    Without any doubts, this was one of the best CPU comparisons for a laptop I have seen to date. My wife has an Intel Core i7 10th Gen CPU (RAZER Gaming Laptop) and I have an AMD Ryzen 7 series 5000 CPU (Lenovo Legion 5) laptop. They are have slightly different configurations, but performance specs are similar. I really like how fast the AMD starts up and is operational, but I have seen a few differences when it comes to running a couple of applications. The NERO Video Downloader runs great on the Intel based Laptop, but doesn’t work very well on the AMD unit. It keeps asking for some weird app to be installed, which I did, like a dozen times, but it still struggles to complete the download task. I have noticed that my wife’s unit does seem to run a little hotter too compared to my unit. If I had to rely on one brand of CPU I would probably stick with the Intel CORE i7, or higher, CPU just because of application compatibility. Office Apps all run great on either unit so there’s no real difference there.

    Thank you for this! The exact question I have. I have a strange use case, however. I need to run a one-thread per core application at the highest frequency as possible across as many cores as possible. Is there a "correct" choice for this? (Efficiency cores couldn't be used, except in the background, which is nice, but hyperthreading would also provide headroom with one thread free per core). i'm not mining bitcoin or anything, but sometimes run this for hours on end. Hopeless or is this an ok time to go for a laptop? They seem hot.

    The lithography matters just the same as it always has. Though comparing different chip manufacturers like Intel or TSMC in regards to the names of their nodes doesnt really make sense since the naming is too arbitrary. But when looking at only one manufacturer you can really see the difference like between Intel 14 and 10nm. For example the last gen on gpus was made by TSMC 7nm for AMD and Samsung 8nm for Nvidia. Just based on the naming you wouldnt expect a huge difference but the samsung node is considerably worse on almost all regards.
    Also the big/little architecture isnt really more advanced and there are good reasons for and against it. The biggest pro would be content creation since you can have 4 ecores for the space of 1 full core with 4 e cores doing more work in that regard. The biggest con would be gaming where e cores cant be used at all. They also dont really help with energy consumption. Its mostly a stunt by intel to win the core race while still using their monolythic die design. If youre a gamer you should only look at the amount of P cores.

    @dhaouaditarak8809 Před rokem +29

    It's true that in terms of temperature AMD is the winner, but with another type of laptop such as the Victus or the Omen with a decent cooling the core i7 doesn't seem to heat up at least after 1 month of use either for classical tasks or while playing. That said I am a bit disappointed by the power consumption which seems exaggerated, I saw in another comparison that the battery life decreases by half with a core i7 compared to an AMD Ryzen 7.

    • @CountPorcula
      @CountPorcula Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes if you use it on battery a lot then the more consumption of the battery, the more discharge/charge cycles the quicker the battery dies. If an intel eats more power from the battery it will discharge faster. I almost always keep my (Intel) laptop powered in an outlet and with the battery set to 80% charged. If I know i have to go somewhere I set it to change to 100%. That way I protect the battery and it lasts for years. I have another i3 from 2016 and it has a good battery. My last i7 (8th gen) battery died out last year and I didn't want to spend 100 euros on a battery so I bought another 13th gen i7. With the last i7 i didn't do the x% charge so that's why the battery died out after around 3+ years.
