usually I would perform with s2 (and traktor pro 3). Now after getting f1 I didn't realise before that f1 will be mapped for 1 deck. So if I play normal tracks on track decks A and B using built in S2 mapping then I have to map S3 to DECK C or D and then my biggest issue is that a lot things have to be done with the mouse(disatvanted of having 2 CHANNEL controller yeah).
    Simple question here: any good mappings on how to perform 2 track decks plus 1 remix/stem deck at the same time and using only S2 and F1? Cheers

    • @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
      @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert  Před 3 lety +2

      High Karolis, I love the S2 and F1 together as you don’t need to worry about having another channel on your S2 as the F1 will do it all.
      How I advise you setting it up is have the Crossfader turned off for deck c or d (depending on which you have the remix deck on, or both). Then with the F1 you can load, monitor, trigger and everything else you need to do without worrying about doing anything on the S2.
      Shout if you need more explanation:-)

    • @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
      @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert  Před 3 lety +1

      Absolutely. Turn on the loop on that deck and then capture using the F1.
      Best way to get it all nice and tight is to have sync on all decks. Have snap on (after making sure the beatgrid is correct) so you get an even loop.

  • @solmkhan1
    @solmkhan1 Před rokem +1

    Hi dave, you mentioned to watch the phase meter with the remix decks. I am having a weird issue where my remix deck C won't sync with track decks A or B. I have remix deck C sync on, quantize on set to 1 beat, beatsync on and the master clock internal set so none of decks A, B or C are the master. My remix deck C will only sync properly when I play the first sample (beat count is 1.1.1). Any new sample played after does not sound beat matched. The samples are beat gridded correctly, as when i load them into a track deck they sync fine. I tried a sample in A, track in B, same sample in remix deck C. The sample in remix deck C was slightly lagging the same sample in track deck A. Any ideas?? I posted on NI forum too. Thanks.

    HEY DAVE question when making you remix decks do you do them and name them by BPM... it would sound crazy trying to put in remix that was 120 with a track that was 130 cause with sync on that track would be playing to fast.... so do you try to play remix decks similar with the BPM you are currently in cause it is crazy having a remix deck with BPM all over the place

    • @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
      @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert  Před 5 lety +1

      Great question. That way is a very sensible way if you are making all loops that need to be beat grid. You could however mix 120 with 130, set the key locks and set the master clock to 125 so you meet in the middle. 5 bpm is an acceptable difference and you wouldn’t hear much difference.
      Sometimes it’s fun to push them and see what happens but if you start the way you said then you can’t go wrong.
      Ask anymore questions whenever 😊

      Thanks for the kind words and glad they have helped you.
      You can turn this into midi mode and map to ableton. The best way is you can go to ableton turn to midi mode and do your thang and then flick to traktor and turn back to normal mode and control the remix decks. There will be some getting used it and restrictions but great idea.

    well DAVE thanks for these tutorials, they are awesome. BUT i cant seem to pass the first step for three days now. I have searched the whole internet and no answer nor fix to my issue. I cant seem to get the NI remix paks to work in traktor pro 3. I downloaded the remix sets from NI, loaded them into track collection in traktor, they o appear there in terms of titles but they have exclamation mark on the beginning and when loaded into a remix deck i get the following message : "can not play due to a missing or corrupt file'. I dont get how can these be missing nor corrupt when i got them from NI and i loaded them from my folder into traktor. If anyone can help i would be very greatful as i couldnt find a fix for this after trying everything possible that has been posted n the internet

    DAVE - CZcams needs more quality instructional content just like this. Thank you soooo much for covering everything bruv! I am a huge fan of the F1 and enjoy learning more about it (thanks to you). Now this question I have is more software related and I'm hoping you can help me out here - My question is regarding the saving of the remix sets. I checked in my Traktor settings and I have the box checked to auto save the remix sets. It will save a remix set but it seems when I start a new remix set, it overides the previously saved one. Any ideas?

    Hi Dave, congrats for the tuto. Just a quick Q : I noticed you triggered Stop by holding Shift and a mute button. Is this a specific midi mapping ? Cause it's been some weeks I am looking a way to stop a remix deck without using my laptop keyboard in order to load another remix set. thanks !

    • @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
      @DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Patrick.
      The mute buttons at the bottom of the F1 can be mute then shift and mute makes that column stop. You can change that in preferences to be stop and then shift makes it a mute.
      This is a standard function that will automatically be there when you plug in the F1 BUT you cannot stop the full deck using the the controller unfortunately. So consider your ‘load into stopped deck’ preference when using remix decks.
