@@stephany6417 I'm referring to those who complained about the lyrics but are now saying, "OMG I miss the original! Why'd she change it? My childhood is ruined!" It's like, maybe it's because y'all complained your butts off about it before? Either way though, it's her song at the end of the day, and the original version still exists, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal for people. People can never just be happy though. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation.

Exactly, We have people here in Jamaica who sing about women. Good in the sheets while men are good at working.
Every song is only representing the singer themselves, how they feel and what they express. For me to see that the u.s literally whines about back in the day lyrics, It makes me feel bad for the actors and singers because they literally work their behinds off just to please people who are now seeing that they have control of everything, just because they watch it.😢

I’m like bruh, do you really expect filmmakers to rewrite history just so they can score diversity points?? I’ve even read a few comments about people complaining about how Downton Abbey is all white people and it’s crazy because how diverse do they think that the aristocracy in England was in the early 1900s?! Americans judge absolutely everything by modern standards and think everything is problematic.

As someone that got stuck in a 2-day-confusing situation with a guy that I was in love with for years, I can assure you that you do not have to worry about the other party receiving enough hate. You get a lot more than just pointed at, even for small situations.
The guy I loved called me over (I had to be persuaded, because he had a gf that I did not want to upset by visiting) and he admitted he wanted to break up with his current gf of 2 months that initially wanted him as a rebound, but (after they continued to fight) simply did not want to be put to the side and refused to accept his idea to break up. This made the sob panic and he called me over and admitted he liked me.
I cried and huggdd him and we kissed, twice. He was and probably still is the worst kisser in the world, nevertheless, I was on cloud 9.
I tried my best to keep things civil (I kissed him twice, but insisted on everyone having clarity and knowing what was up before moving onto other things) while the (stupid of me not to notice, but I was young and it was my first relationship) guy used me as a blame-crutch to break up with her, sending her a picture of us kissing and making me open the front door, when he knew she was coming over to have a chat with him. I was polite and friendly this whole time, only half-understanding the breakup-tricks I was being used for and continously reminding him to make this as clean and quick as possible.
Let us just say that, in the end, he got a tweet in which she called him an asshole and I got several death-threats at my door, including my sister and family, violent baseballbat-with-nails and "let us decorate the floor with her teeth and beat her up until her parents don't recognize her anymore" which continued for a year. Not to mention all the people that I thpught were friends, but then shunned me and shamed me.
He was just "a lucky bastard" and I was seen as a horrible snake.
I stayed with him for much too long, a relationship involving alcoholism, abuse, lots of cheating (ofcourse, what did I expect) and so on.
Believe me, the other man/woman is already receiving enough, and will be receiving more hatred and shunning whenever the situation comes up in conversation again.

The reason why people react more to Taylor is because she’s a feminist, which means when she does something that doesn’t fit a feminist view then people start raising red flags. Sad for her and sad for her audience since when you’re in a marginalized group and a celebrity or figure of some kind makes themselves out to be a figure you can trust and then does something problematic, it makes it hard to trust them again.

Honestly I’m happy with the lyric change. I think this new version of the album is to help her so how she’s grown and while the old lyric was good it wasn’t mature and this new lyric is mature. I also think Taylor strives for no slut shaming because she went through that and that promoted slut shaming. I think the new lyric is also very clever and I love the use of figurative language and it’s just so beautiful and poetic.

I agree that when it comes to cheating we shouldn't go directly for the other woman before or without holding the man accountable, but I feel like the original version captured the anger and the venomous response most women feel when they're cheated on. The new version feels more poetic, but the old version feels instinctive. For people to say that is anti-feminist is ridiculous. So, are we not allowed to blame the other woman whatsoever, even if she played a hand in it, simply because it's wrong for a woman to shame another woman? The first woman to shame another in that situation is the one that slept with the other's boyfriend. That's anti-feminist.

The new one is more grown up, understanding how cheaters work and that the blame is not only on the “other woman” but mainly on the man. I like to sing both versions, using the old version for the first chorus and ending it with the new one at the end of the song 🥂💜

Since I'm from her generation, listening to her old songs is a bit like time travel - I get to re-experience what I felt like at 18 when I sang my heart out to these songs. To me, my own growth is visible by looking at the lyrics and seeing how different I feel now about many topics. But I guess to her, a sign of her growth is to say, I don't want to see the old version anymore, because I've changed. Well, everyone has their own way of dealing with such things and if that's her preference, good for her :) I can just listen to the old version instead if I want to after all!
