For the comments wondering about the state of the game since the title neglected to mention it: this is an Early Access Technical Preview of the game, i.e. it's a pre-Alpha build that has reused assets and missing many of the planned features of the game. The devs are allowing people who pre-order the game on EGS to play it so they can provide feedback going forward during development.

The UI isn't very intuitive yet as its still a WIP, but to send a successful pirate raid you click on the finger and then click on the Pirates picture, this allows you to then designate a planet. Also at the start I struggled for money too, but you upgrade the economy to the max on each planet, then all mining, build your asteroid factories and then do what ever you want, by which point your new planet will start to produce a steady stream of income.
Already the mechanics are very different to the first, the changing space lanes are so different and add a unique feature, but I am glad you can turn that option off for a more familiar sins game.

Sins has been a VERY good game back then. Wouldnt thought to ever see a sequel.

Am I missing something? I dont think Ive ever seen a less improved sequel to a game. Especially considering the time between games. If it werent for the title, Id have just assumed this was a modded Sins 1 with very slightly different UI. Even the music is identical! I really loved the original game, but sadly not enough to buy it a second time 15 years later. Maybe if its 5$ for people with the original? Not sure whats going on here.

I was about to make the same comment. Star Trek Armada 3 is changing more about this game than the sequel does. And it is a "just" a free mod.
Maybe that's why they sold out to Epic
To be fair, this is a very early build. In a year when it comes to Steam I’ll take another look and we can see where they plan on taking it.
@@KamikazeCommie501 EGS is great. They pay devs more fairly than Steam and Epic make the best game engine out there. Not sure why people hate EGS so much. Its feature light still, but getting better. Remember when Steam sucked like a system crippling vampire malware in the background? No? Maybe you arent old enough to have experienced that. Exclusives are the only way to shoulder your way in when there are monopolies like steam in a marketspace.
I loved the first one, I would compare it to a sci fi space version of Warcraft 3 (the one I played). You have your capitals that level up as you clear monsters from planets etc. I can't believe they are charging £30 to test their game when so many of the assets look identical to the first. Work in progress but still. Obviously I will wait for a while for the development. Still excited to see where it goes!
problem for me is this looks like soase 1 with updated graphics, whats the hook? I still regularly play the original just needs a bit of tweeking to utilize more cpu cores.

I never played this series or distant worlds series but I did play stellaris. My problem with stellaris is the combat. I want something on a stellaris scale but with better combat so not sure which of the 2 to go with. My real want is Fragile existence but I have no idea when thats supposed to come out.
Why is this 2? It's just an extension from 1, right?
This game can look and play as good as it wants, but if they don't fix the memory issues from the first one, this game is going to be bad.
Sins 2 already runs superior to the first game due to having an x64 engine rather than the original's x32 engine. There's a Sins 2 video out on CZcams showing 1,500 bombers acting on a single gravity well, and it runs at 60fps, a framerate that the original could only dream of.
IT is 10 years to late , i was loving rebelion but now in 2022 graphics and complexity after stellaris is in my opinion average at best. They have huge work to do to improve it or it will be disaster.

I hope you didn't actually give Epic money to play this. From the looks of it, you could've just put SoaSE 1 on and nobody would know the difference.
