The problem with England is that there is no real identity or defined way of playing. They don’t press, they don’t counter attack, they don’t play through transitions, they don’t even play long ball. It’s just very reliant on individual moments from one or two players combining, maybe a set piece or crosses here and there but overall it’s impossible to make any observations tactically about this team because nothing is happening. I would wager the players have no confidence in Southgate’s instructions and that’s reduced them to this nervous and disjointed mess.
