Raymond Baily's real personality made his Mr. Drysdale character more realistic..

  • @bigfootmenaceormisundersto1479

Thought he did a great job portraying a character that had to balance his respect for wholesomeness of his clients vs putting out all the fires their naïveté caused. Let’s face it: some of the stuff they (especially Jethro & Granny) got up to would try anyone’s patience. Lol

Thank-You for your Videos. That's VERY SAD about Raymond Baily. No one knows what he went through with his Alzheimer's. He could have had it YEARS BEFORE anyone was aware of it!!!! I'm glad he at least had Nancy Culp to talk to. Rest In Eternal Peace Raymond.

If he had Alzheimer's Disease, I am sure that affected his personality for the worse. Thanks Bob!

I'm just an old obscure cow puncher from days gone by. I used to see Jed Clampett at Rotary Club meetings deep in the Ozark Mountains after he moved back home from Bev Hills. He never bad mouthed his old banker to us. Granny and I were sweethearts in grade school...if anyone cares....

Raymond created a memorable character, even if he wasn't the most pleasant person.

He's not the first actor to complain off camera. Robert Reed was another. I may have seen that article. My family used to buy The National Enquirer. Those papers could actually make it without the gossip stories. There are some good articles in between. Raymond Bailey's wife complained about him not getting mentioned in the reunion movie. It'd been interesting to hear how Miss Jane went from the bank to her government job. Colonel Klink's character was supposed to be a substitute for Mr. Drysdale.
I don't recall if any other actors from The Beverly Hillbillies ever guested on Barnaby Jones. You could do a video on classic TV about some other reunions. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease. It wasn't that well known or understood at the time. Rita Hayworth was apparently the first celebrity we knew who had it. Sadly, many diseases don't get taken seriously by most people until a celebrity is affected. He was a very talented actor and loved by many. Too bad his life ended like it did.

Certainly after the several seasons and towards the end, the dementia was affecting him.
    Thanks Bob

Great video about Mr. Drysdale. That Alzheimer's Disease is a killer

The altzhimers was probably a main factor in his personality problems. A friend's mom acted that same way once the disease started taking it's toll, even though she was kindly and gregarious before that.

That was an interesting bit of information. Although not a star, Mr. Bailey was certainly an actor that did a lot of work before TBH. He must be respected for that. He also appears to have been conservative and lived comfortably in his latter years. Also, apparently, he didn't marry until he was in his late forties and never had children. From the sounds of things, he wasn't a pure problem for the producer and other cast, but just a man with idiosyncrasies.

The longer the show lasted, the more greedy Mr.Drysdale became. He'd always panic whenever the Clampetts wanted to make an extra-large withdrawl.:-)

Absolutely! As an example, why didn’t he just go out and buy them a brand new car? He continued to let him drive around in the old truck, even though that was their preference. He made sure they had a nice house, but the truck was a mess!

C'mon, there's no way Uncle Jed and Granny would've agreed to replace their old truck.

He also wore a toupee on the show. I have him in so many old westerns with and without his toupee.

On TBH there seemed to be plenty of two character scenes . Ms Kulp & Bailey , Ebsen & Ms Douglas , Baer & Ms Ryan mainly . But also Ebsen & Bailey , Ebsen & Ms Ryan , Ms Douglas & Ms Ryan , Ebsen & Ms Kulp, Ebsen & Baer , Baer & Ms Kulp , Ms Ryan & Ms MacGibbon . Anyone in the regular cast & various guest stars . Whereas in a show like Three's Company there seemed to more ensemble scenes involoving most of the cast with fewer two character scenes .

If you look at the way Drysdale was portrayed, hewas a nice guy in the beginning,as the show progressed,he became more avaricious and meaner. The writers may have been showing how they viewed Raymond Bailey.

He sounds like the male version of Aunt Bea. Both very temperamental.

  • @garryw.robertsmusicandmore2359

Alzheimer's would explain a lot about he grumpy and difficult he was. It has to be a frightening disease.

I always thought Raymond Bailey was good looking. He was funny as Drysdale. I sure wouldn't consider being called Slim an insult! LOL.

  • @Insomnious8
    @Insomnious8 Před 4 měsíci

Raymond Bailey greatly disliked Buddy Ebsen which was mutual.. He couldn't have been surprised he received no work from Ebsen. Ebsen was the star of the show and incredibly tactless. Initially Milburn Drysdale was a straight character who only reacted to the outlandish behavior of the Clampetts. As the show progressed, the Drysdale character was expanded into a comical greedy, cheap and obsessively pandering banker to the Clampetts. Ebsen would object to the expansion of Bailey's character at script readings which permanently affected their relationship.

  • @i-a-g-r-e-e-----f-----jo--b

Maybe he got into character too much? BTW, in a reunion film Drysdale takes all of Jed's money and he has to move back to the hills, lol.
