I had a hard time as well. You need to position yourself like the guy in the instructions...then where the opening is, the mesh overlaps..there is a seam that runs up to the point of the tent. Right at that seam (the middle point of the overlapping mesh) there is an opening of 3 inches +/- to slide the rod in. If you are holding to top of the tent the hole is located at the top of the white band, not underneath. I hope this helps

Try it with day light, it is really tricky. We did it outside, it was much easer to see it.

It is hard to find, just go slowly around with good light and you will find it. It overlapping and visible so much.

What an absolute piece of contstruction garbage!!!!! Would it have noy been easier to mark the entry point for the rod? wates of time and money.
