  • Decathlon is a brand that is still pretty new to the U.S., but the rest of the world already knows that it is like a Trader Joe’s but with outdoor goods. They have house brands for just about everything, and that keeps prices super low. But is this stuff any good?

I love the decathlon apparel. There are clothing items for all budgets: from the economic one to the more professional one. I have some running jerseys and shorts that I have been using regularly for 5 years and they are still perfect!

I picked up their hooded vest last year and it proved indispensable through the winter. Plus it was only like $15 or something. Astonishing value.

3 years watching the channel almost every day and this is the first time you review something I already have 🤪
Decathlon is great because you can get affordable solid gear for any sport. This allows you to try the sport (like climbing, cycling, ski, mountain hikes…) and if you don’t like it just throw away what you bought. If you like it then you can go for something more expensive.
I have been using these shorts every day for the past four months. I have two, so they have been washed like 20 times each. One of them is starting to tear. The other one still holds on.
The jacket I used last winter too.
    Thanks for the video!

I can confirm that Decathlon gear is absolutely worth looking into. I have a warm tights and a longsleeve that I used for 80% of my runs last winter, both have saved my life many times (and will continue to do so in the upcoming months). I also own two or three summer tights by Kalenji, they are supercomfy, lightweight and have held up well for several seasons now. Good stuff, and I admire that they make great running gear affordable for everyone. Glad to see that they seem to become more available for you folks in the US. Cheers from Berlin!

Decathlon apparels are where most of my running kit is from. They just work as what they are meant for. The price is incredibly affordable. 2 winters ago I ran in that long-sleeved Kalenji matched with their long pants, wind jacket and that gloves while on a holiday in Japan. Felt perfect 👌

Decathlon makes amazing stuff. Kiprun socks are top class, and I recently ran my best marathon ever in Amsterdam, wearing these AWESOME trail running shorts from Evadict, which had enough pockets for 5 gels + electrolyte tube. No chafing, super comfortable. And when I compared the weight of them to Nike Aeroswift shorts + Fitbelt, the Evadict shorts came in far lighter too!
Also if you're a cyclist, their Van Rysel line is absolutely top notch.

    • @yanzhuozhoo

Love Decathlon gear. The trail shorts are easily my favourite run shorts. I actually cut the tight potion out as I prefer a brief-style liner. It works perfectly. Their trail belt is also pretty stellar and comfortable (but doubles the pockets on the shorts).

I been purchasing stuff at Decathlon for some time, and they do have quite affordable stuff, I got shorts from both Kalenji and Kiprun, other brand from them I specially liked cause its very light and breathable. Last thing I purchased like 3 weeks ago was a set of 3 short fitness bands for my Glute Activation exercises 5kg, 6kg, 7kg of resistance for 4,99€ that came really in handy for me.
In my case all stuff is for road running

Decathlon is great! Good quality for the price. Great option for beginner runners. The only problem: Popular sizes for their shirts and pants sell out fast and they don’t resupply for the most part. Favorite purchase: Hooded running vest.

Great video. They’re huge in(continental )Europe. Started in France and originally had huge hyper market stores in out of town retail parks. Have now started to move into town with smaller stores.
Unbelievable value for money. Easily looking at 50-70% cheaper than the Multi National mega companies.
Try their own label energy drink. 2kg pack for about €20. Enough to make about 50 x 500ml bottles.

    • @PonchoGreg
      @PonchoGreg Před 2 lety

The issue with Decathlon isn't so much sizing up, it's just that their sizing is odd to start with. Basically the standard fit for their tops in particular is "long, lanky dude". So a M for instance is actually closer to a typical S in terms of chest width, but then the length (body, arms) is already on the long side for an M. So you can indeed size up for a bit of comfort, but then everything else is way too long... The waist also tends to be pretty narrow, which combined with the length is not ideal for anything that requires movement, like running. I'm not a big guy either (70kgs for 175cm) but not scrawny - to me they really cater more to a specific kind of physique. Really a shame as I love the quality of their products, genuinely great and unbeatable for the price.

I just ordered a couple pairs of linerless shorts, some half-tights, and joggers from Decathlon to try them out on Sunday. All that for the price of a single pair of shorts or a shirt from some other brands. Didn't order any of the Evadict/trail running stuff though, just Kalenji. Maybe will try that stuff out in the future.
With sizing, Decathlon even says their clothes run small (at least on their Canadian site). I am usually medium for pants (34" waist) and ended up ordering Larges.

I can comment on the durability of the quarter zip long-sleeve. In a word: great.
I have 2 of them that I got last year, and I basically wore them 1-2x/wk from January to March of winter/spring this year and since mid-September this fall. That's probably 20+ runs in each and about a dozen wash and dry cycles, and they look and feel like new. They're holding up just as well as, and feel just as good as tops I've bought that retailed for $50-70 (I never pay full retail for running tops as they're so overpriced).
The only thing I'll say is to avoid the white one if you're gonna run in it. They don't stain easily and mine still looks great after a wash, but they show every little bit of dirt and grime. I just finished a long-ish run in them and the inside of the collar has brown marks on it from body oils + road grit + sweat, which looks a little gross. Running in the winter it also gets visibly dirty really quick from road grit getting splashed up onto it. It's not visible on the dark blue one I have, so stick to darker colours. If I don't sweat too much I can get away with wearing my darker one twice before washing it, but the white one is only good for a single workout typically before it looks really dirty (even if it isn't really THAT dirty).

Thanks for the review. They opened in Canada too. I started running due to covid, but I can't seem to find a good (and affordable) way to dress in the cold Canadian weather (which you must experience too). Any advice or review will be welcome. Yesterday, my legs felt cold and the face freezing. Tomorrow it's the same temperature with possibly some cold rain too and then comes the winter. I am looking forward to getting the reviewed gloves and Warm Long Sleeve Running Shirt.

They sell their own brand of training shoes which are good, also sell branded at very keen prices (adidas, nike, saloman etc). So many cheap good value things: gloves, hats, running packs, socks, water bottles,
Also look at the home gym equipment: kettlebell weights, bars and plates, hiking shoes, coats, jackets, t-shirts

I'm in southeast asia and there are decathlon stores here. I use their pants with many pockets like the one you have (they have various models with these pockets), running socks, some trail shirts, water flasks, etc.
Kalenji is not the most stylish brand or having the best materials out there, but they are functional as they should be, and affordable. Not stylish, yes, but they're not ugly either. Subtle, elegant, blends in well with any other brand you wear. What else do you want? right?
In the past I used waist bags like flip belt when bringing my phone, keys, etc when running. With kalenji pants, goodbye waist bags. They're way more practical.
Their running socks are also good. cheap, never gave me blisters during long runs, and some of them lasted for 2 years (!) with hundreds of washing, still usable just fine. trail bags are also ok.
I never tried their running shoes, though...
All in all, for most runnners, cyclists, campers, etc... Decathlon saves your money while still gives you decent gears that function well.
I sound like a decathlon commercial... but I do love them. If you don't care about fancy brands, get decathlon gears. period.

I have problems with the shorts. They seem to want to fall down, even without the pockets loaded. I need to tie the drawstring tight, but they still creep down a bit. I can still run in them, but they are definitely not a favourite and I wouldn't want to take them out on a run that was more than 90 minutes or where I would need to load up the pockets because I would worry about chafing. If I need stuff, I feel like I may as well wear a vest. That way I can take water too.

This is so true. The wrist peephole for a watch in many of the long sleeve autumn/winter tops is an awesome feature. Most running shoe/clothing brands do a few tops with overhand thumb loop sleeves. Not seen anyone else tackle this in this manner so far. It's nice for short easy runs where I don't care for an external HRM and might push my sleeves up in the sun. This can't be done if the watch is over the garment.
