"Three Sisters" is a dance film based on Chekhov's play, where the choreography delves into the distinct characters of the three sisters, expressing their unique movement qualities as well as the essence of sisterhood, with complicity, recognition, and closeness. The film maintains the premise of the sisters searching for happiness, love, and fulfillment elsewhere.
Throughout the dance, the sisters reflect their longing to escape and pursue different paths, becoming bored, exhausted, and tired. However, the idea of going to Moscow excites them, and they strive to achieve this elusive dream that never materializes.
This film version, produced for a 16:9 screen, is part of the "Three Sisters" project under the visionary direction of Yeri Anarika. It was created as a video installation within the framework of DOCKdigital in November 2022 and presented as a mesmerizing multichannel installation on three immersive screens on December 16.
Yeri Anarika's choreography brilliantly captures the essence of each character, portrayed by talented dancers Jennifer Aput, Glenda Sanchez, and Yeri Anarika herself. The cinematography by Baldemar Botinni and Angel Montes adds a visual dimension that enriches the storytelling.
The original video installation features three vertical monitors, each showcasing a 20-minute choreography inspired by Chekhov's characters. A fourth monitor displays interviews with the performers, bridging their personal biographies with those of the three sisters, creating a deeper connection between art and artist.
As part of the larger "Multichannel installation CinemaDance" project, "Three Sisters" represents an ambitious endeavor to produce dance films that draw inspiration from timeless literary works. CinemaDance aims to engage audiences through immersive experiences, projecting the films on multiple screens to create a captivating and thought-provoking atmosphere. Through this innovative approach, Yeri Anarika's CinemaDance brings new life to classic narratives, reaching audiences with powerful stories through the captivating language of dance and film.
