- THORPE PARK have officially revealed plans for a new Roller Coaster. Codenamed Project Exodus and standing at 72m (236ft) this huge new ride is set to be the tallest roller coaster in the United Kingdom. In this video I take a detailed look at the plans for the ride including the layout, elements and overall area. I also share my thoughts on the layout along with talking about possible manufactures!

It’s going to be a BEAST! Let me know your thoughts down below in the video comments!
It is for the UK! USA is a different story!
Another really short coaster, the advantage of a B&M Hyper was that is could have been a nice long ride
It will be fun
I thought stealth was high . But shorne ive got a question for you
Is this going to be better than veloci coaster
@@thundercontent7314 shorne
Layout to me looks like:
180° twisted drop
Immelmann
Outerbanked turn into an inversion on the way down
Dive loop
Splash down
Barrel roll or maybe outer banked turn
Airtime hill
Great analysis. It’s really hard to tell from what we’ve seen, however it’s so nice to finally see some plans!
Yeh I agree Ben although looks like it could be a non inverting immelman? That's definitely a dive loop and not a regular loop, though.
Looks like the Dive Loop will have a stall before the loop section
I'm 90% sure that second-last turn is outer banked which is awesome, very unique for UK at least
Spot on
You're like a human dynamo this year Shawn, I don't know how you manage it. I don't think any of us are complaining though, with all the brilliant stuff you do, both on here and the other channel. Well done mate 👍
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
It’s way too short for all that potential energy built up on the lift hill. What is it with our country and short coasters?! However, I’m excited nonetheless
Pay close attention to the drop! It looks like it twists 180 degrees towards the station and rises up into the non-inverting Immelmann type thing. Then he heads back towards the weird outer bank/twisting horseshoe turnaround. Then it heads up into a dive loop that stalls out like a traditional vertical loop. Then it dives into the splashdown (I imagine trims would be here given the size of the following elements). Then the outer bank high-five thing, then the airtime hill, then brakes. If this layout is anything to go by it is 100% Mack Rides in my opinion.
It’s really hard to tell from what we’ve seen, however it’s so nice to finally see some plans!
Yes you are right, Shawn kind of messed up the order of the elements here.
It looks like a hyper coaster if they wanted to make it like a Gerstlauer Eurofighter. I honestly wish there was more airtime and i wish it was longer.
Okay I have to admit I like how the rides looking and the elements, abit disappointing that it looks so short but as Shawn said yesterday on the live stream I hope this starts up coaster wars between merlin, Blackpool and the new London resort when built :) keep up the great work guys xx
Blackpool wil probably crumble in that fight
It’s gonna pack a punch in a short time so it’s gonna feel like a long ride
Thank you!
What new London resort
@@IWTBF the one called the London resort that are also waiting on planning permission to be built.
I find it interesting how many people who went to the consultation said the layout looked long, yet here it looks quite short. Still, very excited either way - Thorpe Park needs this desperately!
Definitely
I personally hope this will be an Inatmin ride, similar to Konda. Especially with all the over banked turns.
I'm hoping that this has the same overhead lap bar restraints as Icon, that would make it absolutely INSANE to ride!
It would indeed
i think swarm like restraints with the extra part over the body would be great too
@@Izzy.clarkkx It's a bit too restrictive imo
Dc rivals has the same restraints as icon and they r excellent
Looks epic but short at the same time. It wouldn't be a truly UK ride without skimping on something, I guess!
Let’s hope it’s nice and action packed!
Yep, gotta get the headline fact but doesn't matter how short it is!
I'm gonna agree... looks incredibly short for a coaster that size. Seems a shame to build such a massive drop and waste it on such a short layout. No doubt it'll be awesome though!!
feels like merlin were more interested in breaking the height record and not much else
Can’t wait to see how this ends up!
aaaa i didn't know you were a roller coaster fan too. i love your channel :D
This ride is not needed
@@GarryWilliams555 Agreed, standard Merlin. This would have been it 100%. Look at other rides done to do the same thing.
It’s a real shame it looks so short. The smiler shows you can have a compact lay out and still pack an awful lot in. Really hope this is considered in consultation and the plans change slightly to make it longer
Thorpe Park is already too inversion heavy. Really wanted a Airtime machine. Ideally a out and back hyper. This just looks far too short.
Definitely hope we see more airtime from this!
I’ve run calculations from the overall image and it seems to be around 3850 feet which is a decent length so hopefully this doesn’t disappoint, there seems to be a huge outer banked turn as well so hopefully it will be world-class
Also this could feature OTSRs instead of lapbars which would definitely be a shame. Thorpe has no lapbars on its main coasters
@@visionist7 lap bars dont work well with inversions. it would feel very unsafe i think
@@Izzy.clarkkx plenty of inversions with lapbars out there... none at Thorpe though
We know Merlin like to create worlds firsts, this one could be branded as the world's shortest hyper coaster
It’s certainly looking short however very action packed from start to end!
I'm actually glad it's not a B&M. From what we knew yesterday there was still the possibility of it being a very tall B&M Dive, and we don't need any more of those.
Very disappointed tbh. We're so far behind the US when it comes to rides. Far too short just like The Swarm
Let’s hope this rides great!
I don’t think we can complain about the length - look at stealth and oblivion! The sheer size of these elements will be breathtaking.
But Stealth and Oblivion are a one trick pony. Everyone wanted airtime but Thorpe Park failed us
This is not what the UK needs. This is just what we already have but higher. We needed a long layout, high and with loads of airtime. Go to a park with a coaster that fits that description and everybody claps and are all smiles in the brake run. Instead I feel like everybody will be dazed by the time they hit the brakes like everything else we have. Honestly a huge opportunity missed and i'm gutted. I'll ride it but can't see me getting a season pass like I was going to if it was the usual kind of hyper coaster that makes people jump on an aeroplane to ride. This will not have that effect and our coaster friends abroad won't be rushing over to the UK to ride it. They have better on there doorstep. it is early days but the layout is basically set in stone due to the plans on the website and surveys.
UK doesn’t want to build a top 50 coaster. They’re cheap. This ride is a huge disappointment… short and no airtime
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
They could have added a couple bunny hills towards the end. That break run is so long
Last time I'm going to say this, since I've been saying it all day... This looks exactly like Der Schwur des Kärnan at Hansapark to me. Both the track and support structure are the same. It could very well be a Gerstlauer Infinity Hyper like that.
I agree
Thorpe Park is in serious need of this, its been way to long since they've had a new coaster. I for one am really excited about it
I think it’s fine as will be fast, big thrills and something new. Remember Rita is only 30 odd seconds long so is Stealth but they are great fun. Anything new is good let’s see if they are gonna do something for AT as it badly needs it.
Can’t lie; i'm a little disappointed. Even if this turns out to be a great coaster the number one thing the UK coaster market is missing is an airtime machine. A ‘traditional’ hypercoaster would be the perfect fit and while I hope i’m wrong this just seems to reverse direction too much to be able to offer the kind of relentless airtime rides like Shambhala, Mako, Hyperion, DC rivals are just so much fun for. It’s especially disappointed as realistically Thorpe Park is the only park other than BPB that could install a hyper coaster. So I guess back to hoping Amanda see’s the light and spends the money reprofiling the Big Ones two big airtime hills and replacing everything after the hill over the midway will rapid bunny hills circa Phantom's Revenge to make it the coaster we need it to be.
A modernization of the Big One a la Phantom’s Revenge would be outstanding
They'd have to make some more artificial land to generate the space needed for an out-and-back coaster.
I hope you realise airtime is not always in the form of traditional camelbacks. The concept images show that every element will have some form of airtime. Thorpe needs a stand out ride; a B&M hyper is incredibly common and has a unoriginal boring layout. Do you really think an insane outerbank steel vengeance roll looking thing is worse than a floater camelback?
Imagine some new trains on it.. like icons or something more open 🤣
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Looks good and all, but they needed something more focused on airtime hills in my honest opinion.
Definitely hoping for some good airtime on this!
Simply can't wait! First drop looks impressive and the splash plaza would be an amazing viewing platform. This is going to keep you very busy for the next few years.....bring it on!
The fact that this was announced on my birthday makes it one of my best birthday presents
This looks great (so far at least) but it's shame to see Old Town take a hit. That place works really well in Frightnights.
For me it looks like a Gerstlauer. The big part in the middle reminds me of monster or junker with the dive loop and vertical loop
Is there even a Gerstlauer without a launch or vertcal lifthill?
@@Def3niTion Yes but only their family coasters as far as i know.
@@0z3r0
Smiler: am i a family coaster 4 u ?
@@IMcraftyID Good point i forgot haha
Could also be a Gerstlauer Infinity coaster (somewhere between Kärnan oder Hangtime). Or an S&S (some 'Steel Curtain' vibes here).
The support of the big loop is 100% identical to Kärnan.
Okay so this looks REALLY fun, but also like a buckled pylon.
Based on the track and support structure I'm almost 100% certain that it's gerstlauer.
Hope not - I can't survive saw without a headache, let alone a hyper coaster
Looks like Steel Curtain and Kondaa together! Very exciting to see whats it going to become!
Hours later, still feeling underwhelmed. Even something like a clone of Ice Breaker at Sea World I would have prefered.
Can't believe they've only gone to beat the current record by 1 whole foot lol, 12 inches. I guess it has inversions though which is cool, and I'm guessing they didn't wanna make it any bigger as they'd face more opposition for planning permission
@@iitzfizz its not 1 foot. big one is 213ft, they lie and put it against sea level, but actual structural height
@@iitzfizz they haven't, blackpool falsely markets the big one at 235, it's in actuality only 213. Thorpe will need to extend the layout from this slightly though if they really want a world class ride. But even as it stands the elements they have put in seem exceptional, just a bit short
@@tomwhite4596 legit. Blackpool is probably the only park that measures their coaster using the sea level. Like wtf
@@Yasin_2312 Ikr lmao
This is a really interesting development
Looking forward to seeing how this changes the rumoured plans for Alton Towers as well
The last rumour I heard was that Merlin were making a 3 coaster deal with B&M, but with this new one at Thorpe looking like a Mack or Intamin coaster, I wonder what that means for the other rides
This is something very different to what anyone was expecting!
A bit like when they signed a deal with GCI😂. Think it’s just pure rumour
Its great Thorpe park are investing however although it'll be the tallest in the UK I still think the layout is very short and underwhelming- would have much preferred a classic B&M hyper!
I don't think I've ever been so excited about a coaster ever thanks for upolad shaun
Spent some time studying the pics and made a mock up in Planet Coaster. The mock up takes about 85 seconds.
Had to trim it on what looks like a splash zone. As was still going 70mph out of the second loop.
Ok, 5 points:
1. Looks like fast-track queue (middle path connecting to the plaza) merges REALLY close to the station. Not good news for queue-equity if they keep merging fast-tracks that close to the ride, unlike something like Colossus/Saw/Nemesis where they still have to queue. Thorpe Park is terrible at selling way too many fast-tracks
2. I was debating whether the third entrance is disabled or single-rider, and the deliberate lack of stairs where the others have them implies disabled queue. Awesome that people with disabilities get their own dedicated queue-line rather than being forced to go through the exit, looks like back-row will be for disabled
3. Sucks there's no single-rider queue though, I imagine it could cut a lot off the main queue and they had a completely blank canvas to work with :(
4. Long brake-run means hopefully we can get three trains running!
5. However, I don't know if this would really speed things up. It looks like the runtime is shorter than we could expect loadtime to be, so doesn't seem to warrant having another train sitting around waiting but not sure
Thanks for sharing!
ooooh, interesting.... Short for sure but with a break run that Long they may have scope for a few block sections to ensure decent throughout (like Oblivion)? Maybe 3 train operation? Really don't want Thorpe to have a short ride with potential for 2hr plus queues, kills the day...
I can't wait to ride this! Looks incredible. Although seems very short especially with the speed it'll be running at. Wish they made it a little longer!
I’ve done some calculations on the track length from the overall image, it seems to have a total track length of around 3850 feet so hopefully it will be an absolute Banger🔥🔥
Awesome!
Even though it’s gonna be the uks tallest am abit disappointed as I was hoping it was going to have more airtime moments. Thorpe park already inversion heavy with there rollercoaster I just wish it focused more on airtime and less on inversion. To me am gonna go for a wildcard and say S&S it looks to much like steel curton to me
I reckon its a Mack. It has a lot of similar elements to DC Rivals.
An rmc would be amazing especially in my local theme park
Me: I wanna go on the new rollercoaster!
My fear of heights: *nope*
personally, it seems like the first drop is a 180 degree twisted near vertical drop, followed by an immelmann then a really strange outward-twisted-inverted overbanked turn. (lol idk) it then looks to travel through a dive loop into a splashdown, followed by a wave turn and an airtime hill into the brakes. this is a rough interpretation of what I can see based off the artist's impressions of the coaster, as opposed to the plans.
It’s certainly looking like the drop could be twisted. Very exciting plans!
I really wanted to see a B&M Hyper! It’s disappointing unfortunately
They're overrated imo. No real airtime I've found
@@visionist7 wait what… have you ever been on a b&m hyper??? Lol they are king of floater airtime…. And the UK has no airtime at all.
@@mr.intamin1081 floater isn't airtime imo. The UK has fantastic airtime on one or two coasters. Back row on Icon over the first hump soon to be eliminated with the spinning seats and both humps on Smiler
Thinking about this all day. The UK still lacks a decent airtime machine and this doesn't seem to fill that box. The Pepsi Max still has a place for a nostalgic hyper coaster. I would of preferred a B&M Hyper or Intamin Mega or Mack Hyper. RMC would of been my forth.
@@Shnayblay 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Def looks like a Mack hyper. Intamin's newer track has a thick spine. Mack had done those weird slow banked turns on their extreme spinners. Imagine if it had a pinning car, that would be nuts. But I'm not sure if they'll do that on a hyper.
Better start queuing now based on my previous experiences with Thorpe Park.
Looking at the length of the final straight, if it was either mack or intemin you would think there is enough run to add a final zero g roll before the brakes, looks interesting though
Disappointingly short. It ends on break run where block section should be. It’s half a ride lol
Will be good though, but shame it’s not a B&M hyper, doubt the UK will ever get one now tbh.
For my part, inversions and rails remind me of Maurer, Gertslauer or Premier rides ! The first manufacturer proposing a non-inverted loop was Maurer Schöne. But examining again the rails It perfectly match with Mack !
It really looks like Der Schwur des Kärnan at Hansapark. The support of the big loop is nearly identical. I call Gerst Infinity Hyper.
It's insane rewatching this announcement video now that the coaster is built and testing!
Just four weeks to go! 🎉🍾😁
So exciting!
Awesome, won’t have to go to Blackpool now. This coaster looks like an absolute beast, shame loggers leap will be replaced still another reason to go on it again 😏
Finally, Its been so long since they got a new coaster and this is my first experience of a coaster being built as a coaster enthusiast! And its at my favourite park!
Looks like a 65 + degree lift Hill. Very steep!
I cant tell if I'm excited by the layout or a little bit disappointed.. the UK needs a proper Hyper and airtime monster, and this doesn't seem to be it. Thorpe already has a tonne of inversions, but minimal airtime and it would've completed the lineup with a traditional Hyper I feel.
This just seems a little short and underwhelming from the concept images, like you'll spend longer going up the lift than you do going through the rest of the course. The element after the first drop into that turn around looks interesting through, as does the corkscrew/stall into the final airtime Hill before the brakes.
The view from the M3 does look insane though. Certainly a photogenic ride at the very least!
Yup… the UK is missing a top 50 coaster in the world and this doesn’t look promising… no airtime… short… ugh
Pathetic isn’t it . TP don’t need this
Some people are saying it looks boring. Those people need to cheer up :)
Anyone else watching on opening month? I’m so excited!!🤍
I’m not disappointed whatsoever by this. It’s obviously short but I feel because of the speed and the complex elements it’ll be the perfect length for an action pact and extremely intense coaster
Wow! Squeezing so much in to a short ride and a small space!
Imagine if this turns on to be a mack spinning coaster
Looks awesome! I have a feeling it will be themed around people leaving Earth or another planet, due to the project name and height/speed.
This has potential.
My takeaway is if its a short layout. The trains could be coming over that last hill at some speed hence the long brake run. I cant see why they would have it so long if that wasnt the case. It has to be long for a reason.
Definitely
They stack their trains on the final brake, no mid brake. This fits with a lot of modern coasters
The layout is a fully turning 180 degree drop, so just extra DC Rivals, into the massive immelman (like the one on the 200ft mack launch coaster in china) then into the massive OUTERbank into a roll out of it, then into a dive loop, into the splashdown, into the outwards banked waveturn, and into the iartime hill.
That outerbank inversion i feel could top steel vengeance’s outer bank and become one of the greatest elements ever created
Possibly so!
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHGAA NICE JOKE.
Why do I feel underwhelmed? Maybe because I was hoping for a much longer layout? Although it does look like it packs a punch 😯👍. Exciting times ahead 👍
That shot giving the perspective from the motorway, holy cow I didn’t realise the scale at all, it’s humongous!
Big in height but maybe not quite as 'big' as we had hoped given it's Thorpe's first new ride in 10 years....!
This looks amazing I’ve been going to Thorpe park for a while and it’s about time for a new costa and this one looks like it’s going to be one of the best in England If not Europe
It’s very exciting indeed
They already sell Costa at the Coffee Shack, so no need for an exclusive outlet.
Looks kinda like Steel Curtain at Kennywood. Not so much in layout, but the structure and element design. Look closer at the pdf of the plan, it does not go from the first drop to the overbank, the track twists while going down and goes back towards the lift hill, like Steel Curtain, just without the Drachen Fire loop on the first drop. The loop looks to be the last element. This could be an S&S.
Reminds me of Steel Curtain at Kennywood in Pittsburgh
By the looks of it, there are only 3 words to say
LET ME ON!!!!!
This is so exciting! It looks so fun even though I have never tried stealth, this looks insane! Annoyingly however, it will be open in 2024.
Looks like a super short coaster that we always get in the UK, with the speed this thing is gonna be pulling it's gonna be 5 hours of queuing for 1 minute lift hill and 1 minute of coaster.
Still wanna ride it tho lol
Yes finally plans for another coaster at Thorpe. About time to. I'm so exited especially as not only will it be a Hyper coaster which will be great to have another Hyper coaster in the U.K but the U.K's tallest. I really hope everything goes to plan about this great news.

I think the three main manufacturers this could be from are Mack, Intamin and Vekoma. My money is on Mack though personally.

Do the public ever have a say in selecting new coaster names, or is this upto the park? Really looking forward to seeing/riding this. Thank you Shawn for the analysis.
"Coasty McCoast face"
Really think this is gonna be manufactured by B&M new retrack of nemesis, new B&M at chessington and possibly new B&M at Alton gotta be a special deal they have with B&M Three new coasters and a retrack (But I could be wrong ) 👍👍👍
Wondered if it S&S could be in the frame as Steel Curtain has some similar features, but the roll back is so noisy I hope for local residents they don't
We needed a new hyper, as much as I have a soft spot for the Big One as the first big coaster I did and BPB being my closest (so local, I'm in Northwest) park, it's starting to show it's age.
Also - a hyper with inversions!!!
A bit underwhelming, granted it's the tallest coaster in the UK, but surely if they were going for that record then they could've done something incredible (not a very short Rita ESC layout) especially after 10 years
I’d love to of seen it longer, however I’m sure we’re in for an intense ride!

Gonna be honest and say it looks pretty disappointing on paper/artist impressions etc. I just don't get our obsession with inversions on coasters here in the UK. Would have loved a full on airtime machine which is something we don't have here in the UK at present 🤷
Yup… no actual elite airtime anywhere. :/ sucks.
Bit disappointed they’re not getting a hyper! The UK need one...we need a UK coaster getting in people’s rankings like shambala and Thorpe is the perfect place for a hyper, would’ve gained more attention from abroad too...underwhelmed, but this thing looks like a beast either way
When will you start an new Planet Coaster series? I still can't wait for the roller coaster!
Still that roller coaster is *INSANE* not gonna lie.
It’ll be on the way in late January
Really don't see this as disappointing yes maybe it's not massive out and back giga or hyper but I'm sure Thorpe has had to look at many factors towards getting any plans or local conservation in place before plans was drawn up.
We have to remember Merlin & Thorpe are catering to its audience yes it's general public if it's looks big and thrilling they will come to ride it! Maybe for us hardcore coaster fans it won't be the thing we expected but I'm certainly looking forward to riding this in near future.
it looks so cool, can't wait to get a better idea of the actual layout from other angles!
This thing looks like it's going to be an absolute monster! Those elements are going to be ridiculously intense.
I think (it is just a theory) that the track will be made by gerstlauer if you look at the trackdesign
