Yessssss! You finally got to this song!! This is my personal favorite from him because during a real hard time in my life I used to hear it a lot and kinda sung it to him, asking him to be there for me in a spiritual way.
Regarding the impact that he should have had you will understand along your journey that he started to write more and more about social and environmental issues and that bothered a lot of people. So, the allegations came, the media started to ridicule him even more. He became a target. The world did not understand that this man was all about love, togetherness, peace and healing the world. He was and still is so much more than a performer…
Thank you for your reactions! Love MJ for ever! ❤

“Will You Be There” Is the eighth single from MJ’s 1991 album “Dangerous”, doubling as the main theme for Free Willy, appearing on the movie’s soundtrack. The prelude to the song features featuring the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus performing the last movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Opus 125: Presto. Will You Be There ~ Is about God, MJ’s asking him for help and if he’ll be there and stay with him during the tough times he was going through in that period of his life, also how folks in the world was against him,he’s asking God to save him. And he mentions River Jordan in the beginning of the song, and says things like carry me,lead me,show and I will be there like he wants a spiritual rebirth or he feels like this is a turning point in his life where he’s asking for freedom.🥹🙌🏽👑🤍💕🌟(This song always pulls at my heart strings and hearing MJ’s voice is unmatched filled with soul, passion, power, emotion & just pure love/carefulness no overly technical singing like most singers are and this song perfectly displays MJ’s AdLibs they’re so majestic yet so powerful these are the best AdLibs I’ve ever heard in any song ever his vocals are unmatched MJ Is The Greatest Singer/Vocalist Of All Time Long Live The King Of Music Forever! Vince Patterson directed two music videos for "Will You Be There". The official video included Jackson performing the song during various stops of the Dangerous World Tour while scenes from Free Willy centering around the friendship of Jesse and Willy are shown. The original VHS copies of Free Willy included the music video prior to the film. The second video from Dangerous: The Short Films contained the full length of MTV's 10th Anniversary special performance intercut with the Dangerous World Tour footage and footage of the fans.)

@@Carol-dq8nj Please, don't distort my words, of course gospel music is not something just for black people, but let's be honest and go back a little in the history of music - gospel, which contains potentially black roots and cultures. And another, he was always inserted into this reality, since he was little, his mother sang in the church choir, and later, he himself sang too... I don't think there's anything very wrong with that comment. In fact, if you want to talk about "Michael's messages", just take a look at what he says and presents about roots and culture, and how much this influenced him throughout his career.

To be honest, you kind of chopped the intro up completely - no wonder you couldn't feel it?! I get that you were confused and MJ's creativity demands a bit more openess of the listener, than most artists'. But now when you got the feel from the song, got the message, go back and listen again. It really goes well hand-in-hand and is quite self-explanatory, I promise you. (It's all for L.O.V.E.)
@e.s.7272 already wrote about the message of the Beethoven 9th symphony in an excellent comment below, so no point in me doing it again. That piece has both grandeur, celebration and sensitivity; then add the tentativeness of the notes leading into the main part of the song...the wonder, hope, doubt and plead of a single person, understanding we could all live in oneness and bliss but not knowing how to shoulder it...
It is a spiritual song. God, a spirit guide, oneness, what it will take for people to unite. MJ had already left Jehovas a few years ago, here. I don't know if they had started to study with Deepak Chopra yet, but they did during the early 90s. It is also a brave song, about the braveness of stripping oneself down completely and ask someone else for help, for closeness, to be loved and seen and to get to trust someone entirely. Asking God is one thing, but if we are trying for it here on Earth, we must ask eachother (or God in every person).
I dare you. It's a quite chilling exercise, to try and sincerely read out this lyric to someone close...or in lack of that, while thinking of someone you used to have close, as if you were reading to them. To -with the genuinity and longing of the song - really ask them:
Would you hold me like the river Jordan? - I am your friend. - Would you carry me like you were my brother and love me like a mother would? Will you be there? Even when it's weary? Will you keep on holding me? When I'm wrong will you scold me? Would you find me when I get lost? Also when I'm not perfect, when I'm not enough, when I do my best but am faulty? In my anger and frustration? When I'm hurting? Although I'm confused and can't find any right choices by those showed onto me...will you be there for me and care enough to bear me? Would you love me? Feed me? Kiss me? Free me? Heal me and bathe me? and so on. It's a brave, brave ask, in a brave, brave song; encouraging people to completely drop their shields and open up for true communitty, in a very concrete way.
Michael Jackson dedicated this song to their fans. In the end, they were asking us. And leading us by doing so.

Michael actually quit being a Jehovah's Witness in 1987, here's a little story if you'd like to know why:
As you must know Michael used to always read the Bible with his mother and attended meetings at Kingdom Hall, even with his fame and money in the 80s, still going door to door to spread the word, in disguise, the problems really began after the release of Thriller, they reprimanded him after the Motown 25 performance where he performed Billie Jean, the church told him that the dance was "dirty" and that he "should stop immediately", he apparently said privately: "I told them '99% of dancing is moving the waist', but they still said, 'we don't want you to do it', so I went around for a long time trying to dance without moving this part of my body". Then the Thriller video, the elders didn't like the fact that he transformed into a werewolf and then a zombie: "When I made Thriller with all the ghouls, they said it was demonic and part of the occult." "Brother Jackson can't do it". He wanted to cancel the Thriller video, he had damnnear a breakdown and cried and told all his managers/promotion team/his people to destroy the Thriller video tapes, I believe his lawyer or someone in the production finally convinced him not to and that's why he put that wanring at the start of the video. He still cut all the Thriller promotion even though the song was still in its hype phase. Despite the awards and the amazing reception from the public, in 1984, Michael said this about the video to the magazine "Awake": "I would never do it again. I just intended to do a good, fun short film, not to purposefully bring to the screen something to scare people, or to do anything bad. I want to do what's right, I realize now that it wasn't a good idea. I have blocked further distribution of the film over which I have control, including its release in some other countries. There's all kinds of promotional stuff being proposed on Thriller, but I tell them, 'No, no, no more Thriller'".
Still, the elders couldn't accept his apology because of his growing status, they thought ambition and wanting fame was wrong and that idolizing humans was not christian. Apparently when he won 8 Grammys in 1984, the next day they gave him an ultimatum, that he must choose between music or the religion, Michael tried to talk to them by reciting Bible verses that supported his view that entertaining people was not wrong, he said: "I still go door to door wherever I am, even if I'm on tour, I can't help it if people hang up my poster on their wall or tear my picture out of a magazine. I don't ask them to idolize me, I just want them to enjoy my music", Michael always thanked God in every interview and gave all the credit to him, still they could not separate his music from his way of living, in his 1988 book Moonwalk, he wrote: "Sundays were sacred for two other reasons as I was growing up, they were both the day that attended church and the day that I spent rehearsing my hardest. This may seem against the idea of 'rest on the Sabbath', but it was the most sacred way I could spend my time, developing the talents that God gave me. The best way I can imagine to show my thanks, is to make the very most of the gift that God gave me."
Even on the Victory tour, Michael was still going door to door, and even hired someone to find a Kingdom Hall in each town, so that he wouldn't miss a meeting, he did everything possible to show his dedication and said he felt sad that he couldn't worship like anyone else, he wrote: "When circumstances made it increasingly complicated for me to attend, I was comforted by the belief that God exists in my heart, and in music, and in beauty, not only in a building. I still miss the sense of community that I felt there, the people who treated me like I was simply one of them, simply human, sharing a day with God." Then, when he was doing Bad, the elders started pressuring Michael again, they thought the publicity the church was getting just because of him was doing them damage, Michael was very criticized for what was known as "worldly" or "sinners" behaviors. Michael was just now finally getting his independence and freedom after leaving the Jacksons and without his father's influence on his life and career, he didn't want to be controlled anymore and felt he couldn't balance his career and the church and that they were "too strict". He said: "Certain things that I did as an artist in my music, I didn't realize I was crossing a line with them, and when they chastised me, it really hurt me. It almost destroyed me."
The last straw ended up being the Smooth Criminal video, where Michael fired a machine gun, the ammunition team helped Michael on how to hold it and fire it, people in there said he was having fun with it, like a little boy playing army. His make up artist Karen Faye said that the next morning Michael came in the trailer very upset, she said: "His eyes welled up in tears, he said, 'Mother called me last night, the church' called her and told her I held and fired a gun yesterday, they ordered that I have to make a decision, either I leave the church, or leave my career', Michael was weeping as he said those words". Karen asked Michael what his mother advized him to do, and he said that she was "horrified", but that at the end of the day, the decision was up to him. So basically that's what happened, on May 1987 Michael quit being a Jehovah's Witness, but still he was almost 30 by that point and some things taught were already into his mind pretty much his whole life, so what do you think Seph? Do you think it was a good thing that he did? I definitely think so, personally I have nothing against anyone who has any religion but to me, I believe in a higher power but I'm not part of any religion, I think maybe it can help some people but it also can brainwash others, and I don't want to feel trapped by can't do this, can't do that, serms like it's way too much, what really matters is what's in your heart, in my opinion, as long as you do good and don't hurt anybody, what do you think?

That piano is something special in this piece. If you want a special version of this listen to Will you be there immortal version. I hate remixes for the most part but Michael Jackson The Immortal mixes are superb. Reason is they kept it simple, only accenting certain things keeping the essence of it all. Not taking away. Almost as if they imagined if Michael edited for the stage etc. Love the will you be their immortal version

Omgggg finallyyy!!! This is definitely my favorite one from the album!! If not my favorite of his period 😍😍 I guess it is a prayer but for some reason whenever I listen to this song I can't help but think that it's like Michael's inner child speaking, like that lonely little boy just wanting to be held and cared for, craving for the love that he never got from his father and it hurts my heart 💔💔😭 especially because in the 2000s on a private tape which hopefully you'll react to (poor Michael couldn't even talk without being secretely recorded but it's a great insight to who he truly was), he confessed that he only continued wanting to be great as an artist and more successful because all he ever wanted was love, he just "wanted people to truly love him because he never really felt loved", that he was hoping he could change his father and make him love him and accept him, and get love from other people, makes me wish I could protect him, his father was so cruel and cold 😢😢 maybe it's just me, but anyway I'm so happy that you liked this song, it's truly beautiful but sooo emotional ❤❤😢

Michael loved classical music. Tchaikovsky had a huge influence. Michael said in an Ebony interview: "It was Tchaikovsky that influenced me the most. If you take an album like Nutcracker Suite, every song is a killer, every one. So I said to myself, ‘Why can’t there be a pop album where … every song is a hit?’ So I always tried to strive for that."

Hi Seph, at the beginning, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus play a portion from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The segment is from the fourth movement and is a lesser known portion of the famous "Ode to Joy". The German lyrics were written by the German poet Friedrich Schiller. It was a celebratory poem addressing the unity of all mankind. 'It is an appeal, a longing for brotherhood, for joy and jubilation, for the utopia of world peace, for a world without wars and destruction.'
This classical introduction is followed by the Andrae Crouch Singers. It is the same choir as in "Man In The Mirror".

This song always make me tear up; I swear if anyone doesn't feel this song they're dead inside, his voice can make you feel, that's the beauty about Michael, no matter what your religion is and what you believe in but I think we all can relate to what he says in this song, we all feel confused in some point in our lives, we all need someone to be there for us, and I'm not even talking God specifically ❤

My favorite song on the album ❤❤❤ it just touches my heart and soul deeply, whenever I listen to it it almostt feels like I go to a completely different place, that's the definition of spiritual, I love how vulnerable he is; very soulful, I think the beginning was just to set a mood or add to the atmosphere of the song; nothing more than that, I understand it's a little different but I think it's beautiful and really goes well with the song actually, you should listen to it again, maybe you will appreciate it more, sometimes it doesn't have to make sense, you just need to feel it ☺️

What you said at the end is so sad but it's true :( he gave so much to the world... I think this can be about people too, once the first extortion attempt happened, the ones who he thought were his friends disappeared and left him, and actually in 2005 during the trial, his lawyer, Tom said Michael was incredibly isolated and scared, not knowing who to trust, he said Michael used to call him at night crying begging for him to not let the media pay him off and to "please don't leave him" 😢😢 his lawyer is amazing and he still believes in Michael's innocence and even 15 years after his death he defends him, fortunately he had the loyalty of his friends Macaulay Culkin and Chris Tucker, who testified for him during the most difficult time in his life, even though everyone was telling them not to do so and that if they got involved it would "damage their career", but all the other celebrities who were at the memorial after he died, where were they when he was being crucified??

Does this guy not understand how music works? The fact he’s stunned hearing a full orchestra and choir as an intro is mind boggling. And then saying for Michael having choir and classical pieces in soft music in his pieces shows he doesn’t know MJ, nor really have a full understanding and appreciation for musical compositions is crazy. Let music be, don’t over analyze

I can answer this for you, Seph. This choir in particular is known as the Andrae Crouch Choir. The main genres of music the choir is recognized in are Gospel and Contemporary Christian. The choir has been featured on a handful of Michael's songs including this one. The choir can also be heard on "Man In The Mirror", "Keep The Faith", "Earth Song", "Morphine", and "Cry". Out of all of these songs, I've always felt that it wasn't really necessary for them to be on "Morphine". That's just my opinion and any is welcome to disagree with that. The choir sounds great on all of the others. Everyone has their own preferred favorite songs by Michael. I'm no different. If I had a Top 5 list of favorite songs by Michael, "Will You Be There" would stand at #1.
