I remember playing the Wanted game for literally HOURS and getting my high score into the several 1000s. It was exhausting. I planned to go until I hit a limit (if there was any, I did look it up, but I don't remember if there was one on the New Super Mario Bros. version), but exhaustion made me lose my concentration and I couldn't for the life of me find Luigi anymore until it was too late and time had counted all the way down from 50. It was both sad and relieving that my game ended.

I love these little minigames! Though, I believe New Super Mario Bros. had the definitive selection with multiplayer as an awesome bonus, too. I think that by trimming down the selection, adding new minigames, and graphically overhauling some of the older ones, it really boosted the minigames’ replayability as a whole. I still try to get people to play a round of Speed! every once and a while. It's always tricky for everyone to find the motivation to commit to the DS when we have so many alternative consoles to play, but when the minigames get going, we usually play them for hours.

Those mini-games were always the best part of the DS Mario duology. I didn't have 64 DS growing up, but I did have New Super Mario Bros, and I loved them. It was only later that I found out about 64 DS and how many more mini-games there were. Unlocking those games were my main motivation for finishing the game and I even spent hours trying (and succeeding!) to get characters on top of the castle early to catch the bunnies. The mini-games were amazing in both games and I'm eagerly waiting for the list of New Super Mario Bros. mini-games. I know there's only 2 new regular ones, but I spent a lot of time playing the multiplayer ones so I'm sure there's enough of those to make a list about. Seriously, Loves Me turns into a much better game in multiplayer.

In the conversation for emulating the DS/3DS stylus, I'd like to submit my personal solution for my setup: A drawing tablet.
Granted, it's not the same feeling or accuracy you would have with a lot of games where you would *physically* touch the pen on the object, button, or character with a real DS or 3DS.
BUT! It's still pretty f#@king accurate. It all comes down to the game, really. Some games a mouse actually makes sense, some don't even need the stylus for much of anything, and some just require a special control set in order to play a game comfortably. (which can even be better than the original controls if you find a control scheme you like)

For me, I never was a fan of the Luigi games because I just didn't understand card games when I was little. I just couldn't figure them out, but returned to them to hear Sunshine’s Casino theme on the go.
Wario and Yoshi were okay, I do remember Tox Box Shuffle and the Snowball roller being some of my favorites, but the panel flips were too much for my tiny brain.
Mario was always my favorite though, I really liked all of them, even if I wasn't the best, and that's only because of their simple arcadey style. The high scores were really fun and I always loved the trampolines.

In my opinion I tend to reply the mario category the most since the games are mostly platforms or puzzles.

  • @justsomesimplenuclearbirbs4313

Fun fact: Due to Korea having anti-gambling laws *NONE* of the minigames exist in the Korean version of Mario 64 DS. However, it seems *some* of the minigames from New Super Mario Bros. made their way into the Korean version of the game due to the menu still existing if you look at The Cutting Room Floor's page for New Super Mario Bros. comparing the regional differences for the main menu.
Whether or not *Luigi's* minigames are in the Korean version remains to be seen as TCRF doesn't have a full comparison of the menus between all existing versions.

Just in time! I’m getting an original DS PHAT with a copy of Mario 64 Ds and Big Brain Academy for Chrimbo for a big dose of nostalgia for the holiday season.

I loved these minigames, because my dumb child mind that didn't really understand English, found them much more simple than the main game (my uncle beat the game for me lol). And honestly? Loves me is one of my favourites purely because of how calming it was... or because me and my sister tried to see which one of us could pick all the petals first. But I did love pretty much every single minigame that didn't require me to read (torilla tavataan suomalaiset)

I remember several years ago where I let my brother borrow my 2Ds just to try out some the mini games, but when he got to Picture Poker... I remember he played at least *2 hours of it...* and after he lost, he never played it again...

I'd personally say that the trampoline and line-drawing games are better than you gave them credit, but the rest checks out quite well
