    We can say it again, Martin Freeman was beyond perfect casting for Bilbo Baggins - he elevated every scene, every single frame he was in.
    I'm creating a theatrical audiobook of The Hobbit on my channel (full of distinct character voices like Bilbo/Gollum/Gandalf, with music and immersive sfx), and I often thought of Freeman's delivery as the benchmark for how that character could be.
    Still, to push the Hobbit schedule 5 months forward takes immense confidence - it's quite the compliment. Interestingly, the other half of Sherlock and Watson turned out to be the most incredible voice for the dragon Smaug - my other favourite part of the Hobbit films (and the hardest voice to do)!

    • @themagictheatre2965

      The Hobbit films only had one problem and whether or not that qualifies as a problem depends on your perspective. Those films were not made to be as good as possible in terms of audience reaction. They were made to prevent the Wellington film industry from collapsing. They were made to provide 4 years or work to several hundred people and keep the local industry together. This meant that neither Jackson nor anyone else was primarily concerned with making the movies good. This might seem like a problem to you, but I can assure you that it wasn't a viewed that way by the people who were able to feed their children for years because of those movies and stay in New Zealand rather than moving to Australia, England or America to find work.

    Can someone please explain why Martin Freeman was the "prefect Bilbo Baggins". I've read the Hobbit and I didn't see any similarities between book Bilbo and Freeman's Bilbo, except for everything leading up to and including the "I'm going on an adventure" scene. I think Freeman played Bilbo pretty dry. Was Bilbo that dry of a character in the book?

      @@jim191185 I was simply making a comment at disbelief that he is 48 as he does not look at all as if his nearing 50, nothing more to it. My following comment was a response to the fact that everyone is explaining to me why he is 48 when that was not the intention of my original comment and the comments in response baffled me a little. I'm not sure why I need to explain this but I don't expect a congratulations or award ceremony for being able to understand how Martin Freeman has reached the age of 48

    Martin Freeman isn’t an actor. The parts he plays he plays pretty much as himself because he has a certain way of presenting himself. From The Office to The Hobbit, HHGTTG, to The World’s End & Ghost Stories Martin plays himself because his natural personality is that which we see & like. He doesn’t act but rather is himself while talking through a script.

    • @FindecanorNotGmail

      In HHGTTG his personality fitted quite well. In The Hobbit, it didn't.

      @donnadizucchero Před 4 lety +13

      Oh REALLY, have you seen Fargo???!!! Personality, huh?)) You guys remember. The actor is in the hands of the director and the script. There's a short with Martin as a young lad spending afternoon with his friend, trying to meet girls, "I Just Want To Kiss you". You can see his raw energy there, his personal traits and how generously he is gifted, and i am sure pretty much his acting was an impromptu. But look what's he has done with all that through the years. No,no and no. There are "organic" actors out there: Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Hemsworth, etc,etc. There are "method" actors, but contemporary business model in cinema doesn't give them much welcome if any at all, it takes time for a method actor to get into the material, to be ready to do it right, to give the part justice. Most of Brits in the business have fundamental acting education deeply rooted in theater culture and performance. It's not enough to be just "organic" in the live play. Or, better i put it "People wouldn't learn HOW GOOD exactly you are" from that way of acting. That's why Mr.Freeman here is really a very, very good actor.

    • @lazyjesus6573
      @lazyjesus6573 Před 4 lety

      My opinion remains unchanged, he’s not an actor but rather plays himself. It’s he himself who is likeable not any character he may try to play. He’s a natural character so to speak and humorous but he’s not an actor. There’s many so called actors like this.

    • @sherlockedvidz7666
