Carmageddon is a vehicular combat video game released for personal computers in 1997. It was later ported to other platforms, and spawned a series of follow up titles. Carmageddon 64 was a port of Carmageddon II (originally for PC), and released for the Nintendo 64 in the year 2000. It was going to be published by Interplay, but Titus Interactive took it over (the same guys from Superman 64). It's a game where you race other cars... but it turns into mostly running over zombies, rather than people like in the original PC game. In the German version, you hit Dinosaur-like monsters rather than zombies. Go figure.

Carmageddon 2 was a true classic with boatloads of content, and with deformable models and damage physics years ahead of its time. Carmageddon 64 looks like an alpha demo that wouldn't even deserve to be on a magazine demo disc.

I prefer carmeggedon tdr 2000 to this 64 release even. I know it's not well liked but I really enjoy the other modes in the tdr

Comparing carmageddon to twisted metal doesn't really work. Vigilante 8 however does, and V8 wins for me!..
Also the PC version on c1/2 are all time classics and way ahead of their time!

Pc version was amazing. The physics and graphics were amazing at the time
Carpocalypse now was amazing!!!!!
The graphics aren't but the gameplay did age well imho.

@@_thechosen Ran just fine on my Pentium II 266, I'm guessing you were running it in software mode. Ideally you'd play it on a 3dfx Voodoo II card in glide but it also supported Direct3D.
"Slightly better than 'Big Rigs'" should've been the tag line for this game!
At least in Big Rigs, you could drive backwards up to infinite speed. Can't do anything so cool in Carmageddon 64.

I cannot thank James enough for keeping this series going. Just watching new episodes makes me feel as much childhood nostalgia as some of the games he reviews.

they named a character die anna and in the same year carmageddon came out (Specifically only two months after it was released), Princess Diana was killed in a car crash. Thats got to be a world record for shortest amount of time before something became insensitive

The series was not known for political correctness, especially the 2nd in the series. Everything was an innuendo or a leering tongue in cheek satire of current events that were relevant at the time. As I recall, the aircraft carrier in one level was named the S.S. Lewinsky.

The PC version is a classic loved by many. I was surprised that James is so unfamiliar with it, or it's just the AVGN character talking.

He's previously played the Nerd character up as someone who's totally new to modern gaming, most particularly in the Godzilla episode. James himself definitely isn't ignorant about non-console games.

Actually there's a PS1 game called "GET THE LICENSE Menkyo o torou" where you do just that
there is one certain far more popular game that does that. name's gran turismo.
I used to play this top down, I think German, driver license game, where you really had to stop at lights & follow the of roads law etc. It was awesome for some reason.

Theres a game called Cyber Drive where you do license test
There was a license simulator on PC back in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was really strict and didn’t let you have any fun with it, and the smallest imperfection in your driving made you start over each time. I forgot who made it, I think Sierra but I’m probably wrong.
Now someone has to create “Drivers license test: The game” so AVGN can play it

Both games were great. I can hardly recognise it from the port. That thing is awful.
James is even raging about some things which were actually fun features originally, like how the tracks are just a suggestion and not meant to be Mario kart. But that port is so awful, and he hasn't played the original so it's understandable that many features seem like bugs.
It's actually on mobile and the port isn't half bad. Made commutes fun and nostalgic.
At least it has more single player content than the majority of Smash Ultimate.
James has got to look at that game.
It's one of the most disappointing games to ever be made by Nintendo themselves (Right up there with the CDI games, Zelda 2, The Super Mario Bros Movie, Or shovelware they agreed to put on their consoles).
This honestly makes GTA online racing look like a masterpiece.
