This is just a glimpse to what a perfectionist he was! What's amazing is that he heard all the strings, drums and all the melody in his head then he would make sounds with his mouth on tape and the producer had to translate it exactly what he heard in his head, that's amazing to me!
Fun fact, the song Michael hums and bangs his pencil to is one of his unreleased songs titled: “Serious Effect” It was considered for the Dangerous album, but later scraped. You can find the song on CZcams.
You should react to his 1993 deposition when they were suing him saying he "stole" their songs or the 1994 court audio when a woman was accusing Michael of stealing her song Dangerous it's like 40 minutes long but it is really fascinating! He even does beat boxing to show how he creates his music, it's hilarious but really amazing to hear about his creative process! (He won every suit obviously 😂)
I have this video on my channel in specific and it got leaked this footage. But it’s so amazing to see MJ’s mixing & mastering process cause it’s rare that we get a chance to see that side of Michael as MJ fans cause most of his recording process is in his Estate vault and they’re holding onto the footage for the right time etc. but peep at 6:52 MJ starts playing w/ his pencil and humming the beat to his unreleased song w/ LL Cool J titled “Serious Effect”😆🤌🏽👑🔥✨(His sense of rhythm was phenomenal he was the true embodiment of music itself!)
It's hard to find this stuff on the internet so I really appreciate the behind the scenes footage showing the creative process. So many of his interviews were all about tabloid BS and not enough people delved into his genius!
When he was humming and beating with pencil, Seph, he was actually humming a song he did with LL Cool J, it was a song called “serious effect!” I think you haven’t listened to that song yet. You may enjoy it!
That's probably a track sheet that Michael is making notes on. The track sheet details what's been recorded on each of the tracks on the multitrack tape being used here. And it sounds like they are reviewing the different vocal takes on each track to determine the best ones. This is a good peek inside the monotony and tedium of the recording process. In my old band we got some professional studio time (this was in the early 90s) and my bandmate invited one of his buddies to stop by the studio. That dude arrived thinking he was showing up at a rock concert and quickly became bored and left after he saw a scene much like the one we see here. It's really a meticulous process to put together a well produced piece of music. People often talk about Alan's role in Depeche Mode as the studio geek, putting in the time and effort to construct and shape the songs we have all come to love. Whereas Martin didn't have a lot of interest in this tedium, to say nothing of Dave and Andy. It's a very particular personality type that has the interest in really rolling up one's sleeves and putting in the countless hours, days, and weeks to craft and record a great song and album. And in the end, Alan clearly didn't feel his contributions had been properly recognized by the others in the band. Btw, I loved when you gave us insight into your own recording and editing process. When I watch your videos I often think about the amount of time that you put into these to make them as good as they are. As I like to say, these things don't make themselves!
I totally understand what these people had to go through to get their music out to the masses! The longest time i spent editing and recording footage was for my White Christmas reaction. No joke that thing took me *HOURS* to do. and it was a nightmare. So i have soooooooooooooooooooo much respect for the people who edit songs and music videos that obviously take longer then a simple reaction video and probably more man power too. Major Respect to editors!
@@SephPlays As soon as you mentioned a video that took you hours to edit, I immediately thought, "Oh, I bet that was one of his 'evil twin' reactions." So I just pulled up the Elvis Presley "White Christmas" video and sure enough it is! That one is easily one of your finest pieces of work. I even commented on it at the time betting that it had to have been a challenge to make. The script writing. The multiple shoots. The synchronizing, combining, and editing of the different shots. It made my head spin a bit just thinking about how complex this was to do. It even required a second camera operator to capture the bit where you answer the door. Incredibly well executed! I particularly like when at the end you describe to your "evil twin" how "what you do is you get into a place of happiness and you listen to an amazing song. And then it sort of builds up and it goes, 'It's a banger!'" And then your "evil twin" tries it out and explodes! Very funny! Super friggin' sweet! Oh, and when your "evil twin" starts texting a friend while you're describing your thoughts about the song! Classic! It's the video that i show to people who ask "So Seph? What do you do on youtube?" haha All in all there was nearly 2 hours of footage of me dressed as my evil twin i had to edit down haha. fun fact: No scripts was used "I'm terrible at remembering lines" so everything was just improvised off the top of my head. This is also the reason i will never be able to be an actor or even join a pantomime "it's my terrible memory" i'm not even joking when i say i can't remember something i read an hour ago. I've had offers to act in my local theatre but i've had to turn them down. It's sad because i would absolutely love to do that :( and freakkinnnn hell i just watched the video again and yep i was a smidge under 238 pounds there roughly xD
@@SephPlays That one nicely highlights your skills and talents. I'm even more impressed now that I know you shot nearly 2 hours of improvised "evil twin" footage. What tenacity that shows! Atlas stones and what not. How tall are you? bet you are taller then me haha
The songs are sung 50 times, for example, and each line of text is numbered. At the end, we listen through line by line and then select the most suitable ones and cut them together at the end. The verses are therefore not sung through in one go but put together as a kind of puzzle and the result is what we hear in the finished song. This is common practice in the music industry and not something Michael did exclusively. The recordings seen are not from some secret Jackson estate vault but are private recordings made by Michael's sound engineer at the time, Brad Sundberg. We owe it to a thief who stole Brad's laptop at one of his "inthestudiowithmj" events that we are allowed to watch this.
this video is a prime example to why many famous singers refuse to listen to their own music in their downtime. if you worked on a group of songs for as many hours and for many times as the artists do, you wouldn't want to listen to it either. but the fans love it, so that is most important.

When you listen to MJ doing vocal warm-ups with his vocal coach Seth Riggs you can hear him unwrapping some candy and putting it into an empty cup. I've heard he used to put Ricola in water and drink it as a way to prevent his vocal chords from taking damage, but I don't know if that's true.

1:14 It's a whole puzzle. They make hundreds and hundreds of takes, and they select the best ones. He writes down the numbers of the best takes, not the notes. You might not know this, but Michael didn't play any instruments apart from his voice, and it is said that he couldn't read notes. He had everything in his mind.
@@erenyeeagah204didn’t he play drums on morphine? That’s all I’m aware of but no doubt he had the ability, probably just more of a hobby than something serious for him though.
Yes, he played the piano, drums and guitar. In fact, in the song Morphine plays drums and the second guitar (Slash plays the first guitar). Morphine It is heartbreaking because MJ predicts what his own death would be like a few years later. 🥺
@@cateyes-lf5ro I can hardly listen to that song it makes me so emotional. He literally captured the emotion and experience of abusing drugs as well as dealing with someone who abuses drugs. It's honestly a breathtaking song, just hard to listen to without crying.
Youre right. On his old songs, he would have to do the whole song per take. Even up to thriller and BAD i think they did it in the old school way. And if they did have multiple takes, it was pretty tiresome to stich the individual tapes together. All the takes for thriller for example leaked on youtube. You can hear him figure out the vibe and song and also the process of him developing his own new style of singing. Anyways with the start of the digital age in the 90s things changed obviously and MJ always wanted to have the newest cutting edge technology available. And if something didnt exist yet, he would even push and invest for them develop it further. Like the morphing effects at the end of the black or white music video.
Hi Seph, I love your MJ reactions.❤ Reminds me of when I became a fan 6 years ago and discovered all this footage of him for the first time.😊 I have two recommendations for you for the dangerous era: First is a deposition MJ did in Mexico in '93. Somebody had sued him claiming he'd stolen songs so he had to go to court for a day and refute that. The tape is 3 hours long but don't worry. The interesting, reaction-worthy part is just about 30 minutes (08:41 til about 40:00) where he explains in detail how he wrote "The girl is mine". Even if that song is not your favorite - believe me you're gonna love this. czcams.com/video/c1uyuSB6Lm4/video.htmlsi=TkMGVS5-AGTDAhM3 My second rec is MJ's interview with Oprah in '92.
