    "The Dacia Logan MCV estate has a clear purpose for being - it's the cheapest estate car you can buy, and offers loads of space for not much money. It's basic and cheap, but it's still dependable and should be reliable, thanks to the fact it is made by parent company, Renault."

    A brand new family estate car for under 7 grand and with up to 5 years warranty. Can't knock it who cares it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. it's cheap reliable transportation for the working man. I mean why get yourself indebted up to the eyeballs just to have a flash car.

    I understand that Carbuyer is trying to show us a really cheap car to buy and run, with huge amount of space, and so on. But do they really need to get the basic/entry level version? I think they're kinda underestimating the potential of this car... I'm pretty sure that a lot of daily carrying situations will fit on it just fine, but surely with higher specs it will be much, much better.
    PS: I'm not a Dacia fan.

      if you buy a more expensive version, you begin to get ripped off, options aren't cheep for the car, adding a diesel engine and optioning a colour other than white raises the price to over £10000 (over £11000 if you go for a higher spec) and the more expensive Logan's will have ridiculous depreciation

      @EChid Před 9 lety +14

      First, I'm not sure that carbuyer actually chooses the vehicle they get. It is likely part of a press fleet. Second, the whole point of this car is the entry price...so you may as well see what you're going to get.

    I ask anyone who has the time and means, to make a comparative analysis of both Dacia's "cheap plastic" and VW Golf "tremendous, fine, smooth, fantastic, plastic". Perhaps I am subjective, but from my experience, the differences are soooo liiiitle that I consider that this aspect should be excluded from the reviews. Don't come out with "VW plastic is soft, Dacia's not" because it is totally irrelevant. When you're behind the wheel, you're there to drive, not to fondle the dashboard...

    For under 12k you can get the top of the range model in a decent colour with satnav and alloy wheels, that include electric windows and reversing sensors. Even though that is quite a jump in price, it would be ALMOST impossible to buy a brand new estate from any other company with those extras for the same price. The car is cheap but it works

  • @pedjaostoin
    @pedjaostoin Před 8 lety +23

    This is not a proper review anyway. If somebody wants a more expensive car, then he should look somewhere else. But, in real world and in that price range, Dacia is unbeatable. I have a 2009 Logan 1,6MPI petrol engine with 180.000 km. It served me as a company car and after that I bought it for my wife as a personal car. In 5 years I haven`t had any mechanical or electrical problems with it.
    Last month I`ve been to Istanbul and was driven by a Logan 1,5 dCi Taxi car which had ~749.000 km on board. Taxi driver said that he had no extra maintenance done except standard one and he had no problems with the car, whatsoever. Now I am driving as a company car Dacia Doker 1,5 dCi full option, (ABS, ESP, Navi, Bluetooth car kit included, etc) passenger version and already have 70.000 km in 1,5 years. No problem what so ever. Again, If somebody wants a VW, Audi or Mitsubishi, then this is not a car for him. But, if you want a decent equipped working horse which will keep going without repairs, than you should look also this brand.

    It gets bad rep for being cheap rather than being bad, shows how stupid people are. Sure the entry level one is utter crap (no equipment + bad engine) but the Lauréate TCe90 which doesn't cost that much is enough car for most people, it also doesn't look that bad once you get alloys and another color than white, I think it actually looks good. If you are on a budget, this is actually a great car (except the base models), maintaining it is cheap, insurance is cheap, you've got a warranty and there isn't much to go wrong.

      I think most of the Dacia reviews are honest and the host should present both good and bad parts of a car. For instance, this review is very well calibrated between good-bad. People should know what they buy, and this review did very well in informing future customers on what this car is about: practical, but cheap interior and poor comfort. That's a fact, and I see nothing wrong with facts. Do you?

      @ivandoe33 Před 9 lety +2

      Just test drive it and You will get the answers. I had to drive company logan sedan once, and it was horrible experience. Don't know why they call it a car even. That's why reviewers are focusing on bad sides, cause the only good side you get is space and nothing else. I hate to say this, but I'd rather buy 3-4 year used car from so called C segment (focus, astra or any other) than buying a Dacia. That is the only exception I'd make, otherwise I'd always go for a new car. I'm just trying to be realisting. Even Daewoo has been making better cars than this.

    There's a few things I dont agree with here. We have had our Logan MCV for 1 year now using it as a family workhorse. We got the top spec model with the turbo petrol engine. It has full electric windows, cruise control with speed limiter, touch screen satnav stereo, height adjustment in the seat and steering wheel and hill start assist. We could've optioned leather interior but chose not to. This review highlights the negatives of the basic spec but doesn't care to mention adding all the options doesn't cost THAT much more. The interior is actually very well put together, yes the materials are budget but the quality is still very good. On long trips on the motorway its no worse than similarly priced small cars in terms of ride comfort and harshness. Show me another brand new car that can do all that at the same price. I would much rather be in a car that uses tried and tested Renault parts than any of these new budget Korean brands which are more expensive and don't have any history or culture in building reliable cars. And to everyone who says just buy a car 3-4 years old, that's fine, I drive an old Toyota but there is something about having a brand new car with no miles on it that gives you some extra peace of mind and its rather nice to know it hasn't had someone elses dirty hands on it lol.

    • @dragosgalben60
      @dragosgalben60 Před 9 lety +3

      As a Romanian your defending of the Dacia tickles me a little. However, let's be realistic, those "new" Koreans you talk about are in fact older than Dacia and... far better at building reliable cars. Even back in the old days (some 10 years ago I mean) when their cars were as ugly as Rooney, still, mechanically were pretty well sorted out, I know some 20 year old Kia Sportage that still has no engine problem yet. My Ceed is actually much better looking, much more comfortable and better quality than any Dacia and after 7 years I still didn't experience a single problem with it. In fact, to be fair, while the Koreeans are main-stream these days, Dacia is budget. So thanks, but..... not entirely true. What's true however is that these days, Koreans are much more expensive that Dacia, but.. you do get a lot more for your money.

    • @ArmenianSOADfreak
      @ArmenianSOADfreak Před 9 lety +5

      Dragos Galben I have no experience of Dacia before Renault. Renault has been around since the beginning of the 19th century and if it wasn't for the acquisition of Dacia by the automobile giant I wouldn't have advised so many people to buy them. Kias might be great cars but the Koreans don't have automobile manufacturing in their history or in their culture in the same way that Americans, British and Europeans do. In some sense, when you buy a car you are paying into that culture. Its no bad thing, the Japanese didn't have it at one point either... now look at them. most of my favourite cars come from there lol.

    I've been driving the top spec diesel model for an year now (the top-spec in Romania costs about 12000 euros - about 4-5000 euros less than in UK). In the past year I had several long trips with it on dodgy roads. After an year, I don't see it just like a big piece of plastic. The interior is decent. The dashboard is from a hard plastic that feels cheap, but actually looks better than it feels. But I don't pet the dashboard so why would I care how it feels?. It has all the decent equipment of an modern car: sat-nav, blue-tooth connection, a usb for your music and a more than decent speaker system (I've seen far worse speakers on way more expensive cars). The ride is only uncomfortable on long rides only because you have to keep your foot on the accelerator pedal (cruise control is an option though). During my trips I learned the limits of my car and learned how to drive it properly to get the maximum out of it. On curvy roads was so fun, even had a Range-Rover behind me that couldn't keep up (he passed me when the road became straight of course). It's damn economical too, 4.5 liters/100 km. It's cheap to maintain. For me at least is just enough. It doesn't excel in anything but has everything.

      Hey, I hope you see this and can reply. I'm thinking about buying a new facelift Logan sedan when it comes later this year or start of 2017, but I'm worried about one thing. I know that models 2004-2006 had problems with corrosion, how is that solved now? I can't really find any reliable info on what technology and procedures they use?

    • @euteo
      @euteo Před 7 lety

      Dacia hasn't mentioned a thing yet about a facelift. If it will be launched, it will be launched in the second half of 2017 at best. But in the meanwhile, they upgraded the specs of the car a bit. You can now have an automatic gearbox, all cars have start-stop, the media-nav was improved a bit, and now there is a model that has automatic AC. As for corrosion, the metal used is thinner than the 2004-2006 model, but holds up better. I haven't seen rust spots on new Logan in 3 years since it was launched. Also the paint is much more resistant.

    • @filips989

      Pinzariu Teodor Thanks, the corrosion was the only thing that was keeping me at a distance from the Dacia. The only thing that keeps me from buying the Dacia is my fear of the DPF filter. I would buy petrol Dacia, but they have very week engines (and I try to stay away from turbo). So, how is DPF filter if you drive in city traffic 90% of the time? Thank you in advance.

There's also driver and passenger front and side airbags. On the other hand, one might expect 'basics' to include electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking and A/C, which the Access version doesn't have.
    To really cover all the basics and actually get a reasonably equipped MCV you have to step up to the Laureate spec, which is about 2k more. Still under 10k though, and less than a similarly equipped VW Up! :))

    I look at it this way - it is old second had car with 0 mileage and no previous owners . If someone made Clio Estate , put it in time capsule and sold it as Dacia , it would be this car . Petrol engines are same engines that Renault puts it its new cars , while 1.5 dci is well proven old engine , so it is reliable , cheap to maintain and very simple . Mileage that Dacia gives is real life fuel economy , not overly optimistic fuel economy that many cars have these days . If they wrote that new Clio does 120 mpg , people would expect to do that , no matter that in real world it does 45 mpg .

      My next new car will be something like a Dacia. Although i am a car lover and usually (but not always) low budget cars are a bit boring, I am tired of paying premiums in maintenance, paying for equipment I don't use and riding expensive cars on crappy roads and claustrophobic car parks. Nothing wrong with Dacias. They use well proven Renault mechanics and technology, they are spacious and comfortable (no, they don't give more back aches than any other car) and even though they're not refined, they are well put together. And they come with factory warranty. I do pay attention to the car industry and to provide an affordable CAR (not a toy) from a "white label" brand, with space, safety, reasonable performance, good mileage and backed by the vast Renault dealership network is a very smart move.

    Me and a friend of mine are thinking of buying two Logans for our business. The Logan looks good, it drives ok, parts are cheap and you can have a Dacia serviced by anyone with a garage and some tools. The interior plastics might not be pretty, but they are durable and easy to keep clean. It's also economical. You don't want a gas guzzler company car. Where I'm from, a lot of taxis are Dacias and as you know... no taxi driver wants an unreliable car.
    I could even get a discount, cause the guy that works at the local Dacia dealership is a friend of mine.

I've just checked on Autotrader...and the cheapest Dacia I can find within 100 miles of me...ANY Dacia... is a Dacia Duster with 13,700 miles on the clock... for £7,500. So not that much lower than the original brand-new asking price. Looking further...I see a few of Sanderos down the south of England (Im in Scotland) for around the £5000+ mark. ....again... not that big a drop. So I wish everyone would stop going on and on about 'getting your money back',., its no worse than something like a Clio, Corsa or whatever.
