    My VZ Calais (LY7) is up to 357,000 but mostly country highway Kilometers. In fact, around 95% (or more) is in the country near the Murray river. So the engine has not been under too much load. I've nursed it pretty well too. I expect she will last easily to 400,000 I'm really hoping to 450 or 500K .

    If you randomly drill out the holes then you can get oil entering the system in huge quantities. They need to be drilled to keep the ratios of the hole sizes.

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před rokem +1

      Yeah sorry, 2009 was a memory guess, it might have been more 2012 or something you are very likely correct there. I did know it was updated though, but what I didn't know was the hole sizes are specific this could explain why I have seen high amounts of oil collection on the one I did.
      I recall doing 1.5mm and 2mm on the bottom side (no clue why the guide I was following at the time was different sizes, I assumed because it was not a one way valve some reason) and 3.5mm at the top side. Can you share here what you think is the correct sizes I might try it on my newly rebuilt one, and knowing its a healthy engine, seeing what type of oil collection I get.

    The measurements that they need to drilled out to are very specific. It’s a Tesla valve and works on air flow rather than a spring and ball bearing type thing like PCV’s of old.

  • @FuManchu5ltr
    @FuManchu5ltr Před rokem +5

    You absolutely get less oil in the intake. That’s the entire point of modifying the PCV. It allows the system to work far more efficiently.
    I’ve done 4 and in all four cars, the intake is dry and free of oil even after years.
    The holes were not made bigger in 2009. That update occurred late into VF2. It was done globally on Alloytecs.

      @AllTerrainAction  Před 7 měsíci

      Sorry I’m not sure what you are asking. Air and fuel mix is controlled by the ECM computer it bad PCV shouldn’t really effect air to fuel mix, it would more effect oil burn off and effectiveness of the ventilation to the engine block from worn engines passing pressure back outside the cylinders during operation.

    I need help with the GM HFV6 engine, because I had to change the crankshaft, but there are 2 models where the accessory pulley key changes. I installed the new crankshaft with a different type of key and the car does not start and shows a timing error in the engine. Can anyone who knows this engine well tell me if there are any changes between the 2 crankshaft models that could be causing this problem or could it just be a mounting error at the point of the chains? thanks.

    Does a blocked pcv valve make yellow gunk on the oil cap, my one’s got gunk on the oil cap, it’s not the head gasket so I’m kinda stumped to what it is

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před 7 měsíci

      I'm unfamiliar with this as a symptom. When I removed my timing cover for the first time, I noticed moisture at the top, similar to the yellow substance you mentioned. However, there was no coolant passage issue, and as you mentioned, the head gasket seems fine. Nevertheless, it's certainly an indication that moisture is somehow entering. Despite this, my oil consistently appeared normal, suggesting it might be a byproduct of atmospheric moisture making its way into the engine.

    • @michaeldose2041
      @michaeldose2041 Před 3 měsíci

      The yellow ''gunk'' is water emulsified with oil. If there are no cooling system leaks the water source is going to be condensation from the atmosphere. It could be a sign of poor pvc circulation or a lack of maintenance i.e. too long of an interval in oil changes.

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před rokem +1

      You need to buy the right hand side valve cover and it comes with it, there isn't a known GM number for the PCV valve alone. GM 12641260 will get you the valve cover but drilling is easy, the PCV valve is hollow, it isn't a special one way valve or anything. Just follow it to size specs in this video czcams.com/video/rPyFGEJvwiU/video.html and you will be fine. Cheaper & quicker... if you don't want to drill the one you have, go to the wreak yard find any V6 VZ-VE commodore and pinch the valve and drill that one.

      @@leepung1880 thanks for letting us know, I am part of a community of around 5000 Adventras that run the alloytec and our regular cleaning cycle is 30,000km and never have we found that there is an issue with this. In theory if it was able to develop enough pressure to push it out it means your pcv system is blocked or restricted and not doing it’s intended job. Any pressure at all out do the engine should freely be able to escape via that pass through valve and return on the intake loop if it’s not doing that and somehow pushing it out instead it means you have a blockage and it needs to be fixed. If the PCV gets blocked and pressure builds up you will blow engine seals so a PCV that day is ejected is a better outcome that blowing a engine seal as then you will have oil leakage.

    @1:20 i have a question. Im pretty sure i have the same motor. 05 Cadillac srx 3.6 with the ly7. I searched a few videos, and i heard the valve cover should be changed out, because the pcv valve is "integral" to the valve cover.
    Is that false? I looked up a replacement pcv valve, and i got an odd response, nothing offered by ac delco, gm, or cadillac! Only carquest offers a replacement, and the only part number is some off the wall carquest number.
    I see your video was posted a year ago, but i hope you can recall what i am talking about. Does the valve just pop into a rubber grommet on the valve cover? I dont see any issue if that is true 😂.

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před 3 měsíci +1

      2 weeks late, sorry! Literally the pcv on our LY7 is a hollow cylinder with 2 holes top single hole bottom and isn’t a one way valve like most other engine pcv. No rubber sits in the top of the valve cover and pretty much just stays there no way for it to fall out as with the host clipped to it would be very hard for it to escape out of position. In saying that I can’t see why some other variants of the GM LY7 may have a rubber to help seal/support it. It’s only job is evacuating the positive pressure in the crank case anyway, so as long as it can do that the purpose of it is been served.

    • @sidewayzmike
      @sidewayzmike Před 3 měsíci

      @@AllTerrainAction I caught a random video on here, about the ly7 with oil consumption problems, and the video basically condemns the pcv design for the ly7. And to prove the theory, the guy removed both valve covers and showed a comparison of the "lack" of oil supply between the left bank and right bank. One valve train looked nice and pretty, typical gold "hue" of somebody that changes their oil on time. The other valve train showed significantly darker hue similar to somebody neglecting to change the oil on time.
      That video explained the pcv valve wasn't exactly the part to blame, but the entire valve cover was to be condemned, because their is a pcv chamber inside of the valve cover that gets plugged up. Supposedly you gotta throw a new valve cover at the situation.
      I'm being lazy and cheap, but I liked the theory, and I somewhat believe it to be true.

      I agreed with this - if you just randomly drill a huge hole in it, but if you drill a very specific size on top and bottom it actually appears to be helping. Assuming everything is clear. I checked my intake after 8,000km just a few days ago and it’s dry as a bone and I think overall the car is behaving quite good.
