Indeed, his “ooooooh, let’s move forward” line around the 12 minute mark sums this bumblenugget up perfectly. The hosts are trying to politely move him on from a point that makes him look a complete plum, but he’s too cretinous to realise they’re doing him a favour.
Trouble is, hes not trolling, hes just as thick as 2 short planks.

MunkyDrag0n a few days ago on Reddit’s /r/DebateAnAtheist. Actually probably a week now. Hit all the same bullshit points: pigs are closely related to humans, stuff about aliens, etc. Eventually he said made the claim that “aboriginies are primitive”. The term “aboriginies” for indigenous Australians is much like calling someone in the US a negro, so even without the primitive bit it’s... not great. I can post links if curious.

People call the show trying out gotchas for stuff they can find out from a Cosmologist, an astrophysicist, a biologist, a zoologist, a geologist....people ending with ist because they have STUDIED these things and are experts in them

If there are two forces acting on an object in opposing directions, for them, that means one of the forces doesn't exist. And that's if there are two forces...anything with any realistic complexity just blows them out of the water.

True. The way he expresses himself is already borderline. I can imagine that his behaviour on forums might be a tad worse, and that would definitely be enough to show him the door.
Not only that but he's clearly and on his own slant and disregarding ALL the fossils showing this particular transition! I've seen the detailed videos out there for everyone to see for it to be shown and better yet explained! I believe all the bones were roughly only 20 million years apart. I may be off on my numbers but I remember being shocked that the transition took so little time, evolutionarily speaking. It's great stuff! 😁🤓👍

Sometimes Matt is unnecessarily mean to callers. I've seen him rip callers' heads off for doing absolutely nothing wrong. He sometimes manages to keep a lid on his anger, and sometimes not. Sometimes Matt's approach is appropriate; sometimes it's excessive.

It's like, I understand the frustration - he's been doing this for over a decade at this point and he still has to explain why it being in the bible doesn't make slavery okay - but he's often really quick to jump on a caller for something minor and pedantic, when his argument would be a lot more convincing if he simply let the caller lay out their entire bad argument before taking it apart.

A lot people's misconceptions about evolution are about their inability to understand that a "species" is simply a selection of physical characteristics within a population within a certain range of time. A rabbit, is not a thing in the natural world, it is just what we call small hoping mammals with long ears.
If you look at the color spectrum, can you point to the one specific spot, that is yellow? Can you define where yellow begins and ends? This is what a species is, an approximation of yellow, at some point it stops being yellow, but the actual edge is hard to define and doesn't really represent anything.

When you sexualize people and make everything a part of a this vs that setup just because gender, you end up starting very irrational points of view where opposite genders are uncomfortable giving basic compliments. Therefore making a weird competition on alpha status that has nothing to do sexism or being a dumb creep. Just saying.

Unfortunately simple biology is beyond some of these folks.
It does but so does the fossil record and observations of evolution.
When I was 4 a farmhand convinced me that brown cows made chocolate milk. I later figured out he didn't know what he was talking about. I was 30.... the point is that Joseph thinks chocolate milk comes from brown cows or he at least wants you to just take him at his word.
What this caller neglects to understand is that mammals (like many other life forms) demonstrate bilateral symmetry. This means we did not need entire skeletons to understand what the species looked like or how they moved. We just need enough pieces from enough individuals to examine their morphological structures. Just a place to start.
also his information is outdated by at least 2-3 decades there has been hundreds of specimens found since.

The only people I hear use the term "Evolutionist" are, creationists. In a disingenuous attempt to somehow discredit science.
What they don't realize is that science is hard to do. The education, the research, the design and execution of repeatable experiments.
They think that watching a few videos with some jabbermouth know-nothing con-man like Ken Ham makes them an expert or puts them in the same league as actual scientists.
Imagine that you didn't know ANYTHING about cars except "they go vroom vroom" and then going to a mechanic's garage and telling the mechanic that he doesn't know what he's doing and that "internal combustionism" is a hoax.

I'm a bit confused. His claim that whales evolved from dog doesn't make any sense.
First dog lived 31000-32000 years ago. Whales evolved over 50 million years ago from land based mammals.
Oh but you see, he specializes in HUMAN evolution.
He though Pakicetus was a dog probably when he saw a poster on whale evolution, because they are "so alike" they may as well be the same thing.
Dogs and Bears come from a common ancestor. The ancestors of bears also became seals and whales. That is if i remember correctly.
@@aubreyhuff46 not quite, whales evolved from a hoofed mammal closer related to pigs, giraffes and hippos. The last common ancestor between the two also puts horses in the same category, as well as humans, i do believe. The ancestral split was far enough back to not be all that remarkable.
@@aubreyhuff46 only seals it was though that whales were also from this group until one fossil was discovered that belonged to artiodactyla had earbones very similar to whales and that's why currently whales and giraffes belong to what is now known cetartiodactyla, don't remember the details, though
I'm with Rudy in that I also reached the conclusion that I was an atheist after one of Matt's shows. I was identifying as a deist for a long time, mostly through negative images I saw of atheists online as well as a defense against my parents who don't really like atheism. And it was through one of his videos just calling out the deist beliefs that made me realize I was just fooling myself.
BUT! Through Matt, I found great shows like Talk Heathen and hosts like you guys! So I'm happy he was a stepping stone for me to enjoy great content like this.

The Theory of Evolution is a scientific description of that fact.

Rudy is a great new addition. Her approach reminds me of Tracy Harris in some ways. Notice how at 24:52 she doesn't bother to say goodbye to the caller. It would appear that he rubbed her up the wrong way.

"I think evolution is silly" - Because you think it happens overnight, and also think 1 thing turns straight into another thing. You can't grasp that evolution is a tree branch, not a ladder.
There's a combination of many things - the ones you mention here being among them. Their biggest hurdle though I think, is that they have a picture of god with his magic wand tattooed on their brain, that keeps them from thinking logically and see things plain and simple. Dogs to Whales? No. Crocoducks? Definitely No.
Evolution is silly and Atheists don't have ethics and morals, because if we _did,_ and evolution was _true,_ then what's the point of believing in god? And that would also make the very first page of the bible, practically from the very first sentence and onward flat out wrong, and leave god in an extremely weak position. So evolution stays silly, and people like him stays willingly ignorant, as he might learn something that might make a little too much sense, and smash his fragile faith in pieces.
Can I suggest to Joseph to take a class or two on mammals, paleontology, or scientific methodology in college?

I can see why Joseph gets banned from forum. He makes generalized pontification about his misunderstanding ideas & about atheist. And I doubt he's an atheist, he's using the same trope fundamentalist Christian use. For example, the claim Christians make that archaeologist ("a skull there, a hip bone here...)" only have a few bones of human ancestors, are purposely ignoring the fact that science have lots of bones, even almost complete skeletons of ancient hominids that can fill a warehouse. "Show me the fossils, I want to see them." So he can later reject them.
And he keeps using the term "evolutionist"... nah. He was a christian troll trying to pass as an atheist.
Plus, about the two magnets put in a capsule, I've heard that claim was made by Boyd Bushman, in his supposedly death-confession. His evidence of aliens & UFOs was showing a picture of a plastic doll, & lots of blurry pictures of so called UFOs, & simply rehashing old UFO claims.

I suspect Joseph gets banned from a lot of places for arguing in bad faith and being aggressively ignorant. I’ve been around such places for 15 years and the people who actually get the boot are the ones who won’t listen, who generalise, and who turn up with a script they refuse to deviate from.
If this is how Joseph conducts himself on the phone, I can only imagine that with the shield of a keyboard, he’s far, far more annoying.

Joseph. Most fossil finds are incomplete. It is extremely rare to have anything close to a full creature find on anything other than imprints (which tend to be smaller creatures).
Like with T-Rex, we got very lucky to have one which is 90% complete, and that was a very rare find.
Dinosaurs are also a very diverse group of creatures that lived for 165 million years, whereas hominids (a much more specific group) have been around for a few million years.
But we also have quite a few good specimens when it comes to human evolution.
When it comes to evolution, genetics is far more useful when it comes to evolution. Things like ERVs and Pseduogenes are excellent supporters of the theory of evolution.

I was surprised the hosts weren’t able to jump in there when he mentioned the fossil record stuff concerning apes to humans… we have a multitude of fossil records of different ape/human transitions. I was beside myself hearing him talk about that stuff like he knew the fact of evolution and lack fossil evidence… like holy moly there’s so many!!!
I can't be on this show as a host. I won't even argue about evolution. I'd just go, you don't think evolution is a fact? And then go down the line about gravity, the universe, germs, other planets, cancer, mutations, thermodynamics, electricity, aerodynamics and wonder why he simply picks evolution to be false/not true.

The principles of logic seem to be a big unknown to Joseph.
Pakicetus is not a dog. It was a member of the Order Artiodactyla, which includes whales, deer, pigs, hippos, and many other ungulates. Dogs belong to a whole different Order called Carnivora. The name “Pakicetus” means Pakistani whale. It looks nothing like a dog and looks more like a long snout pig with sharp teeth and a long tail. The reason it is classified as an early whale is because of the inner ear characteristics that are unique to primitive and modern whales. All known ancestors of whales have large auditory bulla that forms from the Ectotympanic bone only.
John Wood That is very true, but I like to think that most people, whether they have a degree in biology or not, know that there is more to a dog than it has four legs, a tail, howls, and makes weird noises. There is a mouse that checks all those boxes and only grows to be 5 inches long from head to tail. It’s called the grasshopper mouse. I find it sad anyone tries to con other into think they understand evolution when in reality they don’t. The check list used by biologist to identify a species is more in-depth then simply the appearance of the organism.
Thi guy like many theists get a completely incorrect view on how evolution works and is supported. They have a straw man as their knowledge. They often don’t even know it. This guy is one. He has next to no understanding of evolution but is confident he has real knowledge. He is classic Dunning Kruger effect. His confidence is so high because he has so little knowledge he does not know how little knowledge he has.

This guy needs to watch Forrest Valkai. He gives the reason you don’t need a complete fossil record to understand evolution. Because fossils are rare you likely will never uncover everything but you don’t need every puzzle piece to see what the picture is likely to be.
