Trick is, apply for a few cards, keep them locked up at home and only assign each one a single monthly autopay bill, like netflix, water bill etc. Have them set up to pay in full each month. Call every year or sow to up your credit limit, but never spend it. Boom! An amazing credit score for home and car loans. Then pay off those loans way ahead of schedule to save interest. What I find the worst about credit cards (as someone who used to do customer service for a credit card company) is how predatory they are. If you can pay the whole thing off in full every month, then you can enjoy the benefits without too much hassle. If you can't though, that's when they get you. The APR and fees add up pretty fast and can drown you if you're not careful. I saw so many people trapped on that debt treadmill. Some were putting their whole paycheck onto the card, then turning around to take it back as a cash advance (with fees and unavoidable higher APR taking a chunk out every month). Others were making minimum payments and still had their cards perpetually overlimit because the APR would erase any progress their payments made. Adding to the "fun", making a payment, then turning around and taking the funds out as a cash advance happens to hit some of the red flags for criminal activity, so people counting on having that money available to pay their rent and other bills would get a nasty surprise when the bank put a random 3-10 day hold on the funds.

I once worked at a business process outsourcing company. One of our clients was one of those identity theft protection services. They'd have the customer fill out a form with all of the sensitive information they wanted to protect - all of their credit card numbers, etc. - and send it to this outsourcing company to be processed by data entry clerks making subsistence wages.
How hard would it have been to steal that information? Not very. Even if a facility enforces rules against phones and writing utensils, the reality is that it's not that hard to memorize a social security or CC number.
It always seemed crazy to me that people were paying a company to collect all their sensitive financial info and show it to poor people. And all that company actually promised to do was monitor chat rooms and let you know if your info was stolen.

My experience working closely with merchant processing led me to believe that credit cards are a giant grift, whether or not they're used responsibly. If you are paying off your credit card every month and getting cashback or other benefits, you are getting free money. Except there's no such thing as free money. You're benefiting from a non-governmental tax that is imposed on almost all American commerce by mostly just four companies: Visa, MasterCard, fucking American Express, and Discover. I've seen small businesses buckle under processing fees.
On principle I have never had a credit card. They don't even make sense as a concept, unless you actually need a loan.
I don't care that this is the way the system works, or that I could be slightly better off if I contribute to the problem. I'm doing just fine without participating in this lunacy.

If you want to build good credit, get a card and use it to pay your regular bills and then pay it off each month. You might not be able to do that with rent depending on how you pay, but gas, food, utilities, all take cards, so instead of using a bank card, get a credit card and track it with a bank book and stay within budget. Companies HOPE you will overspend and get stuck with interest payments, but you don't have to if you stay within your budget, plus if you are ever in an emergency situation, the card is there. Another option is store credit cards. I have gotten an Old Navy card because it offered a big savings that day like 35 percent off already on sale merchandise, so I got the card, paid it off when I got the bill and then closed the account....that won't help your credit if you don't keep it, but I closed it becuase I didn't plan on using it again....3 years later I got another one for the same reason, I think I paid it off but kept the account open. I also have a Ted Wein's Firestone Automotive credit card and I get a free oil change for my birthday every year and when I get work done on my car I use the card and have 6 months no interest to pay it off.
My best advice is start building your credit at 18, you might not qualify for a credit card, but you can get a secured card (you pay say 300 like a deposit and have a 300 limit, so if you fuck up they just keep your money, but after about 18 months you get the money back and it becomes an unsecured card and they usually raise your limit) OH that is another way they get you, they will sometimes raise your limit for no reason, hoping you will overspend because you can, DON'T.
Amazon credit card gets you points for spending, so do Costco, and several other cards.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS, Track your spending and don't spend money you don't actually have unless it is a true emergency. I would certainly rather pay the interest on an unexpected $1500 car tow and repair that I desperately needed than just not have a working vehicle anymore. Or if my A/C went out in the middle of the summer or if I needed a new fridge suddenly, or a water heater, they can be like $5000, and with good credit you can actually get a cheaper interest rate because you have been shown to pay your bills, so some places will give you direct in store credit for cheaper. Even doctors and dentists offer credit plans for things, so if you need a root canal you don't need to find $2000 to get it done, just qualify for their credit and then make the monthly payments.
It sucks, but it is just the way of life, get good credit young!!!!

Part of our training was that even if we felt as though whoever was calling in wasnt who they said they were, if they gave the correct info to identify themselves we had to treat them as the customer and there was no recourse for denying anything we could do if it was the actual customer calling in.

The short reference to hacking made it sound far more complex of a process than it is. Cash is king and tin foil hats work.

A $20k limit is a lot? I thought $40k and around that was normal?

Really. I worked for one of the big name companies. Most person info we can’t see. The saying no to anything is every call. Not just the big name clients. Only ones that don’t get in trouble is the supervisors which isn’t actual supervisors.
The surcharge fee is true. It’s just the public main way of making money. We had regulator training letting us know the actual main way of making money. (It’s only the multinational ones.). Guess cracked isn’t willing to mention anything that falls under incitement or The Espionage Act of 1917
Here is fact I no longer care about keeping. The 2008-9 bail out was a scam. It was to buy up smaller companies, outsource workers after laying off veterans ones and the new US ones paid much less. Also there is a law that the government pays a company to outsource. Also money going to stock buybacks to inflate value and bonus for executives. This was bragged to us peons during two hall meetings.
Any have under Obama a warning to close your account or get a higher interest rate. Only for the rep to say it wouldn’t effect negatively your credit if you close with a balance. Huge lie we had to tell or be fired. It destroyed your credit more than if you kept it. The damage done effected your other accounts and the law to stop that wasn’t till years later. The reason that threat happened is any helpful regulation to the public is not effective right away so they gave credit card company’s months to lie and jack up interest rates. The kicker. It wasn’t to make money on interest. It was costing money you having an account being paid down but open. So it gave an excuse to get rid of customers that weren’t make much money.
I would say the worse stuff but likely signed an NDA and well I don’t want sound crazy. I will give you a hint since it’s still happening. Where did the Nazis get the money for the war and holocaust? Look it up. And see if any names look familiar.

Would be nice if you made infographics to share on Twitter and stuff like that. Probably would go viral(along with a link to the video). This one and the crypto one were spot on

5:31 I just googled the life span of horses, the longest being 62 years for a domestic horse. So depending on when this was yeah that's possible.
