Seeing him bitch slap the Gracies were some of my favorite MMA bouts. When a Gracie lost there was always an excuse but how can you call someone a coward when you backdown from their challenge?

It is a fight. nIf you fight to your opponents strength, you are no longer a fighter but a dumb ass mofo.. Gracies got beaten period. I used to wrestle but I preferred to box when fighting. I would not however go into a fight with a great boxer and box.

Imagine the AGONY ! A straight up broken arm is horrendous in real life, but to have one whilst you're fighting one of the most dangerous men on the planet is just unbelievable !
Gracey did not feel pain because he was in shock. If the fight had not been stopped, Sakuraba would have torn off the looser's hand. Kazushi is the best!

I remember watching the very first UFC matches on VHS... with the likes of Pat Smith, Royce Gracie, NINJAS, Sumo Wrestlers, barroom brawlers et al...but as soon as The Gracie Family found their niche, it got boring for me!
But now, after watching all these fights against the Gracies, it's ignited a new fire in me to start watching UFC again 👊😎🥊

I didn't like the Gracie clan only cuz watching UFC 1, 2, 3 etc, on vhs as a teen, their fights were so boring. So watching Sakuraba toying with Roycie now was pure joy;)

Honestly people are so easily hyped up. So with todays kickboxing or UFC the early days are easily forgotten. Same with the Gracie's they have been nothing but disrespectful to the art and most countries and fighters that hosted them. ''cosindering him a Japanse version of the Gracie family'' ar you kidding me!? Brazilian flavour added or not do not forget or disrespect where your true martial art roots come from. Even old man Gracie, showing up with a coffin in Japan on his first fight, that's the equivalent of throwing a shoe at a muslim. And even with their own rules when it came down to real fights (with no bs) they usually lost or Royce w/ his standard set of excuses afterwards. Weird how they gained such a fanbase since they're basically con artists. I am from The Netherlands and we had many legendary fighters in the early Muay thai and K-1 days but today it's so different and I am not fond of Rico, or consider him among those greats. You could probably find a decent oponent in a gym in Mexico or Cuba any day. Just a commercially hyped up posterboy on steroids to keep Glory's pockets filled. I don't feel like he is the true champion of the world. Luckily channels like these post and inform about the 'real' days. Do 1 about Peter 'Hurricane' Smit some day, he won the full contact karate tournament in Hawaii in the '80s and later beat Kiatsongrit in Thailand as the first ever foreigner to do so.

Why the hell would you choose to fight in a gi if you have a choice, it's literally a massive disadvantage. (Not that I have issues with martial arts with gis, my own has them, it's just, yeah obviously your opponent will use it against you)
yeah especially in a fight with no rules even an inferior fighter would have disrespected him using his gi
It helps in clinch so you don't get your head beat too severely, you can grab onto your own sleeves, sometimes assists in submissions and drys the sweat on an opponent so you can grab them more easily.

Sakuraba's wins were the proof of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu effectiveness. Pretty much all of the techniques he used, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu utilizes. He was simply a bigger and stronger fighter with great technique. He did not disprove anything about the Gracie system of Jiu-Jitsu. Fantastic fighter.

Sakuraba is a Catch as Catch Can wrestler. It's a far more aggressive approach of submission fighting and is more complete as they train a lot more in leg subs

Gracie Jiu-jitsu is awesome. It changed grappling to a degree and popularized Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Mixed Martial Arts becoming a sport, puts all fighting styles under the microscope. the main disciplines of the sport are Karate , Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. all fighters in the Sport have to have a basic understanding of BJJ or they won't get very far.
