[ Full Review: www.mpgomatic.com/2010/08/12/2... ]
The 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (EVO) MR Touring is equipped with a 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC turbocharged and intercooled inline four producing 291 horsepower (HP) and 300 foot pounds of torque.
The EVO MR Touring is only available with a six-speed twin-clutch TC-SST automatic transmission. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
this is the best video review for this car in existence.
Well done!
by far a great review everyone else sucks at reviewing this car but i would like to see you review the gsr 5 speed model
@MangoSmoothie16 The EVO GSR is fitted with a five-speed manual for the purists. You have to drive the TC-SST-equipped cars to fully appreciate them.
I've been driving manual cars for thirty years (scary thought that is), and still do. But once you experience how fast the dual-clutch autos can snap through gears, it's eye-opening.
Nice Dan.. Should have put the camera in cockpit view through some twisties.
@pjtart I'd reckon they moved the fluids and battery for weight (balance) and to have more room under the hood. Heat might have something to do with it, as well. (just guessing)
I love this car soo much. One of my favorites. Good review.
@Sweett0oth12 Yes, the paddle/slapstick just gives you the "semi-manual" option so you can shift when you want to. Otherwise it runs fully automatic.
Looking to buy one but i want to know if it breaks easily like others cars
@mpgomatic Its a plug and play factory part in the MR TOuring. If yours came without you can get it for $2,000.00...
great review
As usual, very concise and solid review. The MR is pretty darn nice. A good alternative to a stick if you live in a trafficky area. But who REALLY wants an alternative...lol.
I just drove a Evo MR and damn it's quick from a stop. Torque comes fast on this car. Doesn't seem it has great top end speed but from a dig it's awesome.
@TheSmartdude11 DVD? This was an early production car and lacks the later updates to the Mitsubishi Multimedia system. We just tested a 2010 Outlander with the latest and greatest system ... should have that video up in the coming weeks.
I love how purpose built this car is, no "Adjusting seats, comfort mode, econ mode..." or any of the crap you see today. Not saying adjustable seats are bad, but this is definitely the purist approach.
@skyline9878 Probably mate, My appologies if thats what you meant, Im here in ireland and I would say that we are talking about 2 different models then, as I know for Fact, the Evo X was only released here in europe with the SST Transmission, which as you know is automatic.
So appologies if we got our wires crossed!
@Sweett0oth12 Well you can downshift when you want to. Most "semi-manuals" mean it runs in automatic pretty much all the time BUT you have control of when to shift gears. A good example is this: just the usual slowing down before a stoplight, just press the brakes and it automatically downshifts for you. Next example, you're on the highway doing 65 and come up on a slow car you need to pass, so you can "manually" downshift to launch pass the car. Hope this helps!
@superjervis they also added struts and springs.. mr nowadays is just like getting more luxury options with a few performance enhancements. even the sti spec r (compared to a normal sti) comes with a sunroof, leather trim, sat nav and 10 speakers but doesn't come with any performance parts.
@ShaneRaweewon thanks for the reply, i also heard that running it in semi manual mode it downshifts for you on braking so all you have to do is upshift...is this true
During sport mode, is it possible to use the stick by just going up and down rather than using the paddle shift?
@IrishStar Dude. GSR or RS was Manual 5 speed and MR had 6 speed in the VIII and IX. The MR X came with the SST which is an automanual transmission. I know since I have a 2010 MR. I did my research. You may be confused since It sounds you are not from the states. In the States, the MR only came with the SST automanual transmission starting the EVO X. Again, I have 2010 MR, there is no clutch pedal. It is paddle shift, or completely automatic.
Looks really good without the usual big spoiler
@fiveironfrenzy1 Thanks for the kind words! The EVO is one of our favorites rides ... would love to have one in the garage ...
is the TC-SST like the dsg tranny that when in drive leaks forward or like m3's smg that has the full manual feel and actually has clutch engagement
is this a good everyday driver?
love d design noise everything about it but how long would it last as a everyday driver?
whats the difference between the GSR and the MR
@TheVtieg6 the gsr does apparantly. I dont know that much. I like the touring package though
no boost gauges?
thanks for the review. :)
@tadentt GSR is the base model with manual tranny (twin clutch is very much worth it btw)
so this is the step up from the regular Evo X ?
@laklouk16 It's Phantom Black.
Is there a package where u can get a GSR wing on an MR?
how loud is the stock BOV on this car?
Good review, But I don't think someone buying the evo would be bothered about mileage.
@Mirron1
To help with weight distribution.
Why did u disable the ratings?
@mpgomatic Oh. I thought they still offered it. I have driven the dual clutch and they do shift split second but I dont race so im not worried about that. I like the 4, 5 or 6 speed with clutch
Main difference, GSR has 5-speed manual. MR has 6-speed double clutch. MR interior is much more refined though. Also MR doesn't have massive spoiler.
@mpgomatic Thanks! I actually got the SE version, not the MR, but they're not far off. I do watch my foot though...can't be wasting the gas all the time when it's over $4.50/gallon.
Is there a manual version of this car? if there is, why didn't you test that one instead?
@xxxn7zxxx how badly do you think he hit you? speed-wise. Would you consider it "safe?"
@drumlleycult89 Congrats on the new ride! The EVO is a hoot to drive, whether you're driving it with a light or a heavy foot. :)
@mpgomatic how can u update the nav unit?
How is the rockford fosgate sub?
do u guys rent the cars to review em?
I hope in the future Subaru will give you a 2011 STi Sedan to test out. That would be cool!
@dregsta Because it is. You can' get lambo performance at 40 grand without cutting somewhere.
Just got one of these, but didn't buy it thinking I was getting some sort of fuel efficient sedan lol. Absolutely love the car! (it's my first car that I've owned!)
I don't want to sound like a car noob but are there any Mitsubishi evos without stick shift?
"Double Clutching" and "granny shifting" are both lines from one of the old fast and the furious movies hahaha.
Normally I only like domestic cars, but this is one car that I just have to love. It's awesome looking and awesome performing!
@MrGTR1988 How so? It's pretty good for a fast car.
@pjtart This is a purpose-built car. Alas, hauling cargo isn't at the top of its list. The Lancer Sportback Ralliart provides much of the EVO's performance, while allowing for plenty of cargo.
Having the transmission in normal instead of S-Sport? did I win something? :P
ya that would be a nice feature
@pjtart Weight distribution.
@laklouk16 Colour*?
@mpgomatic Phantom makes it sound awesome
@Sweett0oth12 And actually yes it does downshift for you when braking because then you don't have to worry about rev-matching when going down, it should do it flawlessly on a good tranny.
@CaptObvious75 I'm just going by what I've heard from people and read on consumer reports. Your mistubishi is only a year old so you shouldn't see any problems with it right now, but you might start having some problems in a couple more years!
@superjervis Yeah I ask myself that too. Hate how the MR became the lux trim...not the race trim.
I want to see a classic duke em' out with the STi.
5 spd manual on gsr
GSR aka the legendary evo is lighter and much faster than MR and that's because it doesn't have the tech package and also you can get the 6speed m/t;
however MR has the tech package like stereo system, navigation and etc...but it loses the big spoiler on the back and the only transmission on MR is 6speed auto...
One of the most under-rated sports cars on the market. Too bad. It can out perform and mostly out handle cars that cost twice as much. I heart EVO.
@IrrepressibleGuile Umm...not at all. It's a full recirc BoV so there will be no whoosh sound without a aftermarket VTA BoV.
@IrishStar It always had a manual gearbox. Do your research. GSR always manual, MR automanual.
@skyline9878 Actually no it didn't mate when it was first released it only had the SST Transmission, so yeah, do your own research.
oh yeah, it dose have an option to add 6spd DCT, but still it is faster than MR.
@Jezthevalley I'm 22, so not a rich "kid". I've worked my butt of to get this car. but thanks.
@mpgomatic i had the same car, i bought it yesterday and it was great!!!
while i was going back home, a non-licensed kid crashed my car at 97 mph, i didnt believe tht i survived this but my car is totally destroyed :'(
DREAM CAR!!
what a wicked machine!!!!
@ttcro22 Its not a automatic.
@kyle51895 I'm a subaru driver, but this car in this color without the coffee cart on the trunk looks sharp.
why is there fluids in the trunk thats dumb......
In the process of buying these off the show room floor now..
@myamericanpie thank ya, appreciate u also calling me a noob too, really clever there
This is the MR, not the GSR
'mr' stands for 'mitsubishi racing' so then why did they put a 9 speaker system,that therefore adds weight and defeats the whole purpose of the 'mr' badge.
Double clutch a DSG, it has no clutch. It has a pseudo launch control, but you should not use an MR for drag racing, you need a GSR model for that, but the MR will kick the GSR ass in any other race type.
@NancyPelosi1954 I meant compared to vehicles today.
pretty fast, pretty good mpg, sounds pretty good, looks pretty good, but its only available in auto. WHY????
you got not to 60 in 5? how are you driving? double clutching? granny shifting? like come on it can get 4 seconds if you know how to drive
is that a fast and the furious reference
@mpgomatic i had this car and i had been totaled by a drunken guy. the traffic light was green and then he was speeding and hit my car from the passenger side along with my engine :( i was bleeding like hell and broke my arm. and now i have 1 ball left to live.. i have the exact same color and everything and now it's wrecked!
Double clutching (as referenced in fast and furious movies) is pointless on modern transmissions because the greats are synchronized. It is even more pointless to fault someone for driving the evo with an sst, it has already proven to be an advantage on a track with actual turns...
Seeing as double clutching would not only be pointless, but impossible in this car. Also, try broadening your scope of movies beyond the 1st Fast & Furious...
They will never discontinue the EVO in my opinion.. However, they are planning on making it a Hybrid for 2012. Why you ask? b/c they want to cut back on fuel consumption. Some say that that decision will downgrade the EVO, thus losing it's rally breed heritage. Who knows? Let's wait for 2012 and see.
WoooooW!!!!
i realy love this car :D
I have such a heavy foot, that would be tough to keep it light lol
@xxxn7zxxx Sorry to hear about the wreck, that's a bummer. I hope he had insurance and can cover your loss. Drunks just need to man up and hand the keys over. Cars can be replaced, lives and limbs can't.
@flatblackstrat Next time! =)
@xxxn7zxxx Yeah these new lancer are pretty good. I know three people in RAs that totalled them...one in a crazy 5 car pile up and they all could walk away.
Tell me how to granny shift and double clutch this transmission and you win a prize.
@Streetbikechamp Heh, thanks. When it warms up, I'll see if I can get some tractors and lawn mowers in to review. :)

Just kidding ...
it's a nice car at a good price, but I know these have too many reliability issues
@CaptObvious75 50k kilometers isn't that much but we'll see. I mean if my car had any problems within 100k kilometers I would be pissed. Again, i have nothing against mitsubishi, it's just that the word is that their cars are not too reliable. THis one looks nice though!
It's an automatic you derp. You can't double clutch very easily in one of those.
dude, its an automatic -,-
