    Thanks for the information on block cleaning. Building 302 for my Bronco, fixing to have block machined. Now I have better idea what to clean when I get it back from them.

    Hospital clean, and sterile absolutely. I like the pipette brush technique going through all the oil passages. Definitely touched on parts that are most over looked, such as taking the oil pump apart. This is one of the most informative channels out there on engine building for sure. Your experience and knowledge is greatly appreciated. There was a lot of focus breathing in the video, and the white balance was changing often. If you're using a cell phone they make an app called FilMiC Pro, where you can lock your focus and your AWB auto white balance. This will dramatically improve your videos, and make a better teaching experience. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    Thank you Ken E. I greatly appreciate that you take your time to teach. I am inclined but you help me move to the next level, builder not assembler. That's a powerful statement if you have stood in them shoes. It's a great feeling to step out of them.

    Man the way he talks about being a engine builder makes me more motivated, you can hear the love/pride he has for his work. I do a different type of work but have the same mentality, awesome and ill have others say “you take this too serious” smh this people dont even know

    Good information there Ken. I would like to see how you get the 3 plugs out from around the camshaft bore on a small block chev at the back. They are the hardest things on earth to get out, especially the ones with a square hole in them.

    Last time I put flat tappet cam in took several sets of lifters to get a set machined right that has been 6 or 7 years ago and cam was rough on edges of lobes attention to details is everything

    I agree with you 100% I don't see how those guys wear gloves. in fact it drives me crazy watching other people wearing gloves. because I very much depend on the touch sensation in everything I do. it gives me more feedback than my eyes sometimes can. although I don't like the sensation of grease on my hands. because no matter how much I can wipe my hands off it still feels like it's there. so if I'm not feeling right about the feedback that I'm getting from my hands. I might wash my hands twenty plus times just to make sure I'm getting the proper sensation in my hands. I have some of those machanix gloves but don't wear them. and the nitrate gloves are more of a pain in the ass then they are worth. because they start falling apart before I can get much done. so I will stick with not using gloves. Lubriplate has been my preferred choice for assembly lube. and a large selection of pipe cleaners is an absolute must for engine building. there's one long standing phrase that always comes to mind for me in regards to engine building. and that is "cleanliness is next to Godliness" and it has served me well.

    Good video Ken, very informative. I am a machinist.one thing I don’t understand and I have heard this from multiple people who build engines is you say you chase all the threaded holes with a tap. Now most engines when they are manufactured new are tapped with roll form taps. Now if you chase a roll form thread with a cutting tap you are over sizing the minor diameter of the thread this making the thread weaker. All that material that comes out is from the thread being recut. How can this be good for torque spec?

    I bought a long block 496 on e-bay, 2 of the lifters wiped out cam lobes on break-in. So I ordered a new cam&lifters installed them and realized that the stock push rods were too short, so I ordered longer push rods put it together and it broke in fine and runs good. My question is could too short of a pushrod cause lifter failure?

    Uncle Tonys Garage has been complaining about the lifter problems. People losing their cams because some lifters lost pressure. They even had a cam were the bearing Journals. were cut oversized for old worn bearing and they couldn’t install it. Wasn’t supposed to be that way

    One of the first thing they taught in engine rebuilding is cleanliness. Otherwise everything from that point is in vain if not spotless. Then I have a worksheet that I fill out as I measure everything..document document document.

      Sorry, you can only hold one "head" title at a time. And with that question, the title you currently hold, does not have the word "gear" in it.

    Did anyone point out your big block has a small block oil pump on it? I know you know what you're doing just thought it was funny you demonstrating this with the wrong oil pump.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!

      That may be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Don't you people have elections? If your citizens elect those people, they get what they deserve. Or are they all brainwashed, like Greta Thunberg? Cars have gotten cleaner and cleaner and it's still not enough for those nutcases. Sorry for you if that happens. I'd have move to a free country.
