Meet and talk and so while a dog suffers and dies or any animals.
Chit-chatting socializing will not will not save the suffering animal, chat that's a waste of time.
Do you think going door-to-door will save the animal that is dying by himself.
Power to you if you and the animals have the time. Reaching people's hearts by personally talking to them could it be touching?
BUT It is the law it is the government, it is those in power and authority as well as municipalities THESE ARE THE ONES TO HAVE AUDIENCE WITH.
You must be part
you must become part of the law.
Otherwise you must change the law.
Even then you will have to enforce it.
So IT IS ADVANTAGEOUS TO BECOME PART OF THE LAW. THEN YOU CAN SAY AND TAKE ACTION with the (lawbreakers) and protect the animals.
However there's no laws from what I understand.

Can’t understand the mentality of people who object to dogs being adopted abroad because of what will happen to them but not giving a stuff about those same dogs on their own doorstep !!
I love animals myself more than most humans but the dedication of those people who run these shelters astounds me, never having time off, never having an extra couple of hours in bed , always putting the dogs first even when they’re ill
Superheroes are not all in the movies
It's too much suffer for stray dogs😣 they are like mute beggers walking around the streets😥💚🐶💚
So heart breaking!!!
Pobrecitos , ellos no merecen eso, nuestro mejor Amigo, tan fiel y que se deja la vida por protegernos. Muchas Gracias, que Dios los bendiga a TODOS 🙏🏻
OMG - what a terrible situation.
Beautiful, innocent, lost souls! The terrible situation in my country ... 🐾💔
Thanks again so much for looking after all these beautiful dogs🙏🙏💋💋💋💋💋💋❤️
Congrats Valia, you finally met Takis and his animals!!! I asked you once, how comes that you never mention Takis shelter in your beautiful stories and you said to me- I've never been there! Hope you enjoyed your time there with Victor and wish you all the Best! Btw, thx for your touching story, as always. 👍✌️❤️
I did enjoy it very much!!!!
I adopted a stray dog from Greece last August. I go every year and it deeply saddens me to see so many dogs wandering the streets. I could not go back home to the US without taking the dog home. It was a lot of paperwork and I had to see the city Nd the state veterinarians. Back and forth to different offices. It was very daunting, but I wasn’t giving up! I am so happy that I brought my dog home, and gave him a better life. I go every year and I try and feed the dogs wherever I can. There needs to be better animal rights laws in place. I pray things get better. I do follow Takis shelter on Facebook, he is an amazing man, so kindhearted. I am truly grateful to all the rescuers and good people there in Greece who try and make a difference.
They are ignorant!! They need to be educated!! And laws to protect animals from abuse! I donated to her through Victor!! Terrible situation it seems her and Takis only ones!! Let's help support her for helping these poor furbabies 🐕😍💞
That's so sad Valia😖 If only there were many more people like you and you're friends in Greece.
My all my best wishes to all of you
I am not able to watch this video. Forgive me. It was great to see victor, takis and you together. Heroes
Poor babies
This is so so sad, it hurts my heart so much 😭
It is so horrible to se how People treat The innocent animals. The animals are The soul of The earth. And People Who are animal abusers have no soul and are a danger to all living beings even humans.. I have just now seen Viktor Larkhills video about Richard.. He is Amazing ❤️ im so happy he met my hero Takis ❤️ my Patreon heroes together you, Viktor and Takis ❤️
I'm so happy that you included a " piece" of Takis in this video, he like you guys is an amazing human being , trying to find the solution for the ignorance in Greece and saving tons of lives!!! Thank you so much!!!!💝😘🤗
Sandra Chamberlain I love Takis as well, what work.

It hurts to see how these beautiful souls are just IGNORED, like they’re ghosts. Adopting abroad mentality is preposterous. You don’t see many small dogs, I wonder if that’s just because they don’t have a chance with the larger dogs trying to survive. Keep telling thier stories Valia, they desperately need your voice. If it saves only one, it’s worth it.💔
this is so heartbreaking so evil so cold and sad how some people including the government don't even care about all these beautiful innocent animals 💔 just to sad i really hope and pray that this change
We found two stray dogs on the streets of Crete. we gave them a home, our home - back in the UK. There are so many strays on Crete, it’s heartbreaking.
A dog is such a special a animal. It should be loved and well taken care of. Valia and Ermioni you guys are angels.
Poor precious doggies 😭❤️. Hopefully more people like you guys to help them. So sad 😞. God Bless you all🙏
Valia the way you tell a story is beautiful and amazing. You should think about it. You are a strong amazing ambassador for the animals. Thank you so very much for all that you do. It's so very important the work that you do. Please never give up on fighting for the voiceless. Seeing you with Viktor and Takis was wonderful. Strength in numbers and you can move mountains!!✌💞🙏🐾🌼
Thank you ❤️ we sould come together, I do believe that. Rescuers should be united not isolated. We're all fighting for the same cause.
A desperate situation simply stated. Your video speaks volumes. Keep telling the truth of it, Valia. Your voice is unique and penetrating. Thank you. 💜

Humans humanity has become a ghost in todays times.
But what is the solution!!!!...u knw in the problem lies the solution... hats off to humans who give their day n night n life n soul to these beings that most give a damn abt.
it requires very tough hardened soul to work in this environment day n night..Im so humbled by their dedication n commitment.. & even more by their resilience to keep going for the ones they love.. Dog can't speak i wish they could make a comment .we all would be quiet then.
& Trust me its not just Greece.. where there r no strays probably their r kill shelter s or banned breeds or maybe mass culling.
I recently been to Nepal and OMG the situation is sooo bad there.
This video has a very gloomy undertone.. It’s the subject of course but it’s also seeing the images of all those people in now getting to know.. toiling, struggling... and then the abrupt end.. :-(
There is no end to it that's why the end is abrupt!

So, so, sad, these poor strays needs home ! Whoever says don't let the dogs be adopted abroad, SCREW THEM, thses dogs need homes. The rescues in Greece are very careful , they just won't let them (dogs) go anywhere. Strays don't deserve to live on the streets, and Greece should put a law that dogs and cats be fixed, it will save lives.
Why do the Greek people care if a dog gets adopted or not? Clearly they don’t care about them. Dogs are a hindrance to them. So what’s it to them? It’s funny how most are church goers but yet they hurt God’s creatures. The hypocrisy of being a Christian is overwhelming. It’s like walking in the house of God and slapping him in the face “ this is what I think of your creatures”
@B M . You hit the nail on the head in regards to hypocricy. Add ; ego, ignorance, stubborness, lack of education, lack off scope,oh,let's not forget pathetic arrogance.👎😔😒
How do you know most are church goers? 38% of Greeks go to church so your statement is absurd.

My girlfriend's dog Doglas was poisoned recently. He was a good boy. He always protected her and followed her into her barangay to run errands. It seems there is no solution to.this, as the government is complacent and the majority of the population is as well. Even if the population don’t care, sterilization would improve the landscape. Why don’t they do it for that reason alone. These dogs were never meant too live solitary lives without human companionship.
Must must must spay/neuter & TNR. It will take time but will help. The government should step up and hire someone for this task & this task alone. It's not fair. These poor animals did not deserve the fate that they have been given. =-(
WASP Bitch but clearly the government won’t step up. And the people are fine with this, not even knowing what wonderful creatures dogs are.
Carol Ro Admitted. No reason to stop every bit of education and political/social pressure we can bring to bear. 💜
@@carolro6673 But even Takis says with the generations changing so does the feelings toward animals. I know it's not great but if young people know that these creatures are capable of so much more than an annoyance on the streets or a burden when their bitch gives birth, or people who abandoned their hunting dogs when they are "used up". They see this and don't like it. Even if it's just a few...it has to begin somewhere.
It's gonna take time and lots of education for peoples views on animals to change but, have to start somewhere.
My first thing would be sterilization...some of the human population too! oops...did I say that out loud?!
I say it all the time:
Please spay and neuter your pets...and your weird friends a relatives. ;-)
@@DianeLee999 EDUCATION...especially at a very young age is key. Kids learn from what they see. If taught compassion they are compassionate. If they learn evil & cruel ways of their elders than they will do the same (typically). Bringing animals into classrooms to see what wonderful companions they can make. That they have feelings like anyone else...including themselves. They can be friendly affectionate friends. Something the kids can touch feel and relate to. Not something to throw away when it's inconvenient or they are "done" with them. That they are alive. Like them. They have feelings...love, joy, sadness, & pain. Not toys or trash to be discarded.
Heartbreaking. 💔💔💔
Thanks for your excellent video. Its true people in Greece believe animals are filthy and might spread disease like leishmaniasis to them so they abandon them once they find out they are sick. On the other side there are animal lovers having too many pets since they try to rescue and find homes to animals they find on the streets (sometimes in terrible conditions) ending up with huge vet bills, complains from the neighbors filling complains to the police most of the times unjustly.Sure there are animal collectors in the middle of this but most people who open their homes to host strays for adoption end up having problems with the law. I live in an off center area of Athens we have too many parks and too many strays mostly cats and there are here two kinds of people here those with no pets at all and they hate them and those with too many including myself ( 5 dogs and 10- 15 cats). Its like a war zone if animal lovers find a sick cat or kitten they bring it secretly home to take it to the vet . Animal lovers in Athens( and there are many I assure you) cant have more than 2 pets per apartment its illegal and the fines are severe. So we keep them secretly inside trying to find homes for them and giving them the best medical care we can. That s the other side of the video......
Thankyou for that info...didn't know that..x
So so so very sad Valia, so harsh. These poor creatures didn't ask for this. Why why why do people think this is okay to leave their pets "open", like no spay or neuter, I don't understand and never will I guess. The abuse these animals suffer at the hands of humans or sub-humans!! Terrible. I thank you for all you do Valia. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
You don’t see this in Canada
This is sad. All dogs deserve good homes ):
If I were in Greece and saw one these babies, I would not at all hesitate to put him in my car immediately. Where I live in Austin, Texas you never see stray dogs. You’ll see a cat or two, lots of deer running wild, but that’s it along with the wild animals like raccoons, snakes, squirrels, possums, armadillos, and coyotes.Sounds like the problem in Greece is a lack of money & love necessary to give attention to all the stray dogs & cats. The country needs shaken up and reformed.
Good ...😇😇😇

Animals value humans more them human themselves value each other so it is such a shame that they are left behind
😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
I never heard that people thought those horrible things about dogs being adopted to other countries. What a bunch of crap. Every single country has an over population of animals. The animals laws should be made and enforced to the fullest extent of the law. It's people's fault that there are so many strays. People should not have a pet if there not going to take care of it. It is truly heart breaking the things humans do to these poor animals. They should be lived and cared for, take to the vet for their shots and good health, to be spayed or neutered to stop the over populations. People who run puppy Mills and Kitten Mills should be in prison for a long time. So much needs to change. I thank God for people like you Valia, Viktor, Takis, Sandra and others in your countries speaking for the voiceless pets and all animals who are used, abused, starved, dumped, tied up and left to die and many other horrible things that are done to them. In the US we have some wonderful people and rescues here who do what you do. Thank the Lord we have some laws, rules & regulations in most states, butt they are not strong enough laws to deter a lot of evil people from doing horrendous things to animals. At least it's a step in the right direction. We have Eldad, Lorreta, and others with Hope for Paws that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Vet Ranch, ASPCA, Animal Rescue Corps, North Shore Animal League, Stray Rescue. org, Stray Rescue of St. Louis and so many more. They work together with other Rescues, Shelters, Fosters etc and network together like you do in your countries. Valia, you have a beautiful voice, that has a very special, touching way, of telling all these poor animals stories. Your words go so naturally straight to everyone's brain, but goes so very deeply into our hearts and souls. I honestly believe your voice and words can get into the most hard- hearted people in the world. You are truly an Angel here on Earth.i know God bless you and all our animal saviours each and every day. As he blesses all who donate their money, time, love and anything they can, to make this worlds animals to feel happier, healthier and to feel loved!!! May God be with each of you. Thank you so very much!!! ❤️💖❤️
I went to Rhodes many years ago. I was sinister at the amounts of dogs just running and roaming the streets. I annoyed my host a bit because I started buying deli meat to feed a number of dogs that were hanging around the neighborhood. They were sweet adoptable dogs, but no one cared. This problem rests mainly on the government, as there is no public education to change the careless attitude towards these animals, and there are no spay/neuter programs (that I'm aware of) to address the overpopulation. It's a tragedy all around.

Poor doggies ❤️
I have recently moved to GR and where I live there are many many many....strays. I keep feeding them, and in the last 5 or 6 days, I have four dogs who decided to stay in my yard. Just while ago, the neighbor came and gave me some advice of NOT feeding them, to just ignore, because these dogs keep barking and annoy his family during the nights... I have the impression I am going to have some trouble here with these people! What shall I do??? There is an animal organization close by..., but they have only negative reviews as far as I have checked. Any ideas??? thanks😟😟😟
No you are on your own here mate. Sadly animal orgs don't really foster strays. They only castrate (i hope thats the proper word) and realease back in the streets. However i am pretty aure your neighbors cant do anything from a legal standpoint.

I wish some days not too long, all strays in Greece will be gone. People in there will care for the animals than any other countries.
What is wrong with people, why can't they see our four legged loyalist of friends as akin to us, and treat them accordingly with Love and Respect. Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.

in the house of government revolving around this problem, to set in place (laws) that are not established in Greece OR WHICH-EVER country you reside in . . . .
and also sympathize with your heads of country government telling them that you understand how hard it is for them and so you will take over only with the laws and rules that you and your people or friends that agree to work at this new room with you, for the WELFARE ACTION of dogs and to establish.
Stand up go forward for a new LEGISLATION for action for a new room to be added in the house in government by laws of welfare.

Try to get into the law and become part of the law.

Very nice video. Paints a very good picture of the situation re. stray dogs in just a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, the situation with other domesticated animals is much much worse. As it was very eloquently put, at least stray dogs enjoy a certain sense of freedom. On the positive side, the number of operating animal welfare organisations seems to me to be on the increase as is the number of volunteers. Old ways of thinking are hard to change but perhaps the next generation overall might have a different attitude towards animals.
It's true. But the number of welfare organisations is increasing because there is more and more need. The number of strays is getting up, not down.😕
@@OrphanPetGreece I think that the more people become educated and involved in animal welfare, the better. Strays are the result of the domestication of an animal carried out by our ancestors that we now have decided that we have absolutely no use for and thus have left them to fend for themselves- only they can't, they need us to exist. We have a long history of treating nature as an infinite resource to be exploited without care for the consequences.
@@Stelios.Posantzis I agree. But the numbers are honestly getting higher. The volunteers are more, but still they're few. Pet ownership has sky rocketed the last decade, and that means hundreds of thousands more of irresponsible owners than in the past. Unless there's a systematic control, with spaying every single owned dog in the country, like they did in Holland, it won't get better. Its like trying to empty the ocean with a spoon. Strays mainly come from births, and for every dog we spay, a dozen gives birth to 50 puppies in total.
@@OrphanPetGreece I wasn't aware pet ownership has increased. One would think that this increase might have had the opposite effect i.e. raise people's awareness and make them more sensitive to the problem. I don't know the dynamics of the problem and what factors come into play. I also suppose there's a serious lack of regular official statistics which probably has something to do with the total absence of state care on the matter. Where I live, the council doesn't even have a service to pick up roadkill. If you call them you'll probably get a response like "toss it in the bin" - which is an illegal thing to do.
Personally, I'm not one of the people that consider strays a nuisance, danger, what-have-you. I consider them to be just another part of nature such as pigeons, sparrows, cats and other city-dwelling animals. My great concern is with the poor and perilous conditions of living most strays face and the debilitating diseases or other conditions they suffer from as a result. Our cities are simply not pet-friendly and thus not stray friendly.
On the subject of spaying, I find myself totally against it based on purely ethical grounds. I realize this may not be a practical stance and given the enormity of the problem I understand this may be the only available solution. A systematic controlled state-sponsored spaying, however, is something I will always think of as abhorrent. For me, it would be fairer to say "we know that strays is a man-made problem and we need to educate people on their responsibilities as pet carers but unfortunately spaying is the only temporary solution available to curtail the immense growth in numbers". Then again, I find the idea of "animal ownership" as something of a paradox to say the least but that's just me I guess. I can't help thinking that there are a lot of pet owners out there who consider pets an accessory, a part of the flat decor, a toy, a gift for the kids - who are unable to take care of it and the original gift-giver has to take action and sometimes decides to dispose of the unwanted burden. These people need to know better. People in the countryside that consider animals as one of three types of creatures, that is a working animal, a source of food or a pest, need to know better. We're at an age where we can no longer afford to be going about our regular business ignoring the effect our every day choices have on the whole ecosystem, including our own society, as well as its tiny constituent individual organisms.
Sorry for the long rant - it's a rather complicated subject I guess...

One cat, her kittens & their offspring can produce half a million cats in a little more than seven years!
THERE AREN'T ENOUGH HOMES FOR THEM ALL. Please Spay or Neuter your cats. And your Dogs.
The Greek people that do this
Should be ashamed it’s disturbing this would never happen in 🇬🇧
Uk
Kill pounds - policy in the UK.. perhaps death is actually preferable..
Danai Dimitroula why would you say that ? .
only solution is e new law .
more good laws.
So very shameful Greece!!
Hoping not to be sarcastic that poverty amongst Greek people contributes to this neglect of animals...
Shame on you for both cases EU ❗️
Shame
If you are too poor to have a dog, don't have a bloody dog
@@allyjohnson646 When the EU pulled the plug on helping the Greek economy not so many years ago, the ordinary people were suddenly plunged into poverty, even pensions were severely cut. Unemployment rates shot up and standards of living plummeted. Being tied to the Euro meant the Greeks were unable to devalue their currency and save the economy. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of migrants from Africa and the ME landed in Greece, needing care. The EU did little to help the Greeks survive this double whammy of catastrophes. It's true that the culture of animal keeping in Greece is definitely not up to, say, UK standards, but during the time of severe financial poverty many previously cared for pets were let loose to the streets, simply because their owners could not afford food. I believe it's the legacy of mass abandonment of unspeyed pets that we are seeing today. I'm not excusing the lack of compassion or the lack of government action now. It is, though, helpful to understand how the present situation arose.
I am sorry to say this but tourists should boycott visiting Greece and tell the Greek government exactly why they won’t visit Greece anymore.

Please PLEASE do away with the music. It ruins the video because it's so loud I can't hear most of the spoken word part of the audio.U are defeating the purpose of the film to 'get the word out' by almost totally drowning out the narration. Please get rid of the music so we can hear what ur saying. The loud, blaring musuc is so annoying because I truly want to know what ur saying about the stray dog problem in ur country
Part of the problem is a lack of sterilization, but equally at fault is a government that outlaws euthanizing strays. It is the humane thing to do.
Not necessarily humane thing to do. A death factory is never humane. However legal funding to sterilize animals so in a short span the number of unwanted dogs would decrease. But of course the government doesn't want to use funds for this humane option.
@@Sirissssss I disagree. Those strays would be far better off being euthanized than they are now. Similar to a sick, suffering dog.
@@mattbasford6299 it is a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. Have you ever seen a high kill shelter where dogs are euthanized. Each dog is left in a cage until his turn comes. They go scared into the euthanization room where one dog after another back to back is put to sleep. And then the dogs are all piled up in another room and sent for disposal. The dogs that do get into these high kill shelters see this and smell this. This absolute fear. It is not humane my friend. It is a solution yes but far from humanity
@@Sirissssss not saying that you feel this way, but many of the same people who think euthanizing dogs is inhumane stand idle by while millions of human babies are torn limb from limb in their mother's uterus every year. It is scientifically proven that they feel pain and respond to instruments being jammed into their skulls.
@@mattbasford6299 so you are saying abortion is bad but to euthanize dogs is not so bad. So one life is more precious to you than the other life. That is the same mentality of these people . To them animal life is dispensable . And hence Valia and people like her are there to pick up the few pieces of the mess created by that kind of thinking
